The second in the series for this one. We have an existing base of 3.6 x 3.6, but require a 4x4 base. We have extended it and put a DPM down, and off we go!

Great stuff always a joy to watch. I bought one of your build packets in the summer and am hoping to start this spring. If the pad was to big would you fold the dpm and pin it to the frame to stop water ingress ?

No link to buy the tickets? Will def get some to support a great cause. Your videos inspired me to build my golf sim / cinema room using your technique although my roof is very different as it is a vaulted roof. (The glulam beam was massive and expensive). Will drop a link off the full Build when I’m finished so you can see. Keep the vids coming I really enjoy them mate 👍

Also mate have you tried the bosch 2013awp recip blades for cutting your kingspan. About £25 I pop but they last months and will speed up your insulating by at least half the time.

Is it ok the the dpm? Does it not compromise the membrane?
@benlann947 ай бұрын
Do you need to do anything to maintain the integrity of the dpm when you drill through it to fix the timbers?

Hi, been watching loads of your videos and they are really useful. if I have an uninsulated concrete slab that's much bigger than the garden room I'm planning to build can I still use this method? Or do I need to raise the timbers slightly off the floor for ventilation concerned of any run off water impacted the timber in the long run. Secondly did you trim the dpm. Sheet flush to the perimeter or pin the to the inside/outside of the timber frame? Any advice would be appreciated

hi liam, is it a problem if my concrete base is a tad bigger than the shed thing i plan on building.

Hi Liam, great channel! I have an existing concrete base, not insulated. Can I build off this using your approach here? Membrane then bolt the base to the concrete slab and insulate? Can the insulation site directly on the membrane? Thank you
@thegardenroomguru2 жыл бұрын
Yes mate, that’s exactly what we did here
@handle11962 жыл бұрын
Would you have still ran the timber base frame around the concrete base on the ground rods if the concrete had visquine installed under it or was this method to correct an error?
@thegardenroomguru2 жыл бұрын
we would of had to insulate and put a DPM down either way, and because of the need to increase the floor area we had to put in the extra timbers. A floating floor would of been an option too I guess
@handle11962 жыл бұрын
@@thegardenroomguru thanks, im just trying to figure out the best method from ground up, of doing a concrete base instead of ground rods. I thought an insulated slab with a 4x3 timber sat on top of the concrete base perimeter would be protected from any water because the battens then cladding would be over hanging the base?
@muscleprotein2 жыл бұрын
@@handle1196 that is what I plan to do. - Dig out - a small amount of mot type 1 compacted - sand blinding -dpm - 100mm insulation - another dpm as shouldn't pour concrete directly on insulation - might put a wire mess in for a bit more strength and to reduce cracking - then pour the concrete

You said “timber can’t get wet” what do u think they do in American and Canada when it’s winter?
@thegardenroomguru2 жыл бұрын
Ive never said it can't get wet and if I have you've not watched enough to know me. Ive always stated OSB3 can't get wet because your roof won't be successful. The majority of our timber is kept outside in the timber yard. What I do often say is keep it as dry as you can to help the long term frying of your build.

Liam, I've been going through different base design iterations for a while now for my workshop/garden room. I want mine as low to the ground as possible, plus i cant use your standard system as i cant get sufficient air flow underneath. So i settled on a concrete slab and then PIR as a floating floor. But then someone mentioned not great for workshop due to weight of machinery. Your design in the video looks good but wondering if the concrete touching the base would make the room cold or is it negligible? Thx
@thegardenroomguru2 ай бұрын
Negligible mate, but a floating floor won’t give you issues either. 100pir with 18mm t&g flooring won’t compress
