To be fair, castles were actually intentionally designed to have confusing interiors for the uninitiated so that anyone trying to storm them would have a harder time.

Common myth. People mostly lived in castles. By the time you have to defend the inside of your castle you have lost.

@@__lasevix_castles are also used for military purposes and you’re not just going to give up if they make it inside so having a confusing interior would give defenders an advantage when otherwise they do not

Every castle was different, but there were some common techniques, like Two walls an inner and outer wall with gates that didn't align so they could shoot at intruders in case they broke trough the first one, another technique was spiraling stair to the right so defenders would have an advantage on the attackers (because they have more room to slash their swords). a gatehouse was really common with two gates and a "killbox" in the middle were they could trow stones and shoot arrows at the attackers with minimal risk. the keep had a removable stair at the entrance wich they could push away incase the attackers broke trough all the defenses. and for the last one... sometimes castles had secret exits hidden in the wall so they could launch a sneaky counteroffensive

I'm not trying to downplay his build but, realistically, castles were massive feats of engineering and earthwork. Many castles altered the terrain around them to better suit them. Moats, wooden castle walls, mottes, and retaining walls are all great examples of this.

This is definitely more fit for a count, and not a king. There's still some power projection over nearby villages, but the castle itself isn't very large or well-fortified. It's more similar to a chateau. It can defend itself against angry peasants, and has fancy fixtures, fit for a landlord.

I love your mindset of "it is what it is." The entire build was just a series of "it is what it is" and the finale to top off the cake was a big fat "it is what it is." I think a lot of people would benefit from having this mindset in general, especially when it comes to small annoyances that shouldn't be made to be bigger than they actually are.

A little tip for building roofs on top of randomly shaped buildings: if you think of the roof like you do with the rooms on the interior of a house, with different segments stacked together to make one shape. If you separate the roof into chunks while building, it can allow you to make a better adapted shape to fit it, and add some variety to top off the structures. Hope this helps, great videos btw!

While you were building I was imagining about what if ai was implemented in this game. Imagine about villagers actually coming up to the castle and admire what you've built. Ai could create events around the castle and the village. You could have free will about the situations and the ai would adapt to your actions.

This is my first time seeing one of your videos and i adore this. Youre a little better at interiors than me, but my build style is very much like this. I *adore* working around/with the terrain and it breaks my heart sometimes to see people level half a mountain just to build on a flat piece of dirt. I also love your choice of music, i listen to this kind if thing when i build as well. I cant think of any other sandboxes that are as comfy and relaxed as minecraft and this kind of music/ambiance suits it. Im definitely borrowing the tnt thing next time i feel like i need to change the shape of a hill a little bit or something.

The build looks great. If you are still looking for blocks that will give a bit more texture without large color shifts dead coral blocks could be an option, although they are a bit more red than stone variants and especially andesite. They are very close to gravel in tint.

This is how i built my first (and so far only) Minecraft castle. Honestly the results were amazing...i judt wasted days and days tearing down and rebuilding on the fly. If i had a LITTLE planning it would have saved a lot of headache. Great experience though.

This video was weirdly calming and relaxing. Also love the build and the process. Edit: If you struggle with roofs, make a high and sharp one with a block, stair, upside down stair, block stair..... or a simple rounded shape with slabs if the shape of the building is very odd. You can also have a sharp straight roof, with something odd on the side. really depends on the shape of the building and blocks available. Idk watch Grian's videos or something. Edit 2: The building next to the watchtower is amazing and the roof is fantastic!
