Have you actually kept track of the things you sore you would never do? We've all said it many times. I'll never do this or that. I'll never buy one of those things. I'll never...... Whatever. Then later we realize that life , needs, personal opinions, preferences, requirements or situations change and we do or buy or need the very same things we sore off. Clearly you sore off dictionaries a long time ago. It might be time to get one and start reading it. 😏

“Hello CanadianCouple”. You are not Canadians, you are Pinoys. Genuine Canucks are generally courteous and understanding, and not rude, like you. If you have followed Paul and Mae’s story, as we have, you will know that Paul was sincere about having changed, and having adapted to the surroundings and situations. He is also looking at the horizon, and trying to ensure that he leaves something tangible for Mae for her security. You would do well for yourselves if you could be more thoughtful and tactful. Think about your children and your parents, instead of minding other people’s business

You call yourself “CanadianCouple”? Are you stupid, ignorant or just jealous of Paul’s thoughtfulness and love for Mae? Or maybe all of the above. I feel sorry for your kids and your in-laws and neighbours. You are miserable people.

Saving this video because one day in 2 or 3 years I may definitely want to have your guy test soil if I go the route of growing in a certain place. The soil comment was funny. It has me think of the scene in Waterworld lol.

Hi Paul... Yes it's raining, Have you looked into the clay in your area. What this means is, will your plot flood. If there are any homes around you that have built up the base before building will give you a clue. A high water table is common over many parts of the PH and now would be the time to build a platform for the house base. If your builder is local he should know this and advise you. If you put a DPM under the building slab, i.e. a plastic bag under the concrete slab, It will stop water being drawn up into the house, and save your electronics dyeing prematurely. It's very common in the west, but Pinoy's seem not to know or are bothered as they wont be living there. Keep the reports coming.😃

The best trick to building a house is the also one of the best tricks to life ...... Just go with the flow. A garden? Look around at what grows well normally, otherwise you are making a rod for for your own back with the amount of nutrients and work that will be required to get a decent crop of a forced vegetable. It is never a one-off application - it may well be year after year. Glad that they are marking out rooms for you. Recommend that you and Mae walk the house imaging getting up, making breakfast etc ..... Invariably, it will highlight something which doesn't quite work and saves you time and expense before the building starts. One biggie ..... Try to make a paper bed rectangle and try it in the bedroom .... Can you move around the room easily? Could you move around if you end up in a wheelchair with age? About 70% of elderly end up with wheelchairs or walkers so plan up front ..... Could you get to the bathroom? Kitchen? Ramp outside? Not being unkind, just practical.

The very best of everything in your building project, Have a few questions for you: 1. What is your drinking water source? 2. What does your septic (wastewater system) consist of? 3. Giving any thought to using solar power? 4. What's the availability of a dependable wifi? 5. How many rooms in the house? 6. Are you constructing a carport w/storage area? Be sure to put an ample number of electrical outlets throughout the house, especially above the kitchen counter tops. Philippine homes are notoriously short in that category. Install outside water faucets on the house. Hope you find some of the suggestions helpful, Paul. Thanks for the tour. B😃B

If it takes months to get the soil test results back, you might want to try a much simpler, faster method: plant just a few seeds (maybe half a dozen, no need to waste too many if it doesn't work) and see how well/fast they grow? If you're not happy, then the test results might tell you how to improve it - but the soil might be perfectly fine so why wait?

I have been in the Philippines for three years. When I first arrived I shaved my shoulder length hair and quickly learned that I need Aircon after 9am. Slowly I stayed out more and more. Last September I moved to the windward side of the island. What a difference having a breeze makes. Since then no Airton. I admit that the fan stays on 24/7 and I have learned to sweat something that never happened in the great white North. But your body does adapt.

Primarily working out of the Manila area but hope to have some time off, including weekends, etc. I hope I can meet up with you for some coffee and such. I think I've been subscribed and tuning in now for at least a couple of years. I know you have a pretty big group of subscribers but I'm sure they don't all make it down there. Anyways, good to know you're staying engaged and active.

Keeping your soil covered with mulch really brings it alive. It holds the moisture, and attracts worms who prey on the decaying mulch at soil contact, and with worms come worm castings which provides an excellent food source and bio activity for your plants. My soil was as course as cheap short strand denim, but after treatment, it was like cashmere.

Hey Paul, what a nice lot you have! Since you're starting from the ground up, have you heard about the ground-coupled heat exchanger, also known as an earth tube system? It's an effective natural cooling solution, especially in the tropics. It doesn't require energy and is really low tech, which means no maintenance. Since you're going to do some foundation work, planning for an earth tube system won't increase the building budget significantly. And as you plan to get a photovoltaic solar system, having a low-tech air conditioning solution should drastically reduce the energy needs. What do you think?

Paul good luck with the house. Watched your success video. Success is different for different people. I did well in my life, worked hard, paid for college for kids , etc. Met my filipina wife 3 years ago , married now and she in in the states now for 7 months. I have never been happier . Financially fine, want her to be american citizen to give her more options in life when I am gone . Same as mae. Life is very hard for average people here. Next summer returning for 3 months. Hope to visit dumaguete . For me success is simple life, came from lower middle class family . Didn't have much but great parents, never hungry and so much love. I was blessed as I am now with a wonderful woman to share my life. Hope to see you next year
