How did you get the bottom bar between the two end pieces to connect? I can only find it in 10ft lengths so it would seem you have a connector of some sort on two pieces to get it the length of the car.

Mine is only one length. Actually it’s cut down believe it or not. They do make connectors that slide inside the channel that you can bolt together. But what I would do is just use short pieces of unistrut and bolt them back to back with 4 bolts. Same solution both ways.

good idea, okay for most jobs, possibly double up if working on a heavier bodyshell.

Exactly. Just use your judgement. No Mack trucks up on this thing!

Thanks for showing us your rotisserie. For others, keep in mind that a Triumph Spitfire body is very light (about 300 pounds) and very short (because the entire front end comes off in one piece.) Every commercial rotisserie is overkill, but this simple one won’t be appropriate for a Camaro!

I’ve thought about your comment for awhile. And though my exact rotisserie wouldn’t fit a Camaro, I think the overall idea could be adapted accordingly. Maybe some additional supports on the uprights or even doubling up on the uprights. The length between could just be extended by scabbing together another appropriate sized piece of unistrut. This wasn’t meant to be a one size fits all, but an example of how this can be made easily without having to really over think it. Kind of like you said, “the commercial ones are overkill”.

What gauge are the unistrut rails. And what width, length and height are they. Thanks PS. Who sells them ?
@Upspitscreek
@Upspitscreek 4 ай бұрын
It’s 12 gauge, 1-5/8 square, 10’ lengths, and any of the big home improvement stores carry it. If you’re elsewhere in the world, electrical supply places will definitely have it. The stores also carry shorter lengths but it costs you more. There’s also a shorter height version but it’s not all that much cheaper. Hope this helps!

How did you suspend the body in order to mount it to the rotisserie? Great video for us. Thanks
@Upspitscreek

I have an electric hoist on a length of unistrut mounted to the ceiling. I used straps to lift the body off the chassis. I had a picture from an old service manual that shows suspending it from the bonnet stays and what looked like the seatbelt mounts but it wouldn’t level out that way so I moved the rear straps back to the bumper supports and that worked just fine. I mounted the rear to the rotisserie first and then used the hoist to bump it up or down to get everything level. I’m a one man show so I’ve got to always figure out how to be able to do it all without any other help.

@@Upspitscreek Thanks for the explanation. I guess most of us VW'rs are (or have to be) one man shows.
