I hate to break it to you, but your client still has Termites! Should have called an exterminator after the tear-out.

They NEED to treat this before closing in and all around the home! This is BAD. This was my nightmares about my house when i bought it, expected a full burn down but no, only the exterior siding and furring strips are destroyed by rain, ants and other bugs (don't have actual termites here but a few wood eating beetles) , everything innside of the weather barrier except some spots is just fine and untouched

Makes me itchy watching that. That house is a shambles; bodged interior walls, crappy panelling, dodgy wiring and that awful suspended ceiling throughout. Oh and termites. I’d rather live in my shed. Why the hell didn’t any of that get noted in a survey when they bought it?

Those flying, winged, termites are the swarmers. They usually come out by the thousands each Spring. Bad news for that homeowner 😢

Eric, I'd like to see this chevelle you speak of. With the house being in that kind of condition, the homeowner may want to consider storing it in a separate building.

I think those bugs with wings are carpenter ants. yikes. i would have this homeowner get his homeowners insurance out there to inspect because he could be looking at a whole new basement.

Should've pre-beveled every piece of wood you would then later cut to frame the inside.

As a carpenter from England I never even knew what damage termites could cause as we don’t have them. I moved to Australia 6 years ago and every build we do we always install termite barriers and I never actually knew how bad the consequences were! Very interesting to see and it’s crazy how bad it can get when left

Watched further on and this is honestly scary to see! You say potentially 50% of the houses in the states could have this god knows how many homes world wide would have these same problems without people knowing. Good job on putting this out there for people to see

I have a 1950's home that hasn't had that much love over the years. Decided to do a living room remodel and found the same thing. Water/termite damage. Tear one thing out to find multiple other issues. Being a disabled vet, I have lots of time to fix it, not being proficient in all the skills is my only downside. Love your content.

I bought a foreclosure a few years ago and i knew that part of the living room floor was soft, but when I pulled up the vinyl flooring there were SO MANY termites that I could literally hear them crawling. The damage was a lot like this house and much more extensive than I initially thought. 😬

One thing you can do to make sure that water is off before cutting it is run a 1/4” zip screw in it and then back it out. If there is pressure you can quickly run it back in. It’s a lot easier to manage that amount of water than running around with a 1/2” line cut trying to find shutoffs or turning the whole house or building down!

They owner may not like hearing it, and it doesn't go away. Fix the problems now before you regret it later and spend way more money. I come across this periodically with homeowners. This is why I have a binder with before, during, and after photos of jobs that the homeowner refused further work and regretted it. May be they don't have the money now. But I insist on getting us to come back and finish what is needed to be done.

Termites with wings are called swarmers, they are kings and queens of a potential new colony. This means the colony they are swarming from is 300k - 2 million strong.

house needs to be treated for termites, if not this repair will need to happen again. Removing the termite damaged wood and replacing it with new wood does not get rid of the termites. I'v been in the termite business since 1998.
