Building a Computer inside a 1986 Mac

I want to go back to the days when Apple was cool. When Steve Jobs was young and rebellious, they were throwing hammers through everyone and every thing.
The Apple Macintosh is a classic. So I built a new computer in it. Is it cool? No. But it's mine. So lay off, buster. Buddy. pal.
If I want to put a motherboard, power supply, ssd hard drive and some ram in there, who's gonna stop me? The man? No sir E.

a DIY retro tech makeover courtesy of scott daly and an apple macintosh plus 1 megabyte and a complete lack of any electronics skill or understanding.
If you want to take apart an old computer, probably don't. it seems dangerous.

What I like the most about this video is that it's assembled quite literally how 99% of people would do it, even if it's super jank. That's something you don't see in large tech channels!

I managed to do this to an apple 2e without having to touch a single one of it's original parts. If the PSU worked, I could reassemble it into a fully fonctionnal apple 2e within an hour or two.

I love this. I hate this. I love the abandon to which you just threw it together. You have to be young enough to not have any nostalgia / love / reverence for the compact mac design to just haphazardly push things into it and rip holes into the case to make the innards fit. I hate the lack of planning that resulted in the case being hacked up and the display being on an angle that would make me cringe every time I looked at it. BUT. Having seen many of these retrofits it probably is the most useful version as it I have seen.

Nice job man! Family friend of ours passed away and his widow wife has been selling off his stuff cause she's an older lady and isn't tech savvy. He was splicer and would take things like old Atari console and repurpose the shell etc. Really smart guy he was. He had one of these Mac Plus 1 from 1986 and she still has it. I asked her if can I have it because I literally was thinking to try this. She's going to offer it to me so I can use it for whatever. I was wondering, why didn't you try installing a mini-PC Micro-ATX style board? That would have I imagine saved you a ton of space and from there been able to get things in with very minimal cutting? Just a thought. I will try this!

So, I'm almost done with my project as well... I'm turning a Macintosh Se in to a Crazy Gaming PC I have it up and running, I'm just waiting for the monitor to arrive. You should see it It looks dupe Already... I took a different approach I have a 12 Core AMD 3900x CPU, RTX 2070 Supper GPU, 32gb Ram, 1TB NVME ssd and of course RGB's everywhere I also have Liquid AIO installed on it too

Cool project! Personnally, I'm almost done with an apple IIe outfited with a core i3 9100, 8GB of (single channel T_T) ram, vega 56 and 1TB SSD. I've even managed to install macOS big sur on there. The low end processor and crappy ram config was because I wanted to save some money since I already have a decent computer, the vega 56 was what macOS compatible card I had on hand from my main PC. Also, I got the 9100 and not the 9100f because the motherboard I used still has a VGA output so I can use the iGPU to drive a CRT, not 100% accurate since I can't use the composite monitor from the apple 2 but I think it's still pretty cool. (unfortunately my CRT died a few months ago so I will have to find another one to test this.)

When he started ripping up the motherboard of that classic computer, I literally felt my face start to twitch uncontrollably. By the time he was hacking up the case, I was just shaking my head in disbelief. Sorry kiddos, an OG Mac user from way, way, back in the day. It's just hard to see you guys "reusing" stuff like that... And my eyes twitched uncontrollably one last time when I realized that to add insult to injury, he was running WINDOWS on it. ----sad mac face---
