Any design of an observatory that will keep the telescope out of the closet and give the user more eyepiece time is a successful design. Looking good.

Hey Rob, this video just showed me how I need to have my obs roof work. You are a genius! Many thanks for solving my dilemma. You the man!

Hi Miguel- thanks for your comment. I'd just be a little wary about size- my shed is 6'x5' and the panels are quite heavy. If yours is much bigger it might be a problem, but for this size it works well 👍

It is a bit late now mentioning this for you Rob but for the rest of your viewers here is a tip for removing trees. If you are going to remove a small to medium tree after you have removed the branches use the stem/trunk as a lever pushing it back and forth whilst continually undermining the roots with your spade. It usually takes 10 or 15 mins to remove tree and roots all in one, it saves a load of time and back breaking work. Love the photos.

So how / where does the roof slide to?

It has already got 6K views Amazing!

In Canada any branch that crosses into your property can legally be cut off. Here we only own 6” below ground but to the stars straight up, cut away. Nice job by the way

Nice video but I'd like to have seen the stage between 2:00 to 2:05 and establishing the very base of the shed on the bare ground.

日本語で書きます。(I wrote my message in Japanese) 。。。

How does the roof peak stop rain from getting in? Overlap of some kind? Would have been better to show the functionality of the sliding roof panels and peak. Otherwise great idea. I have my own plans too, but will have fold down panels on the three sides of the square shed. The North side will contain the door. Imagine it like tall, fold out windows, but no glass.

Yep. I don't see how this is water tight. Or how a strong wind won't lift them off.
@robandjo20014 жыл бұрын
Thanks Ray and Jason for your comments. I made it watertight by fitting an upside down length of guttering on one of the roof panels that overlaps to the other one. Both roof panels are then secured with tower bolts on each side and tied together. It survived a storm with 80mph winds unscathed this February so I think it's ok (I was nervous though!!!)

Looks like it took more than 5 minutes to build but it wasn’t clear how the roof actually works

Great video! Gives me hope assuming I can persuade the wife! :) Is that an EQ6-R PRO?
@robandjo20014 жыл бұрын
Hi- sorry only just seen this. It's an HEQ5 Pro- I'm pleased with it, but an EQ6 would enable me to use a bigger scope on it
@dilipsharan86994 жыл бұрын
@@robandjo2001 Indeed. That's why I upgraded from an iOptron ZEQ25. The ZEQ25 is a great little mount but cannot carry too much weight

Rob, would you be able to share more details on the shed and the blueprint? How wide is the base? How easy was it to convert the roof into the foldable one you have? I would appreciate if you could share any info.

I feel tricked! I only clicked on this video because I thought you had come up with a simple and quick solution. No...all you came up with was time lapse.
