Hello, nice pond. My dad used to dig/build ponds back in the 1950's and 60's. When he finished the pond, he would back a manure spreader up to the pond and put a load of manure into the new pond. That would settle all the clay to the bottom and the manure also would start the life cycles in the pond. Just like magic, a cloudy pond would clear up. Those ponds were fun to fish in as I was a kid. Folks would let me fish them because they knew my Dad. Nice memory. George.

8:14 Definitely a Banded Watersnake, Nerodia fasciata. At this time stamp you can see the eye stripe is thinner at the nose and curves down and gets thicker towards the cheek. They are fantastic mimics of the Cottonmouth but not quite good enough---a Cottonmouth eyestripe is straighter from nose to cheek, and more uniform thickness. There is a ton of variability in body striping but usually a Cottonmouth has thinner dark bands and wider light ones, and the Banded Watersnake is usually opposite, like we have here. Also, while in an attempt to mimic the Cottonmouth the Banded Watersnake does have a wider face, it is still just not wide enough or the right shape.

as a person in the pool business you don’t want to rely on those water tests from the big box pool stores, trust me the machine that’s tests your water is specifically designed to have something out of range each and every week, id recommend buying an at homes test kit from the brand Taylor, it’s pricey but also dead accurate!

I almost couldn't believe how much clearer the pond got as the video went on it literally cleared up right before our eyes. As for pond videos there aren't too many on here that I actually follow because I was fortunate enough to see BamaBass as one of my first if not *the first before seeing anything else and there's other good pond videos on here but this is where it's at hands down. 😎 Other pond videos as in Greg the Pond Guy & Ed the Pond Professor that's excluding them cuz I didn't start seeing them as much till I saw um in this. Prior to that I'd only heard of them. But as for other pond videos not too many unless it's a fishing video or new lure samples. This the only one where you see it being customized and asked by the host what he should name the fish animals etc. And it's that uniqueness getting all the views and viewers. 😎

That's gonna be a productive pond for sure. We have a 7lb-plus largemouth in our Central Florida pond. Caught him twice and he is hard to fool now but I see him nailing bluegills and such. There is also a huge channel cat or two. Together they keep the blue tilapia population down, but there are some 4 pounders that will take a fly. Geez, these fish have become pets.

3 things. Geese love soybeans. Really anything. Limestone & fertilizer around the TURF areas around your pond works great too. Area for the middle island to grow seed- you should look into Tall Fecuse Seed. TFS. Best seed there is, in my opinion. Scratch it up with a hard rake really good throw the seed down, then get some 10-10-15 black cow and throw on top. It will be fully green and healthy within a month..

I used a five gallon bucket and set the tree in the bucket, poured cement around the base in the bucket, added a gallon jug to the top with copper wire real close to the tree. Took this to the pond and dropped it in. The tree stood up and within a week was full of bait fish and the bass were around the tree, waiting on a meal. Great video as always, I did not get a good look at the snake but it did look like a banded water snake. I was wondering if you got the electric, water and septic all connected and going for the cabin? Also a couple of suggestions, #1 The lumber you have from the oak tree would make a nice deck on the lake side of the cabin or a wrap around porch. But beware, piles of stacked lumber are great places for snakes! #2 Have you considered building a barn or a pole barn to get the tractor and side by side and other equipment out of the weather? And third, a doghouse to cover the well plumbing to prevent sun damage or freezing. I love watching your videos, keep up the good work. Roll Tide!

I'm not criticising, just suggesting an alternative strategy but would you not rather a natural planted look with crystal clear water? 5 acres is more than big enough to get a sustainable balanced ecosystem. The key is high (native) species diversity so tnat interspecific competition prevents any species becoming overabundant. It also saves on feeding and fertiliser, which are you paying to do work that nature does for free with a few years of ecological succession once you add the keystone species. I'm also wondering if aiming for artificially maximised numbers of fish will limit the maximum size of the fish but I'm not sure about that at all, it's just a question that occurs to me.

Been wondering the exact same thing, these biologists of his don't seem to be very ecologically minded. The only reason I could see behind not taking a natural approach is perhaps the depth of his pond? Not sure how deep it is but usually the depth of ponds and lakes keeps the vegetation from spreading throughout, so maybe this is why they have advised him against it?

@@aaronohara34 Yeah I wondered that too after I asked. You could be right. I'd be interested to know. I wonder are there any examples around.

Still think a big bog filter and big waterfall would be a good idea on top of what you doing and a really big waterfall would look good too and would help with aeration

Holy hell and they are all absolute stud drakes you lucky bugger ! Blue wings teal are still puddle ducks but a lot more mobile. Their normally habitat is low water marshes with plant of shallow vegetation! This is so damn cool

Great video for proper lime & fertilizer applications. I put out 60 gallons of liquid 10-34-0 fertilizer, 10:1 ratio, March - September. I will lime again in November this year. I last applied lime in November of 2020. MSU Pond Management Program through our local county Extension Service Office here in Mississippi. 1 Pond is 100 years old & the other one is 40 years old. Hoping to add Titan Bass genetics soon. 🍺🎣
