How To Build a Plywood Conference Table, or a dining table.

On this episode I build a large shared desk / conference table out of plywood. This is going to go in my friend's store's office where 4 people will share it. It has built in cable management for computers and accessories. And if you don't need a conference table, it could easily be used as a dining table with a few little changes.

Thanks for this video! I'm a youth minister at a mobile church. I've been dreaming up what our conference table in our offices will look like once we build a building. This is very close to what I've been thinking, but yours hasa few additions I'll probably utilize. Namely magnets. But my vision had OSB for the strip down the middle. Love it!

@@Foureyes.Furniture I dunno if there is a rift or not, just that I generally hate plywood so it's nice to see someone doing something interesting with it that isn't just same old Danish modern thing. Thank you for showing methods without the CNC. I feel like lots of maker youtubers just casually use the CNC without consideration for how inaccessible they are for amateurs. Even if they are more widely available these days, it's a luxury most wouldn't have the money or space to have.

Thanks! Yeah, I think it's one of those tools where it's either the last thing you get (because you have everything else already) - or it's the first thing you get, because you're going to go down a different road, avoiding traditional tools. I think that is slowly changing and they will become even more commonplace. But I still like the idea of showing both methods. Especially to avoid the "let's see if you can do it without a CNC" comment :)

I tried to create large templates (multiple pages) for a bed project and found that even with a good program to generate the patterns there was still a problem with aligning everything perfectly. I found that directly creating a pattern on the pattern material was much better, especially for larger pieces. If I had a large CNC machine I would have done it that way.

Another great design. And almost all plywood 😁 the pacing seemed off for me on this one. Perhaps I’ve grown too fond of the puns and didn’t get my fill. It just seemed a bit slow to me. Still a huge fan and appreciate all the videos. Electronics Trough! 👌😜

Thanks Josh...I thought this one was actually paced (relatively fast) compared to some of the recent ones. There was just a lot to get through. It was light on puns though - I'm ashamed :P

That looks like Baltic Birch Ply. Some of you're more recent videos you've seemed to be using something else. Cost wise I'm sure however, what plus do you use now?

Do you offer plans for purchase at all? I would love to make this for my office, but dont feel confident on creating my own leg patterns. But having the measurements would make this feel much more doable.

Actually, if you keep your hand on the opposite side of the router bit, there’s not much that can go wrong, because you always have the workpiece between your hand and the bit. Even if your hand slips, it will only ever touch the bearing.

Good point. It does get kind of heavy upside down though. Good workout I guess :)

Great build loved the design. Have you ever thought about spray finish, especially with the larger pieces you design.

Thank you. Yeah I've definitely thought about it. Just haven't gone about actually getting anything set up and going though.

The table saw, the sander, and the domino all cost more than an inexpensive CNC machine. Things have changed, they are an accessible tool.

Agree that they have become way more accessible...but it's still one of those tools that people tend to get later on in the process - so I think it's nice to show multiple ways to make something when possible

Love the way this came out, nice work Chris. For those without a Domino, do you think biscuits would be strong enough to hold the two leg parts together?

you could do it from one piece, so you don't need a domino

What subscape said, or you could use pocket screws. Bottom line, there would be a number of ways to make it plenty strong :)
