6 жыл бұрын

This bluetooth speaker was designed to be relatively small, but large enough to produce a full powerful sound. It can produce approximately 30 Watts of total power output. It can easily be built with everyday woodworking tools and by someone that does not have advanced woodworking skills. The construction follows simple butt joints. I really like how this one came out and I think it sounds great!

Hey man, love your videos! Just a tip for the battery situation you have here. I have purchased some of these blue wrapped lithium packs before. I tried to open one up, what I found was the only half of the volume was actual battery cells, the rest was just foam to fill out the space. Turned out my 10.000 mAh 12v battery was just 5.000 mAh, which would be fine for a project like this one but not exactly what you are paying for. At least all of the cells are individually managed by a small BMS, but I would still recommend buying single-cell 18650's and a BMS. Much more flexible solution, and probably even safer and cheaper.
@SoundBlab
@SoundBlab 6 жыл бұрын
Hi Peter, thank you for the feedback. Yes, I also have opened one of these up, but I can confirm that the version I have seems to be OK and according to the claimed capacity. I agree that single cells and a BMS will be better, but I opted for this 'plug-and-play' solution to make the building of this speaker easier for those that are not that familiar with electronics and soldering.

If you want better low end out of it it should be ported with a horn design. Assume your going to use it outdoors or in a large space most of the time it will make the speaker sound much bigger. As for the drivers, a pair of Dayton 3.5" point source or 4" full range drivers would produce much better high end. Just something to consider if you decided to build another. Right now I have two Dayton RS100-8 4" full range drivers I plan on doing a portable build with.

The low en gets reproduced by the passive radiators. For these small enclosures, it's very sufficient. The Dayton drivers are definitely an upgrade

Hello apparently for the acoustic fabric you are using a spray glue from what I understand does the fact of using spray glue not create a film which blocks the holes in the acoustic fabric and therefore decrease the sound?

very nice speaker! why did you choose for the passive radiator over a ported or sealed construction? also, is it necessary to have a 'wall' dividing the speakers? thanks in advance!
@SoundBlab
@SoundBlab 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks! A port will add additional size to the enclosure since I need to compensate for the space they take up inside. Passives allow for a smaller enclosure and better transient response for the small drivers. It is not essential to have the divider, but this is a stereo system, so each speaker will output a different signal on occasion. The divider helps to minimise the interference that you get between to two drivers and will hopefully provide a cleaner more accurate sound output for each channel.
@lestergranger1685
@lestergranger1685 4 жыл бұрын
@@SoundBlab I hear what your saying and I understand... but with speakers so close together stereo is a little unwarranted. Use a sing 30w amp and parallel the drivers to use it to is full potential (loud as it will go) Not to knock... but more people will complement the volume then the stereo separation. Very good work by the way.

Always enjoy the vids, but always come away with some questions. For instance, you don't seem to tune your passive radiators with weights. Is it just a wild a$$ guess, or do you design the enclosure to work with those PRs as is? Always interesting aesthetics, but how much technical design for acoustics goes into these projects?
@SoundBlab
@SoundBlab 5 жыл бұрын
Hi, all my projects are based and designed around acoustic and engineering principles. I always measure drivers and design enclosures around the resulting specifications. You will find many projects on KZfaq where builders just slap any driver into a box and expect it to sound good, but not on my channel. PRs have their own specs, but many of them don't come with them. So I would measure their weight and use an estimate to incorporate them into a proper design. PRs already have a specific weight, so it is not always necessary to add additional weights to get a proper integration.

What is the displacement on those little passive radiators? Or did you more or less just figure it would be fine given the main driver size/displacement.
@SoundBlab
@SoundBlab 3 жыл бұрын
The performance of the passive radiators are very much determined by the weight and area of the diaphragm or 'cone'. I used these parameters to determine the ideal enclosure volume. A basic rule of thumb to make sure your passive radiators are big enough, is to make sure that they are roughly 1.5 to 2 times the size in area of the woofers.

Hi. This could be a number of things, and I am only guessing here, but it could be the amp that shuts down because you are overdriving the unit, or the lipo battery you are using can not handle the current that the amp draws.

I've never seen your channel before today, I just wanted to say you've got some really great content. I could watch stuff like this all day, I love seeing things being planned and constructed. 13:20 I wasn't sure how I felt about the speaker mesh being wrapped around the entire enclosure, but it really turned out awesome in the end. Did you ever do a sound test on this build? I'm not sure if you've ever heard of a show called how it's made, but you've got a similar vibe going in this video. If you have any videos where you do a little commentary about what you're doing at each step of the way and why I would be all over that. One of my favorites is this one by Stereokroma, ( kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qaeVi9acv66nYqM.html ) where they visited greenfield guitars. I would love to take on a project like this but using some speakers that are a little larger maybe something closer to 4" or 6". Do you have any recommendations on higher quality full range speakers in the 4"-6" range? I'm guessing I would need something in the 4ohm range? Cheers and thanks for the upload.

The sales from the plans helps me to continue to design, build and upload projects, but even then I still do not break even. I am sure you can find cheaper or even free designs out there, but keep in mind that what I build has been done right from the ground up and you can be sure that it will work 100% if you follow the detailed plans, and be happy with the outcome.
