At Purpose Built Moto, we take on new challenges to push our skills further. In this video, Tom shares his first experience with hydroforming to build a custom exhaust system for a 2008 Ducati GT1000. From fabricating the headers to hand shaping the mufflers, you'll see the entire process unfold.
Hydroforming, a technique using high-pressure water to shape metal, allowed us to create complex shapes and contours for the exhaust. Despite a few challenges, we learned a lot and achieved a unique design that enhances the bike's performance and appearance.
In this video, you'll see:
- Fabricating a 2-into-1-into-2 exhaust system
- Using hydroforming for creating custom mufflers
- Ensuring strong welds with back purge TIG welding
- Hand shaping and finishing techniques for a seamless look
- Final installation on the Ducati GT1000
