“The godly may trip seven times, but they will get up again.
But one disaster is enough to overthrow the wicked.
Don’t rejoice when your enemies fall;
don’t be happy when they stumble.
For the Lord will be displeased with you
and will turn his anger away from them.
Don’t fret because of evildoers;
don’t envy the wicked.”

Great video Jimmy. I'm an OO/HO modeller but I might just see if I can find space for this - one loco and some stock shouldn't break the bank. I'm also a big fan of longer videos which I watch whilst working, so this was right up my street. Thank you!

As an addendum. for anyone who wants to do a bigger layout with Unitrak with ballast. I think I cracked the code by studying Japanese layouts. Simply don't ballast the centers. White glue along the sides avoiding the tops of the ties. Then spoon the ballast along the edges. Once dry a ballast color rattle canned or airbrushed onto the whole thing then painting the tracks and ties as normal with a brush. Shockingly looks better and is way faster than poking and prodding ballast in the shallow tie relief.

for anyone who wants to do this layout but wants to use steam, I have comfortably used 2-8-0's on the same radius. You might struggle with anything bigger, I think you could realistically get a pacific or smaller onto it

Great compilation, Jimmy. I enjoyed this series the first time around, and it's still enjoyable. However, the DCC++ system you described 2+ years ago has, as you know, been superseded. You might consider providing links to your later videos in the comments, so new channel viewers won't be fooled by the very recent upload date.

Can I ask why you chose 1” foam as opposed to 1/2”? The 1/2” is cheaper but I wondered if there was a reason for the 1”. Great video!

I believe that homosote is the best and is mush better than foam boad. It is the quietest and can be screwed to the plywood.

Just a random thought that occured to me, why not use track "nails" or something else to secure the track, caulk seems a bit bad if something went wrong with the track; a section got torn up, warped, that kinda thing

I thought this would be interesting to watch, learn from and get some new ideas for a small 1st layout. Instead, I'm I'm watching and enthusiast electronics video on DCC Train control. This was, I thought, an entry level 1st layout, This level of electronics and computers is WAY above the entry level person's interest and most likely capability. The time would have been better spent describing a few DCC systems and illustrating the difference between DC and DCC controls. FYI I am an I.T. professional and am very familiar with these concepts and terms, but the average Grandpa or maybe single parent is not. These people want to get something going for their train enthusiast child, not spending hours learning what to most, are advance computer and electronics terms and concepts. Yes you can just skip past this but why not follow the K.I.S.S. principal on a first layout video?

Why have most of the KZfaq started going to over a hour long. I have a life and have enjoyed your programs when they are around 20 minutes long. I watch maybe 10 different programs so if they go over 20 minutes than I will not watch. After 20 minutes most of the videos become boring and you almost need to put an IV of coffee in your body besides drinking it.
@StevesTrains

Watch time is more important than views on YT, so having some longer videos can help with your channel. Anyway, this was a series of short videos he put together so people who want to watch the whole series will have everything in one video and actually save some time since it is trimmed up to take less total time than watching the individual episodes. It is easier to watch the full build process this way. The shorter individual versions are still available on his channel page as well for those that want to watch the series that way.

@@DIYDigitalRailroad I setup a library so I can go back and watch. So far that works out. But to sit and try to watch anything longer than 20 minutes I get bored and fall asleep. Oh well, I will just bypass any videos over 20 minutes, I had to cut back on KZfaq like Sparky, bnsf5169 and a few more. Even outdoorgearreview has got so long. Than on top of it, the program starts to get very interesting and pop goes a commercial and you loose your train of thought, it gets frustrating.
