Tommy Garside shows you how to Build a Zither. -- This video was made in 1996. I recently re-edited it. Sadly, my Uncle Tommy passed away in 2002, but this video will live on to inspire others to play, and build Zithers.

Tommy Garside is my Uncle. We made this video in 1996. Sadly, in 2002 he has passed away. I wish he were here to answer your question. But my guess is you would need a bridge... But I would strongly recommend you ask someone else who knows waaaay more about this type of thing than I do. :)

Sad that he has passed on to the big music shop in heaven. This video shows just how talented he was. Wonderful little Zithers he created. I am just starting into msic, and Zithers are really cool, and apparently easy to make and play

I am making one from an old autoharp I made a template from. I glued two wxact pieces and cut out a center with the jigsaw. I do not have a band saw. The whole piece is solid. I will later find some good sound board and make a top and back. I like your Bridge pins. I may do that. I have to buy some panel from Lowes. I hope to find strings for it. I made the strings a half inch apart so kids can easliy also play it.. Iam also starting a 30 string Celtic harp. I have made a few of those.

I have a question...I was in Lowes Hardware store and noticed a thin wood called Lauan wood Would it work for a soundboard on a zither type instrument? Thanks

great video. Thank you very much. The only part that was unclear to me was how he fastened the strings to the hitch pins. Could you perhaps clarify?
@AaronShaunBrennan11 жыл бұрын
Great video! Can I build a simple one useing a board zither pins & hitch pins to connect the wire? Do I need a bridge, I rather not have a bridge just strings connecting from one side to the other. Will this work? Also what do you think about using cherry wood and purple heart wood. Thank you for your help and time!
