Hey Matt thanks for the videos. I built for a living for quite a few years then took a decade plus hiatus and am now full time again. Your videos have been a thorough reintroduction and are much appreciated. I’m wondering what the name of the tool/ jig is you use for bolt marking your treated footers? Being a bit older than the last time I built I’m all for any tools and tricks that keep me off my knees, being hunched over, or any other stooped uncomfortable positions. Thanks again!

Perhaps building codes are different in California, but shouldn't there be an insulator between the concrete foundation and the plating? Everything I've always been taught says that wood should never directly touch concrete. Over time the wood will wick moisture out of the concrete and cause the foundation to crumble and the wood to rot and/or mold.

5:33 If you watch closely you can see when Matt hits his boot on that metal bar how he relaxes his ankle and doesn't react. This is super important. When you are on a job site just relax. When you freak out and you get all nervous and twitchy, that's when accidents are more likely to happen. Be smart, be safe.

Question. It seems that all these homes I see you frame out, do not have any basements. Is this because of earthquake policy? Hence why the foundations I’ve seen in the videos are simply a slab? Forgive me, I live in NYC, so most foundations here have a basement and even a sub basement sometimes as well. Thanks. Btw your videos are amazing. Framing is a small part of my work, but mostly metal studs and non load bearing walls interior renovations but love learning from you videos. Knowledge is power

For bottom plate, we keep all plate lengths 4'+, try to break next to an anchor bolt, as you have to have anchor bolts on both sides of plate break (we'll use TITEN's on the side missing bolt). On big sections, break them in a door way, as the doorway bottom plate will cut out after framing is done. For top plate, we always break the first plate on a stud layout [16" O.C.] and second plate is never within 4' of intersecting walls, or 4' of first plate break.
