I found a zither at a thrift shop today and was absolutely enamored by it. It’s in pretty good condition aside from being horribly out of tune and missing some strings. Your video just provided me with the first step towards restoring it!

Thanks so much for posting this video! My son was so sad when a string popped while he was playing and I have never changed a string out before... you saved our bacon!

Did this today with your extremely effective tutorial. Thanks Bill and Liza! I appreciate your timely delivery of my instrument. As I mentioned in my Email, I was playing my favorite tunes right out of the box.

Thank you so much for posting this video on your website! I love my lap harp that I purchased from you so much, and using the video I was able to change the highest string on my own. It took two tries, but you sent enough wire for me to still accomplish this. I so appreciate your commitment to excellence.

Thanks from myself as well. Your instructions are the clearest I've found, tho I do wish you had stated the wire gauge and explained which gauge where. But since the instrument I'm stringing is a second-hand purchase of another MFG. and this video was made for another individual, I am not complaining! Just wishing. Good information is so hard to find.Thank you!

Thank you for your input. You are right. We will edit the video if we can to identify the correct gauges...which are: .016 for the bottom seven strings and .016gaauge for the top eight. Let me know if you need music wire.
@calebshoemaker5 жыл бұрын
@@billlacasse9414 you put the same gauge for both sets
@billlacasse94144 жыл бұрын
@@calebshoemaker There should be one set color coded blue and one orange. Let me know if that was not the case and I shall correct it for you. You should receive 1 set .016 and one set of .014. Please reply by email so I will see it right away.

Thank you. I have a Zither Heaven banjouke with zither pins and this should help with changing the strings (fortunately only 4 strings to change)

I'm replacing all the strings on a 15 string lap harp, seems to be the same size and scale as a cheap melody maker but has a beautiful oil painting on the sound board that the woman wanted preserved. That part is done but what gauges do I need? Is piano wire needed or will guitar strings do?
@billlacasse94145 жыл бұрын
Hello. We use .016 gauge on the bottom seven strings, and .014 gauge for the top eight strings. If you wish, I can send you some for free seeing that I took so long to respond to this. Email me at appalachianspiritfolk@gmail.com

I have an instrument that looks similar but I have no idea what it is called nor how to fix it. It has a broken cloth bow with it too

How much would a lap harp cost? Could you send it to Canada?
@appalachianspiritfolkinstr88492 жыл бұрын
Hi Joanne. Yes, we can ship to Canada. It is a little pricey, and taxes and Duties from Canada are the customer's responsibility in addition to shipping. Go to: appalachianspirit.com for a look at all that is available.

As a guitarist I'm fascinated with these instruments now, but with a 15 string Zither, how do you tie off the singular string? (Mine is on the low/Long string)? Also is it more cost effective to buy the string wire in a singular length than buying lots of guitar strings (my previous attempt when repairing an old painted Zither, although the tuning peg still undoes itself when under tension at the moment) ? what instrument string should I search for (UK)?
@appalachianspiritfolkinstr88492 жыл бұрын
Hi Tom. The same holds with ours. The low G is the single wire. It winds around itself on the left side. If you purchased your zither from us, your music wire is warrantied. if you need replacement wire, we will be happy to send you more. I you want to purchase wire, you can buy packages of it on Amazon. This would be the most cost-effective way.

Please email us at: appalachianspiritfolk@gmail.com. Let us know what type/size zither you have along with contact information. We do sell an Accessory Pack on our website. But, we should determine first if this would meet your needs. Thank you.

Can I use a guitar string to fix a zither or do I need a certain type of string?
