Great color choice, Greg! After years of dabbling with RGB colors and illuminating my PC for all moods, holidays, and seasons, the simple classic "ORANGE" has become my go-to. Easy on the eyes, illuminates brilliantly, not too distracting. Love that distinct vintage flavor like my dad's old Sony sound system from the 1970s (which he impulse bought instead of a new car, and it still works to this day).

Hey Greg, If you want to customize the whole cooler itself, the cpu cooler has 2 cables that could be attached one at a time but not both together for the rgb controlling. When looking in the box, there should be a second cable for the cooler or you might have to purchase another cable like I had to. I bought the cooler off Facebook marketplace and found that out the hard way. Check there is a rubber flap protecting a port on the cooler. That is for the cable that also controls the outer ring of the fan.

Only downside is pcie 3.0 that makes no real life difference with RX6700XT. AM4 is amazing platform still good in 2024 for new build.

I put together a rig for a friend about 18 months ago. I'd built his rig around the 5600, on an MSI B550 Tomahawk board. I sold my 32GB DDR4-3200 CL16 RAM to him for $30 and I used that to upgrade my RAM to DDR4-3600 CL16. GPU prices were still pretty high and after getting burned on an ebay purchased RTX 2080, I decided to sell my 2080 Super to him for $300. The total cost of the build (with shipping) was just under $800.

Awesome video Greg, and a well balanced build. To your issue with Star Wars: Battlefront II: Are you running it in DX12 mode? Every time I have seen anyone running DX12(In SWBFII) it seems to be completely broken, as if it was tacked on as a show piece when they were really trying to push DX12 originally. Try DX11 and I would bet your performance issues clear up.

Videos like this are really helping me with my thought processes at the moment. Right now, I am on a fully custom water-cooled system with a i7-7700k clocked to 5GHz and a 1070 overclocked Sea Hawk custom water cooled. So as age of the system is starting to plague my thoughts along with missing Windows 11 compatibility, my mind is moving towards the idea of building a new system. The thing is, I don’t want to go much over the 1k mark, whereby I can re-use my PSU (700W Dark Base Pro) D500 Case and Samsung 2TB NVME. I will probably move to air and drop the water, though when I am working (not gaming) my system is 100% silent, which is amazing. Anyway, thanks for the content. It is helping me reach my decision on what system I finally go with.

I was curious about why internal USB-C connectors aren't palindromic like the cables so I looked into it some. And it looks like for whatever reason, the motherboard pinout simply isn't palindromic. To make things more fun, apparently that header is called a USB Type-E header (I couldn't find anything that was called a Type-D header or port) USB is such an amazing standard. 🙃

If you have this B550 AX V2 you can push it to its limits with a GTX 4080 Super or a 4090 if you are that fancy and a Ryzen 9 5950X with 2 RAM DDR4 4000mhz (16 x 2 ) this is basically the best set up you can put right on this MB, I don't know if Nvidia series 5000 and AMD series 8000 would be compatible with this MB, but having a high performance processor like the Ryzen 9 5950X and good ram, you can push an even better GPU.

Personally I would have gotten the Arctic Liquid Freezer II AIO cooler which is currently $50 less on Amazon than the NZXT Kraken in 240mm. It's a much better performing cooler, you'll just be missing the LCD screen, which to me personally isn't nearly as big of a deal when other critical components are being compromised on. For instance, for that $50 savings you can bump up to a 6750xt and get 10-15% better performance from your GPU, or even better get a 4060 ti if you can catch one on sale for the same price and get up to 30% better GPU performance. I'd rather have that than a dedicated screen telling me what temp my CPU is, especially when the Arctic Liquid Freezer II would be completely set and forget with a 12600k (i.e. there's no reason you'd ever be concerned with CPU temp).
@JohnMartin-qh2pw
@JohnMartin-qh2pw 4 ай бұрын
@nickb.249 I bought the Kraken Elite on sale for $129, it keeps my CPU at a constant 30 to 35° while gaming, and I can keep an eye on my GPU temp on the LCD screen as well. Besides, the mounting block on the Arctic looks like something from the Borg Collective... Not really my style

You based the color choice for the cable extensions on your watch didn't you? Speaking of which, I did a double take when I saw that on your wrist. That is like the younger twin of the one I wear. The difference being mine is 40+ years old and one of Seiko's first quartz diving watches. It was a gift from my parents and for the time, a very expensive one. The dial and hands are almost identical to yours. I change the battery and gaskets every few years. It still runs within a second a month. At the time I got it, it wasn't really considered at all stylish being big and bright orange. That didn't stop me wearing it then. Of course now it's right in the current fashion for dive watches.

$1200 is where all 4 of the PC's in my home are. Next upgrade is getting 5600 cpu's for my brother and son in law. Maybe adding another 16 gb of ram to mine. Last year, i upgraded all our NVME's to 2 or 4 gb models. because the prices dropped to less than $80 each. Wait, you forgot the case in the description!

Would like to see you drop in the new 5700x3d when it comes out in a few days and compare the performance .

I have a budget of $1500. What are some upgrades I could make from this? I’m new to this and don’t fully understand what causes bottlenecks in performance

My only regret is building with a 500gb nvme, that space goes fast so 1TB is absolutely the very least you should go with

I am new to pc's and trying to get a pc for around this price. I'm just wondering what difference using an intel i5 instead of the 5 5600x would make?
