Watch this video to see 2 men building a parking addition to allow for a future carport to be installed. This addition is about 22 feet by 22 feet. The existing dirt was graded to create a level platform. The pad consist of a crush and run base layer and a washed stone for the finish coat. I used a takeuchi tl8 machine to move the gravel.

I want to add a gravel drive and parking area from my existing drive to my back garage, about 200" long and 12" wide, till it opens up by the garage at about 18' wide. I'm using railroad ties as a border. Do you see any issues with simply cutting the grass as low as possible (scalping it), then spraying with grass killer, covered with landscaping fabric and then gravel? Drainage is great in the area and not a concern.
@JustinBiddix
@JustinBiddix Жыл бұрын
I think you would be fine with that. Especially if it has good drainage and is not a soft area.

Wow that looked perfect. I can tell you pay attention to the fine details. Most people wouldn’t have even bothered making it look that good. How long did that take you ?

Thanks for the compliment!! It probably took 10-15 hours. I didn’t really keep track. I was going to school when I did it. So I hauled gravel before school and would work on it on my lunch break from school then after school. And on a Saturday morning. It was kinda hard to catch a groove and be proficient, but we got it done. Thanks for watching!

Is the paver base necessary? I’m doing a gravel firepit area and am wondering if I need to do that
@JustinBiddix

You can just do gravel alone. I have done that. Gravel alone is a little more hard to walk in. If you do it like I did it in this video it will be more stable. But either way is acceptable in my opinion!

How much gravel/stone did you use for this project?
@JustinBiddix
@JustinBiddix 2 жыл бұрын
I think it was about 24,000 pounds of the crush and run. And about 6,000 pounds of the washed stone

Is it easy to walk on the crushed rock top layer?
@JustinBiddix
@JustinBiddix 2 жыл бұрын
Yes because it is such a thin layer. If you go too thick it gets difficult to walk on.

I’m looking to do this same thing parallel to my asphalt driveway. Do you suggest doing anything between the asphalt and those two layers? You mentioned it being cheap, if you don’t mind me asking how much material was that layer?doesn’t look like you did it but any benefit to doing landscaping fabric or is that overkill? Sorry for all the questions
