in this ramble-tron special, we modify our standard turbo log headed into a fully divided twin scroll set up. Please let me know if you'd like to see more automotive fabrication content in the comments below.

The idea of twin scroll is to avoid the back pressure from a newly opened exhaust valve blowing back into an already open valve. It allows greater boost (= exhaust back pressure) without reverse flow. The arrangement you have used may well have worsened the issue. Generally you'd group cylinders 1 and 4 together in one scroll, 2 and 3 in the other. For a V8, it's hardly going to make any difference to put one bank in each scroll. Looks good though.

Exactly, this header looks nice but has no benefit for a twin or even a single scroll turbo....
@bbmas1930
@bbmas1930 3 жыл бұрын
also even if the firing orders had been correct, the fact that they were made with unequl length primaries would have had the exhaust pulses arriving all over each other at each volute. Having the firing orders array + unequal length primaries means that this is just a divided flange on a non twin scroll manifold. This setup isnt going to run well. Its a poor single scroll manifold design that incorrectly feeds a twin scroll turbo.

Nice fab work. Curious how it will work out performance as the cylinders aren’t really split for a true twin scroll, but you may still see some benefits. Great use of the 3D printer. Work smart not hard! I havnt used a 3d printer yet. But would it not be easy to make your template slightly larger a then the pipe diameter for proper tracing? Another idea I just had was to make your template, use it to set your vice/jig in a chop saw and giver!
@FSP3

Great stuff here!! Even if I'm not sure that the twin scroll thing has any theoretical benefit in this application, it's fun to watch you guys try it out! One question about CAD, could the program have just flattened that section into a plane for cutting out of paper instead of leaving it in 3D printing format? If so I need to see if I could manage some simple stuff on that program.
@FSP3
@FSP3 4 жыл бұрын
Hammerhaus Kennel yes, it’s definitely doable. I have not ever tried it with this program, but i have done it with ease in similar software. However, the biggest struggle is getting the printer to print it at the perfect scale

Don't you have to split 2 cylinders on each side for a true twin scroll with the LS firing order?
@afroaliens
@afroaliens 4 жыл бұрын
I would not call this twin scroll divided... the twin scroll part is to even out the exhaust pulses, and you need to run the exhaust divided into the flange. (cyl 1-3 and 2-4 for a 4cyl) this is more like divided banks... not sure how this evens out, and I am afraid that the exhaust will be restricted in that manifold.. but, hopefully we get some dyno papers proving me wrong!
@CamiloMartinezAldaya
@CamiloMartinezAldaya 4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, with any crossplane v8, but you would need a twin turbo setup for that, i still think this will be better than a single scroll for both banks.

I am very impressed with the finished product. I don't want to sound stupid but the end port looked like it was choked down compared to the rest so my question is would that cause a problem with ether choking that cylinder or excessive heat at that point. I just wanted to know it that was a concern or not. I thought it was air in and air out as easy as could be for more power. But if you thought it out or it just doesn't matter with a turbo?
@FSP3
@FSP3 4 жыл бұрын
The other 3 cylinders should help push the exhaust in the correct direction, and the turbine will help pull to some extent as well. I've seen far worse make good power, so I don't think its anything to stress over.
@EDWARDTREVEY
@EDWARDTREVEY 4 жыл бұрын
@@FSP3 Good to know like I thought you guy know way more than I do. I was thinking that the turbo would help push the exhaust out and the twin scroll can use it way more efficiently, and it does look very cool. So I hope I didn't hurt any feeling with my question just wondering. I did want to say the finished product is killer nice job on filling there you can even tell. SO did you MIG or TIG the sides I didn't hear if you said?
