I have to say that I have always used the classic way to make bread board ends but was very impressed on how you used dominoes to do the same job which is much easier and probably as secure if not more so depending on the glue used.

Awesome build! And thanks for the fence tip. Since someone always says this about my comments, yeah, yeah I know...I'm long winded and my comments are like novels.... In my experience dowels are actually stronger than Dominos when you use the correct number for the joint size but they do take longer...Not as much time as some would try to convince you but they do. Just like with anything in woodworking, it all comes down to your workflow and how tightly you nail it down. When I need to knock out a bunch of repetitive pieces at once AND don't need the added strength, I use my Domino. When I absolutely need the strength I grab my self-centering dowel jig and use multiple, appropriately sized dowels. In general, whatever method results in the most direct wood face to wood face contact will be stronger as the glue sets up. I should say it also depends on how good your glue is as most times when either Domino or dowel joints fail it's due at the glue up points . I'm not trying to piss in anyone's Cornflakes so please don't argue with me. Do your own research and you'll see for yourself. There are plenty of KZfaq videos out there proving what I said to be true as long as the tester used the appropriate number of dowels. If you don't want to dig around much there is a recent one by Scott Walsh done a few months back. He treated it like a science experiment, gathering data, break points etc. but there are others out there. Channels: Rag n' Bone Brown, Bourbon Moth etc. The Bourbon Moth video compared to bunch of different types of joints and it's pretty interesting as neither dowels or Domino's turned out to be the strongest. Either way, it's just a tool and people up on should use whatever makes them happy. I'm just offering info to those who might think they MUST drop a grand or more because someone told them that it's strongest bond when it's simply not. Where the Domino shines is it's ease-of-use so if that's the most important thing to you it's your $1,000 + solution.
@MWAWoodworks
@MWAWoodworks Жыл бұрын
Thanks! Strength was not a deciding factor for investing in a domino, though.
@genesishep
@genesishep Жыл бұрын
@@MWAWoodworks Yep, ease of use, I really do get it....Thanks for responding and I hope you don't feel like I was giving you trouble. It's hard to argue with a faster workflow if/when you need it. Also, people should use whatever they like. My Domino was a gift and I love my family for it so you won't hear me knock the tool, just the cost. Growing up dirt-poor makes you see it from a different point of view. To my the best thing about woodworking is its accessibility for people whether they have bags of money to spare or not... although that seems to be changing. For years I've been knocking out loose tenons with a hand drill & dowel jig in about 5-6 minutes both sides (less if I actually try) with a jig that cost me but about $40 and I had drills anyway. I just wanted to make sure that those on a string budget know that they don't have to sit on the sidelines thinking they can't do something they can.....easily. Especially because a lot of KZfaq watchers are new to the craft and looking for tool buying advice.✌️🙏😇 I'll be checking out more of your stuff, thanks again

Greetings, (Takes Deep breathe) .... As a newbie to woodworking, I was shuddering when I heard you were going to paint the maple... I literally paused the video, bowed my head, put my hand over my face, grimaced for a few seconds and said a brief prayer to the hardwood gods for the potential blasphemy... However, the table and benches came out nicely... Seriously, I love the contrast and will tuck painting hardwood (Hardwood Gods forgive me) in my mental rolodex. LMAO... But my question is, what application did you use for your layout and planning at the 3:15 min mark ? Not that you need to hear it, but great build, and now I'll scour your other videos.. You can't just buy shorter pieces of lumber. You have to buy whatever is being offered which is generally 10-12 foot lengths. If you do find someone selling smaller offcuts they are probably charging way more money than you would pay buying regular sized lumber.
