Hey guys! Here's a quick speedup video that hopefully can give you some inspiration on how to build your next VO booth. Very simply construction with PVC, moving blankets, clamps and a homemade table. This thing has served me VERY WELL for the last couple of years and not to toot my own horn or anything... but I've had compliments from many audio engineers on the quality of sound that comes from my setup. Hope you're doing great!

This is, by far, the best DYI voice over booth video I have seen to date! I suspended a large hula hoop from the ceiling, made a dense curtain around and overhead. Yours looks very easy! Thanks so much!

Great setup, love the video. How does this setup compare against those black sound dampening tiles you can buy? Thinking about converting my tiny closet into a soundbooth.
@joeessayvoice

inkshift I’ve honestly never used them. I think you’ll get more absorption from the Rockwool than you would almost every tile out there. If you do go the tile route, spend some cash and get the high end stuff like Auralex.

Joe, do you think this setup is better than a closet full of clothes?
@joeessayvoice
@joeessayvoice 2 жыл бұрын
I think that depends on how much dampening you actually have in your closet. I put this one up particularly because we moved houses and I unfortunately no longer had my wonderful walk in closet that I converted into a almost completely dead/soundproof booth surrounded by concrete walls in the basement!

Also, what are those white pieces behind the monitor?

Those are some home made sound panels that I made. Inspired by the one and only @boothjunkie! They work fantastically and you can also get inspired here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/sJtxo6yIx9Dak3U.html

I've not used sound-blankets before, how much soundproofing do they provide? Do you find they noticeably reduce noise from outside or are they mostly for reverb?
@joeessayvoice
@joeessayvoice 4 жыл бұрын
In this setup I have double and sometimes triple layers of blanket. I found that one layer is simply not enough and let’s too much “room noise” bounce around while recording. At three layers, I find it more than sufficient to block out external room noise that you create while recording a VO, and it does a superb job of cutting reverb or that “slap back” you hear while in the shower but if someone does happen to jump around upstairs, it’s still picked up by the microphone in the booth. I dig the setup and my clients love the sound which matters most!

What are the white panels that you put around the front- on the table?
@joeessayvoice
@joeessayvoice 4 жыл бұрын
Karen Johnston these are sound panels. Basically light framed boxes filled with rockwool to absorb as much sound as possible. They really make the difference!

@@joeessayvoice Thanks! I've been looking for something I can build to do just that. Looks like canvas stapled around?

Karen Johnston yup! Screen backing, and then a light canvas front. 👍

@@joeessayvoice And is it loose insulation to begin with, or a panel?
@joeessayvoice
@joeessayvoice 4 жыл бұрын
If you take a look at the rockwool, you’ll see that it’s a semi-stuff material. Not like the pink fluff you see in an attic, but not as stiff as a foam board. It’s made specifically to fit between the joists in your house, so that’s roughly the size wide I made them. Purely out of convenience! 😃
