A couple tips on installing corrugated metal siding. You should lap the ‘bumps’ by two, not one. Use a pre-cut pine scalloped stiffener (they sell them) under your line of screws and finally use longer gasketed screws and enter the screw at the Top of the ‘bump’ not the valley and you have less leaks. Cheers🎉

Your metal should've been horizontal to be leak proof. Look at any military Quonset structure.

I watched your 1st day out of the house and living in your truck and I loved it. So now i've started with your 1st video to catch up. Proud of you, wish you luck and happiness and may God take care of you while you travel. Enjoy all that you do and do it all. Life is short and your dream to live in your truck and travel is a wonderful idea.

J 0 seconds ago When I was your age, I had my face glued to the screen of a gaming console. I didn't learn this kind of building talent until I became a home owner (10 years ago). We have 3 boys (in grade school). It's been a dream of mine to help them with project like this, one day. Good for you, young man. might be a good idea to put some plastic or rubber feet under the bottom to keep the wood off the bed floor , this helps against the wood rotting fron sitting in a puddle it build like a woodframe house meaning its going to be pretty heavy to lug around on the back of the truck , take a look at the size of wood they use on full size rv's its about a quarter that and they get the rigidity out of the outer shell and the cabinets inside

My camper was 1100lbs empty but I bought a 2017 Cache Slide in truck camper built in Alaska. I don't even have a roof fan (intake or exhaust) but I do have an AC/Heater on top that runs off 120V and my Honda 2000 will run it.

looks very heavy, I am not knocking your build but I would have looked towards European designs of vehicles using modular panels, I personally would have gone for quarter-inch ply insulation sandwiched between another piece of quarter-inch ply glued screwed together to make panels with your ideas on how to build you would have one strong lightweight camper. Keep up your great work to inspire others.

I'm surprised you used that fiberglass / plastic corrugated roofing material. Seems really vulnerable to breakage by road debris, hail, etc. How is it holding up? How did the weight of the camper balance out with your max cargo weight of the vehicle? 1480 was before you did the interior. What was the max cargo capacity of the truck?

How much more weight is added to your van, I would worry about the ongoing weight use on the axel, and how much less mileage would you get do you know, as my son is so interested in doing the same thing, he doesn't see the other issues that can be involved.

Hey brother I was wondering if you could go into details like how much did it cost you more or less because I have a Ford ranger that I would like to put a little camper in the back but money is so tight that I don’t even know how to start I saw how you saw it did the side framing and that’s why I was holding me up because I didn’t know how that overlap lip was gonna hold onto all that weight🙏🏻Once I build mine I will send you a video because I’ve been watching this video of over 30 times and I would like to do my framing like you did yours God bless you thank you
@andrewryanpov

I can definitely try to put that in a video here soon, but overall it cost me a little under $3k with everything. I made a few mistakes though, mainly buying a ton of caulk and flex seal, so you could definitely get away with something smaller for probably about $2000-$2500. Lumber isn’t as pricey as it was awhile back! (Around me at least) so awesome though! I’m glad it’s been helpful! Can’t wait to see what you come up with!

@@andrewryanpov 2 1/2 feet in ea side ? After I’m done I’ll do a end product because I’m not good with videos and only have a cell phone. No computer.. thus is why this has to come out right 🙏🏻 I don’t have any other one of those fancy accounts I only have email and text is there other ways to contact you to send you the progress I don’t know I’m gonna need help so I really appreciate it🙏🏻

@@eastcoastnews9529 yes, on each side. But you could definitely get away with less than that! It’s more what you prefer for extra space and what you think would work for the size of vehicle you have!

That’s a 1/2ton(1000lb) truck,your dry weight is 1500,that’s even before you added more stuff to the build,and I’m not even talking making it move in ready. I’d keep an eye on suspension stuff and most definitely brakes. Either way,looks good. Good luck man. I’m about to sell my 1500 Sierra for a 3/4 for weight reasons for my DIY camper

For sure. I appreciate the tip! I’ll definitely be keeping an eye on everything. If I could go back I would use smaller board for sure 😅 thanks though! Good luck with your build!

Yah, I was thinking the same thing. This camper would be way too heavy for my Toyota pickup. Wondering the best way to build a super light, but strong camper.

@@ShikokuFoodForest a lot of people have recommended aluminum studs, but I wasn’t able to find the right materials in my area to do it that way. 2x3’s would most likely work pretty well though!

@@andrewryanpov Hi Andrew. I’m Canadian living in Japan, but I’d like to build my own camper when I return to Canada 🇨🇦. Are aluminum studs much lighter? I imagine with aluminum, because it is much stronger, likely much smaller square tubing could be used. I’m just guessing. Would you need to weld it together or could it be fastened together with screws or bolts? I expect the aluminum would be much more expensive than wood though. Hey, are you living in your camper now?

@andrewryanpov Жыл бұрын
@@ShikokuFoodForest to be honest I didn’t do a ton of research on how to construct it with aluminum, since I didn’t have the materials for that. But I’m assuming you could use screws, maybe with welding as well. But I haven’t tried it out so I’m not entirely sure! I move full time into my camper at the end of April, but I’ve been staying in it and going on some trips quite a bit lately! I’m loving it 😁

... ya might want to remake your door, to open as one door, and as two door latched together on the inside [part of it opening above the closed tailgate] [or even maybe an egress door, in the door itself, so ya could possible squeeze out]... LOL, IF i was a mean person camping, THEN i "might" flip your tailgate up, while you are inside. [egress exit??] ...the window is a long way down.

Thanks for the tip! I can fit out the window super easily but I might not want to be forced to do that, so I agree! 😄

It’s an F-150, but according to google with the towing/hauling capability it’s comparable to the Ram 2500! Hope you can build an awesome rig! Thanks for watching!

What’s the bed size? I have damn near the exact same truck but the supercrew version with a smaller bed that 5.5. What’s the bed length on your f150?
