Continue the evolve stone all the way to the ceiling for that real rustic cabin look. Or just drywall with some nooks to hold pottery, etc. Depends how much attention you want to call to the fireplace.

Re fireplace - when I started my apprenticeship, forty some years ago, my boss would have us put 1 x 6 v-match pine EVERYWHERE. I probably cut and nailed [by hand] fifteen miles of the stuff. Anyhoo, I think it would look pretty good above the fireplace. And for a finish trim in the corners, we would use hemp rope, usually 1" diameter.

A comment about the cardboard/thick paper to cover the finished floor: there's a product for that same purpose that is made of fabric scraps, it looks like the "insulation" on dishwashers. It's reusable (roll it up and bring it to the next job), it's heavy enough to stay uncurled (doesn't need to be taped), and it's usually much cheaper than the cardboard/paper or plastic options.

From a technical standpoint, Class A, B, and C are flame -spread classifications for materials as defined by ASTM testing. Class A materials have the highest resistance to flame spread and smoke development where Class C have the least resistance.

15:40 In the UK, decorators just put down dust sheets and move them to each wall. In my experience, any covering gets grit under it and causes more damage coz everyone stops being careful.

I like that ledge. That's a good idea. That fast setting concrete can go either way. I used it a lot to put pads for deck stairs to land on, it always worked good, I tried using it once to pour a chimney cap, I had to abandon the pour and break it all off later, it was setting as fast as I could get it to the roof

I LOVE you guys and pretty much everything you do, but honestly I don't like that Evolve Stone stuff. I mean it's clearly a breeze to put it up, but it's obviously faux stone with no grout, etc. I mean for one thing, too many of the joints line up, which would never be done with real stone...heck COULD never be done with real stone as those joints would crack and the wall would fail. You have to lap over joints with real stone. I just miss the old days when wood was wood, stone was stone, and when a house was abandoned it broke down and disappeared back into the forest with little to tell you it was ever there...except the real stone work of course (set in stone is right)! But then I don't have to build houses for a living, and if your clients like it then that's that. You guys are making great progress on this house at last after all those supply delays. I so admire your drive and commitment to serving your clients with a great result!

After having watched many, many of the videos on the Perkins Builder Brothers channel, I agree with Jason. Eric can, occasionally, be a little c-word, even to his own brother. If I were one of his co-workers, I'd be messing his mind up as often as possible, just to keep him humble.

I love the way the fireplace is coming along. This is my idea for the area over the fireplace: Run a few wide barn wood boards horizontally at the bottom & top by the ceiling. Then measure the width & height of the space between the two. Using the measurements, cut out a piece of plywood to fit. Then on it, design a tall wooden cut-out of a mountain with some white birch trees along the sides using real white birch bark (which you get at any craft store.) Paint a red-orange sunset with a few clouds & paint some green grass under the trees. Seal it all with clear, non-yellowing varnish. Hang the mountain scene up in the open space. You'll have a gorgeous DIY display over the fireplace! That's what I would do.
