I thought by the video he was making a bbq pit like old school style. 1st, that is not a bbq and its just a flavorless gas grill on a homemade outdoor counter..

Comments: 0:20 I've got $0.02 that says those flat pavers that appear to have been used to extend the border of that poured slab are at some risk of gradually settling under that load after several freeze-thaw cycles (read: several years), causing the masonry structure built atop them to crack. AFAIK, the recommended way to extend a poured slab for a load bearing structure is with a poured footing - preferrably with some lateral corrosion resistant rebar drilled into the existing slab to help further reinforce against settling. As for the granite slab, I'd have gone with a thicker slab, with a shorter lip (less likely to break), and more importantly with "bull nosed" top edges instead of sharp square edges that can hurt you if you jostle or fall against them. 0:45 Painting outdoor cinderblock is not the best choice, even with a good primer. I'd probably have gone with professionally installed all weather tile or low glare flashing, or even a Trax veneer. A+ for enthusiasm, C+ for design. Just my personal opinion. All that being said, I wish I had the funds to build an outdoor island like that. More specifically a combined grill/tandoor setup, plus a dedicated fridge/locker in my garage for charcuterie and dry aging.

Loved the video. Possible to get dimensions details of plan ? Wanna to a DIY BBQ as a beginner ...
@CysCorner
@CysCorner 4 жыл бұрын
It was cinder block which are 8x8x16 inches so the dimensions are approx. 64x 32x 32 inches. The granite was approx 36 x72 inches. We have moved from there now. If you have anymore questions please email us. undeniablycy@gmail.com :) Good luck!!!

@MrChristopoop 6 жыл бұрын
Did not see if this was asked already, but how sturdy is the granite at that thickness? Wife and I are completing a patio by our pool, I saw a chance to make a column to hold up a piece granite for a prep area next to pizza oven, she said why not build two wide columns and place a granite counter over as a permanent outdoor table? The material he used to “glue” it to the block, is that standard for masonry and granite together? Thanks for any information.

When I had granite installed in my kitchen and three bathrooms they always had a deck to put the granite on. A deck is a thick piece of plywood that supports the granite. IF you do not support it then it can break. Why spend all that money on granite IF the application makes it weak?

Ah, those regional variations will get ya, right? We'd call that a grill here in Georgia. Other places they call it a BBQ, something that here we'd call a pit for real bbq. Its all just differences. One thing is constant though, each of these will cook some MEAT!
