Reggie and I build a Cafe Racer for under $1,000 using a non running $400 1981 Honda CB750 and some cheap parts from eBay and Amazon
If you want to check out Reggie's KZfaq channel he can be found at:
/ @chokeroll
He is currently traveling with Megadeth on tour teaching BJJ and has some great content.

Wasn't expecting the Brazilian flag, I'm glad to see hehe, as you know if you mention or show anything related to Brazil you summon Brazilians from all over the globe to show their appreciation, so here I am.

A nice simple build, sometimes those are the best kind. No fancy moonshot gimmicks, it runs and looks the way the owner wanted it to so that's a job well done. The exhaust hack (literally) was a good money-saving trick, that and adapting the throttle ferrule to work with the carb rather than going out and finding another one.
@bakters
@bakters 2 жыл бұрын
"adapting the throttle ferrule" Doing it "right" would cost even less work. You heat the end barrel up, and the cable will pull out. Push the next one in, fray the ends out so they would "hook" and solder it all shut. That's how we used to do it, and I was told that factories did it that way too. His hack might be fine for the throttle, or it might pull out, or the weakened barrel might break. The frayed ends soldered in was good for clutch cables. On soviet boxer bikes. Cables broke all the time, the barrels used to stay put.

M'self, I probably would have punked out and just bought a custom-length cable, maybe a couple other bits. Naturally there are details I'd have done differently, but hey, that's half the fun of watching build videos, now ain't it? ;)

When I saw the title I expected a simple clean and rebuild montage - instead it was a full-custom build. Great video! Also this might be $1000 to someone with the obvious skills and equipment like you (and maybe Reggie who has you as a friend ;) ) but for a noob like me with a basic toolkit for motorcycle maintenance, this might be thousands of dollars paid to a custom shop in parts and labor. But I understand the KZfaq algorithm is tough to work with - appreciate the entertaining content!

To be fair, it's not a tutorial on how to build it for under 1k. It's him explaining his actual situation/build/budget. The title is truthful and really nothing to do with the youtube algorithm. Now if he added "how to" then I'd agree it's a bit click baity haha.

I’ve not seen a single good 1980ish Honda like that modified to a café racer yet until now. That’s by far the best one. I bought a 1980 Gold Wing that I’d planned to do the same. I realized I just didn’t have time and gave it to friend. It needed the engine rebuilt or replaced. Thx for sharing. Great job!

Rustoleum primer and Krylon paint: good choice, my personal favorite as well. To those who have never tried painting but are tempted to, jump in and go for it. You can get surprisingly good paint jobs outta spray cans. If you, like me, were previously into building car models, you're well ahead of the game. ...Loved the exhaust solution with the fiberglass, sounds great. Hey, that's a good kid you have there. (And a right proper caff racer too! Kudos.)

Very cool man. I feel like everyone should have to ride and learn on one of these old bikes. They are so raw and there's no experience like riding an old bike. I started on a mini bike at 4 years old, then by 5 I was on a YZ80. Then I had a ton of dirt bikes. My first on road bike was a 1973 CB350, it was my baby and I did an old school UNI racing theme on it, fun bike. Then I started racing full fairing 250cc street bikes which was a blast. The rest is history. Ive owned a bit of everything, but I've always kept Hondas in the stable. Im actually waiting for powder coat on a project im finishing now. I built a chopper/bar hopper on air ride, out of a 2008 honda vt750 shadow. Sorry to ramble, very cool bike and I love what you've done with it.

Nice job done there ;) I used to have the cb 750 F1 super sport which i think was the engine model before what you have. The bike i really enjoyed untill i threw the chain off at over 100 mph around at left hand curve and wrapped the chain guard around my ankle. Luckily the chain never touched me on the way out the back. I walked back down the highway and picked up my chain. When i eventually stripped the motor down i found i had damaged the crank cases behind the drive sprocket and snapped the cam in half at the centre beside the drive sprocket. I eventually got her rebuilt and on the road again, i liked that bike so had to rebuild her :) So when i threw the chain off i guess i over reved the motor and snapped the cam.........ohh well, it could have been much worse if the rear wheel had locked up at the speed i was doing around a slight left bend. Lucky me ;). Austin, on my last build i done similar work as you on a FZ1000 When i got the the pipe i stuffed wire wool in it and held it in with a small roll of wire i beat down the pipe with a wooden hammer shaft LoL and it worked great for back pressure and sound deadening ;)
