The author does like to from scratch, kzfaq.infoUgkxbnOKZBE4evMO5V2vroHeCjq6d_MV6wJO shaping and trimming wood from large blocks into fine finished products. As another reviewer mentioned, most projects require a lot of high-dollar equipment that most of us don’t have the room or budget for. But, knowing how to do these things, even if we won’t be able to practise the full stack project, is still great.

Tamar, you may have outdone yourself this time. That is a very good-looking desk and file cabinet. Your explanation of how to build the cabinet and drawers is spot on. Very well filmed and explained. You have come a long way with your woodworking skills, and it is always a pleasure to watch one of your videos. BTW - Not only did I watch your video some time back where you answered question and talked about how you pronounce "drawer", I watched Norm for enough years to know exactly what you are saying.

Thanks - one of the best drawer videos !!! ... To add a small "trick" if you have a lot of cabinets to fit drawers of different sizes , rather than using a "scrap" panel of plywood to size where the cabinet drawers fit and cutting it to size each time , take a couple of off cuts and cut them to a few pieces of 20cm, a few pieces at 10cm , 5cm , 2cm and 1cm and color code them with some sharpie ... This way you can "build up" a spacer of any size you want rather than "wasting" a lot of panels and sacrificing them as spacers .. if you have 5 cabinets of different drawer sizes you would end up "wasting" 5 different panels of ply (and plywood is NOT cheap these days!)

That is a great looking desk. Love walnut. You're brave using a paint brush instead of a roller on the rolling cabinet. No wonder you don't like painting ;-). I've generally stopped marking for the Domino's middle holes, but instead use the cross stops (I have a DF 700, so maybe they're not as handy on the 500). Much quicker, and more accurate. @@markbailey350 vertically? I knew how tall the cabinet needed to be to fit under the desk. I knew how tall the bottom drawer had to be to fit files. I divided the rest in 2 🤷🏻‍♀️😂

Any plans for a project that utilize 20 / 30 or 45 deg.angle Joinery ? This seems to be the least addressed type and everything I've seen are for small joints like drawers vs larger pieces that would need strength .

The black paint and walnut combination really stands out. A few thoughts: didn't you consider mitered edges for the module? You have a domino cutter anyway, and although assembly is more difficult, you wouldn't have to struggle with putty afterwards. Visually also more attractive as you don't have plywood end grain. For this kind of furniture I would even consider MDF rather than plywood.

awesome build. I have wanted to make some thing similar to store airbrush paints. I am curious how you came up with the draw heights? is there a generally accepted height, or do you decide how many drawers you want and divide the space evenly?
@3x3CustomTamar
@3x3CustomTamar 9 ай бұрын
Well… I knew I needed the bottom drawer to be tall enough for files. And I knew this needed to fit under the desk. So after those 2 things were works out I could just divide what was left over.

@AllenBrosowsky

I thin I might have missed something. I noticed that you set the drawer width (fronts and backs) by measuring the leftover when the drawer slides and sides were put in and then, as if by magic or sheer luck, they fit file folders with hangers on each side. I only noticed because I'm getting ready to do some drawers and I'm shooting for an exact internal drawer width and I have found working from the inside width I need plus the width of the sides and slides to come up with cabinet width. Clearly you are better than me on this.
@3x3CustomTamar
@3x3CustomTamar 9 ай бұрын
That wasn’t magic. I planned for the width to fit files. I knew I was using 1/2” ply. I know draw slides are a 1/2” thick each. So I knew what width drawer I would have. But that exact measurement is like is it 15 and a 1/2 or is it 15 and 15/32?
