This should solve the starting problem: A non-return valve in the fuel line is defective and is slowly allowing fuel to flow out of the line back into the tank. As a result, it takes forever to start, but if it was only off for a short time, you don't notice it and it starts immediately.

WELCOME TO LEMONS! i am one of the co-hosts for the 24 Hours of Lemons iRacing league on youtube and facebook! great to see you goobers building something to bring to one of our crap-can races! i got to put my finger on the actual D2 race cars from back in the day, i was stationed in germany and was able to put literally hundreds of laps on the Nurburgring. the museum at the track and visitors center had several D2 mercs on display at that time. (1999-2001ish). beautiful cars! love the idea, and i think you got close enough!

They should have at least enforced the $500 limit too. Spending $1800 on a car and selling parts to get it "under $500" is a pretty dumb interpretation of the rule.
@benthebuilder6934

@@jasonnickel384 he said it the video it's about who can bend the rules the most, that's what all of racing does and they only have 500 into the car so I don't see why it matters. If they bought a car for 500 the race wouldn't be fun, no one would even make it half way

Temperature of a bad sensor being hot will cause it not to start in my past experiences. Or If the sensor or plate has any oil on it from a rear main seal leak will cause it not to start. Both scenarios throw the timing off telling it not to start.

I had an old bmw that started doing this randomly. Took me 15-20 mins to start it. Figured out it was a defective security sensor in the key (the ignition cylinder charges the key). New battery in the key fob fixed it👍🏼

If your story is about an E46, that is false. In an E46, the key battery only controls locking and unlocking. The transponder portion inside the key that speaks to the EWS does not require a battery/charge.

Had one of these back in 2008 - loved it. The design with the pillar-less windows and seatbelt extenders is amazing. A truely elegant coupe! Was also the most reliable car I ever had. You guys got the best engine as well with the M112 V6. The c209 is the 2 door coupe and the a209 is the convertible model. They did a facelift in 2005 which look a bit nicer but ironically they removed the reliable M112 and replaced it with the M272 which had balance shaft issues. Good luck on your trip!

Cesare Fiorio, the team boss of Lancia, once ordered 300 tonnes of salt, and had it spread along the snowy route of Monte Carlo because they knew their RWD car was at a disadvantage against Audi Quattro. So Audi went out on snow tyres, thinking it was partially snowy and icy..While Lancia, knowing it would be dry, went out on slicks and beat Audi by 11 minutes... Ingenious cheating tactics.

Worked on Benz for over 20 years professionally. Put a crank sensor in it. They never set a code when they fail. To check it, see if your fuel pump has a signal when cranking, if not then it needs the crank sensor. Ecu will not send a fuel pump signal if there is no rpm signal when cranking. Crank sensor is rear of engine drivers side on the top of the bell housing. Bolt is an E8, use a 1/4" drive ratchet with a real long extension and a wobble. Put a piece of tape in the socket before putting it on the bolt to hold the bolt in the socket. 100% this will fix the starting issue.

It's still going to cost you close to 20k plus after mods (roll cage, labor, safety equip, lodging, pit crew, drivers, spares, transport etc...) for the 4 day event. Consider it a bucket list of things too do in a lifetime. Did a lot of enduro racing in the 90's same concept except we would do 500 laps instead of hours.
