In this part 2 of our Off the Grid Cabin build, we show the prep and the pour of our cement footers and foundation build. It was a family affair this week, we are so excited with what we accomplished! Spring weather!

I am now 68 years old and semi retired but worked construction my whole life including owning a rather large construction company. Your father-in-law definitely knows what’s going on and you and your family are all very hard workers. Building the cabin with family is going to mean so much more than if you had someone build it for you. Also having it on video is something you will enjoy for the rest of your lives !! I’m looking forward to binge Watch all of your videos to catch up on the build !! Beautiful property and a beautiful family and God bless you all ❤🙏✌🏼

Valid Point but go pro cameras are decieving. My Point is valid that the UBC should apply to every structure on earth. Electrical and Plumbing however can be a frigging nightmare if all rules apply. Nice Cabin.

@@LifeintheNorth40 My place is 16 x 22, I am actually in the process of adding on a 5x8 bathroom addition now. I've been working on it for 6 years. I am getting close to finishing it, maybe in a year I'll have have her done.

Hey great work. Why forums in the corners and mixed cement posts in ground in between? I plan a similar build but was planning on using the latter on all the posts. Similar incline as you but very rocky soil. Thoughts?
@LifeintheNorth40
@LifeintheNorth40 Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the encouragement! So the plan for this cabin had all the 6x6 posts "Pole barn" style with just digging a hole at the right location then just burying the 6x6's straight and level. However due the the location chosen for the cabin due to the creek, pond and cedars we also had a substantial down hill drop from the back of the cabin to the front. So we definately needed to use Sona tubes and cement due to the hillside and stability of the cabin. We did all 4 corners of the cabin on cement pillars, and did the two center runs of 6x6 posts front and back pole barn style (Dug hole notched 6x6 's into floor frame and backfilled the hole with sakrete cement, this was okay as we did the pillars on all corners as well as the downhill deck 4x4 footers were all Sona tube and cement pillar poured as well as the stairwell corner since it was downhill as well. I hope this answers your question. If you are building on a flat level site in sandy soil, you can just dig your holes and put your pressure treated posts into your holes with cement dry and pack it in and let them set up and you would be fine.

2 x 8 max span is 13 feet 1 inch

Hmmm. I guess you didn’t catch that the front and back frame is 16 foot, supported by 4 6x6 posts evenly spaced. The depth is only 10 foot for the floor joists. So your point is invalid
