Hi guys, coming back to this video after we'd intended to build a garden room in a very similar style. We're getting some people saying that only single skin of blocks that the walls wouldn't stand up to the wind, without adding pillars. Wondered if you guys had any thoughts on this / and advice you can give from a structural point of view. Thanks!

I'm loving this so much. I wish I could build one in my NY backyard. Too many laws here (nosey parkers)😂. Continue with your great content. By the way, that too you used to make stucko effect on the exterior, whats the name, and could I purchase it from Amazon or other international place of sales? Thank you.

Respect! I have found that sieving you paint is a massive help on trade paints. Watched you pick so many snotters off the walls I could feel the frustration. You have a full set of skills there. Want to move into building from property maintenance. I would say my running electrics are weakness, everything else I think I could cover. Are you working from plans?

Good idea. I had a plan in my head lol. Its pretty much my design, The current one we are building had some basic plans provided by the client

Do you ever need a building inspection on any of the elements? How much is something like this. Labour and materials have to be a healthy sum...

@@deathbyproxy2 not usually. As long as you stay within certain guidelines you won’t need to. Check out this link with more information on the rules www.planningportal.co.uk/info/200130/common_projects/43/outbuildings/2

Hi by using just single block, will that still keeo tje building damp proof and insulated. Even if extra measures are taken
@darrenthebuilder
@darrenthebuilder 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Naz, yes it will. As long as you waterproof the exterior either by using cladding or a waterproof render like KRend. Also it’s a good idea to use a vapour barrier (the green plastic) between the insulation and plasterboard.

What is the size for this outbuilding and is render the best option saving money wise to use? Many thanks
@darrenthebuilder
@darrenthebuilder 2 жыл бұрын
I think this was around 6 x 3. Render is in my opinion the better option particularly a silicone type render like KRend / Weber. But it’s not cheap. You can also do sand and cement render but then you have to paint / seal it and maintain it. Other option is to use cladding which again will need upkeep. Last option is to build in brick but that’s also costly in material and labour.

@@darrenthebuilder I'm hoping with planning permission I can do 7m by 4.5m In my front garden most likely in render

@darrenthebuilder
@darrenthebuilder 3 жыл бұрын
@@skaterguy52 no problem at all lol. That’s basically the reason. It’s not so common to do double skin brick unless it’s an actual extension would would end up costing a lot more. This is my habitable therefore you can make it more simple.
@skaterguy52
@skaterguy52 3 жыл бұрын
@@darrenthebuilder I’m a joiner myself and in Scotland we don’t usually build double skin walls with either brick or block it’s usually a timber inner wall with osb and breather membrane with a 50Mm cavity between the block/brick and the timber inner leaf
@darrenthebuilder
@darrenthebuilder 3 жыл бұрын
Interesting, I didn’t know that. So basically similar to what we did? I know they do that a lot in the USA. Infact a lot of flats in London are being done like that now. Usually the cavity it’s 100mm though.
