I’m looking into get the evo 13.5 and watched all your videos on how to start a marine aquarium in the evo. Your videos have been by far the most intuitive that I have watched. You calmed a ton of insecurities that kept me from trying the hobby. I’ve learned a ton via your explanations. I’ve got 2 questions that you didn’t touch on. 1. During cycling what is the feeding schedule that should be followed once the switches are flipped and the wheels are in motion and 2nd, I don’t see a wave generator in your evo, are those required as everywhere I’ve seen and read they suggest at least 1 if you plan on keeping coral? Again, great video series on the walk through of a first saltwater aquarium start up for newbies like me!!!

What's up bud have u seen a take cycle fast with just live sand and dry rock?

What’s the minimum size tank for a pair of clowns? Is the Evo big enough? Also sorry if it’s a dumb question for marine keeping but I’m really experienced fresh water keeper, can I not treat tap water as I would for my fresh tanks then add the salts for a salt water? Im soft water area, and usually add supplements for my shrimps water. Is doing that a no no for marine?

Unfortunately a lack of live rock which is of good quality has forced my hand into getting dry rock but my local store is helping me to get the biodiversity that live rock includes. I just hope it works

Can you do a video on how to convince spouses to allow another tank?
@kbreakspear4 жыл бұрын
I should add that these videos are hugely informative and have me wanting to set up a salt water reef that I’ve wanted for a long time. Only problem is convincing the wife to let me have another tank!

tell her you will limit her to one pair of shoes if you cant have. That usually does the trick.

Not sure I agree on the rock choice explanation. I'd say in the hobby today using Live Rock from the ocean is very much in the minority mainly because of the issue sourcing it. Cured rock and dry rock that eventually becomes live anyway is widely regarded these days to be more beneficial not only because of its convenience and financial benefit but maybe more importantly the near zero impact it has on the ocean itself. There are reefers everywhere with similar experience to yourself who have some absolutely stunning tanks that were all born using Dry or cured rock. I paid £6 for the cultured bacteria on ebay by ATM.. You couldn't get a kilo of live rock for that.

That's all Bollocks Gary bio active rock is not the same as live rock . Thats just marketing hype to sell you a low quality more convenient product at a premium price. The expression Cured rock has been perverted from cured live rock to dry dead scrubbed rock (originally to mislead newcomers). As for your reefers everywhere comment I'm going to ignore it as its just an anecdotal off the cuff remark from an in experienced hobbyist that requires proof you don't have. The main problem with the scarcity of live rock is the current lack of knowledge of handling and processing it in the Industry. Unfortunately They can make the same sort of money selling you crap with a lower investment on their part.

Hi. What's acting as the "food source" to get the cycle going? I've read people use market shrimp or phantom feed....
