There are a few brands out there with such expansive offerings that you could theoretically build an entire watch collection within that single brand. I thought it might be fun to try to do just that, and in this video, I'll build five totally different watch collections all with Seiko watches. If you like this type of video, suggest some other brands we might be able to use in the comments!

I think a lot of those who 'bash' on Seiko, including me, are more frustrated than hate Seiko or enjoy bashing on them. I own three Seikos and have plans to purchase two more. We all long for the days of the great value fabulous SKX as an example. We are frustrated that we can find other watches for much cheaper without Seikos issues often with better specs AND Seiko movements. These can be straight up Seiko homages, other brands including Citizen or sister brand Orient, or micro-brands. We still LOVE Seiko's designs but just wish they would fix the issues (these issues aren't huge or terrible expensive: milled instead of pressed clasp, signed crown, sapphire crystal - even synthetic and better QC) to justify the increasing prices or keep the prices down to a point we could say 'ok it isn't perfect ... but it is great for the price'.

I have 2 marinemasters and the new Naomi Uemara edition SLA051, but, my favorite Seiko is my Turtle. IMHO, that is THE quintessential Seiko, representing everything good about the brand in one product. It has heritage, function, reliability, quality, it's priced for the everyman, and it has great style. Plus, it comes in a variety of colorways and editions. A guy could start an entire collection of just Turtles. What more could you ask?

For me it’s Seiko QC issues on even more expensive watches, rising prices for entry models like new Seiko 5 while killing affordable and popular models like SKX007(in Poland SKX costs 300 euro or more and you have to import it from Asia) or SNK809. Don’t get me wrong - they are great company with amazing heritage, cool technology like Magic Lever or Diashock resist and SNK809 was my first automatic but I don’t like that they relegate affordable watches to brands like Orient when they go for middle and High End markets only. Good thing is that we have competition - low End market will always be there and customers who can’t spend more but would love to wear basic mechanical Watch. Hopefully someone will compete with Orient because in low End if you want dress Watch it’s always Bambino, Esteem or Envoy :)

You keep knocking these videos out of the park! 👍🏽 Can’t argue with any of the choices. I own quite a few including the SACM. It’s small but wears like a 36mm due to having very little bezel. The 8J41 movement was used in Grand Seiko and Credor before being replaced by 7r and 9r movements. It’s thermocompensated and carries 7 jewels in a full metal construction. My dedicated dress watch. Definitely worth a punt.

I had the same though, but with Tissot, given price point compatibility between the two. Visodate, Porto, Lisbia, Gentleman, PRX, Héritage Chrono (or Janeiro if you are super lucky), Sovereign, Seastar. Plus a whole world of vintage to delve into. And the T-Touch for the new tech generation. Athough, the Longines 1967 Heritage Chrono Diver stands as a near perfect one piece collection all on its own functionality-wise. 300m WR, column wheel, vertical clutch, 70 hours power reserve, second time zone bezel, timer bezel, tachymeter, and that burgundy adding just enough elegance for a business suit (it wears a lot smaller and thinner than it's specs).

And, the SPB217 Sharp Edge GMT with the blue dial for travel or when I want a little flashier look. With these four watches I cover all my needs. Thanks!

I just added a 2nd Seiko to my collection: a Presage "Old Clock" cocktail watch (have also seen it listed as a "Blue Manhattan" but don't confuse it with the actual "Manhattan" which has a different color dial. The "Old Clock has what they term a 'navy blue' which really shows off the guilloche pattern of the dial. The light plays off of it in a way that is mesmerizing, even more so than photos can display. I'm amazed at the beauty of the dials that Seiko produces at this price point. The "Sharp Edge" is on my radar, in either green or blue.

Ah this has been a trip down memory lane with those now expensive Seikos, I remember being too young to be able to afford them like 8 years ago, but now at the old prices they would have been THE watches to get. Imho from the SARX series you should have mentioned the SARX015, beautiful watch. To note SNK803 is the one watch from the other colours in the series that has the same colour line going through the date/day wheel as it does on the dial, the placement with the whole dial design is just spectacular considering that the watch costs south of 100$ while some several thousand dollar watches seem to only remember the date placement after the fact when the whole dial design has been made already. Really feels like the movements goes hand in hand with the design.

Great overview, Teddy. I love the "essentials" format. As for Seiko, it is my favorite brand with a lot to offer any collector in both the modern and vintage catalog. Like many, I was heavy into Seiko divers, trying every model until I finally purchased a proper Seiko Tuna after which I no longer had the desire for another diver of any brand. Something similar happened when I found the Seiko SCVL001, a rare ultra-thin mechanical dress watch from Seiko. Seiko has such an expansive catalog over the many decades that I believe one can find the perfect watch, or at the very least the perfect Seiko, for any occasion with a little bit of patience and a lot of research.

Seiko does a great job of offering styles that match the looks of much more expensive classics, without feeling like an outright homage. They also have many classics in their own right. For me, the Alpinist in olive is a more obtainable option to the Breitling pistachio, which ticks all the same boxes in the looks department.

However my most precious Seiko is an orange Pogue which was an 11th birthday gift from my dad in 1975. I think I'm a bit of a 'tick all the boxes' type of guy but I'm definitely missing a Seiko diver. Not sure which to go for though. I have a Christopher Ward Trident in 38mm with red bezel so don't really feel the need for another diver. I think the next Seiko I get will be of the 'Grand' variety when I can afford one.

A great video idea, even though I love Seikos range I want to see lists like this for other brands 👍

One notable addition if I may: the Seiko dawn grey turtle and samurai. These were Europe only releases. The color combination is fantastic.

I have like a half dozen Seikos, from Seiko 5 to Grand Seiko, with Presages and SARBs in between. 😁 I didn't plan it that way, they were just the watches that caught my attention at the time. I like striking, unique designs, and that's Seiko's strong suit, along with good value, even now.

I think I'd go for the "Purist" collection but instead of the 6139 Chrono, I think I'd sub in the 1975 Seiko 6138 Bullhead. For me the Seiko Bullhead automatic just screams iconic 70's Seiko and would have to be an addition to my collection,...that and damnit they just look fantastic!! Great Video, you should consider doing this for a few brands, Tissot, Citizen (automatics), Tudor, Zodiac etc. All would be worthy of one brand collections.

Wow! This video encourages me to build my collection. I now have an orient and 2 seikos which are all JDM. I want to build a collection around these 2 brands.

I have an All JDM, all Seiko, all 6R15 collection- SARB017 Alpinist, SARB033 Spirit, SARB065 Cocktail Tim, SZSC003 Third Gen Monster. I buy to keep, but interesting to see that clean, all boxes and papers examples have gone up 3X to 4X in price since I bought these new in 2017, 2018. You left out the Monster, but appreciate seeing most of them get some love on the channel!

I liked the purist line, as I have a SKX009 and a SARB035. Both truly classics.

I have owned Pulsar, Lanco, Orient, but Seiko was the trusted partner on my wrist, even during two years of bush warfare. Seiko is a solid timepiece.

Might I also recommend for the JDM wearer the "Ripley"? Quirky, cool, and funky enough to be in a collection. Plus it was designed by Giugiaro!

Great video Teddy - crammed with info that’s for sure! As a vintage Seiko Speedtimer collector, with over 35 6139/6138/7017/7015s you are correct that you need to do your homework to find an unmolested watch. But you also need this for more modern Seiko 5, Turtles, SKX and Alpinists. There are a lot of fakes and redials out there. Be sure to buy the seller.
