Building custom controllers for MS Flight Simulator - software + hardware DIY - part I

3 жыл бұрынThis series will guide you through the whole process of building custom controllers for MS Flight Simulator. I will explain how to create software and hardware (Arduino based) step by step.
Some programming skills will be required, but you'll learn a lot along the way. The electronics part will be quite straightforward. However, I'll use some extra ICs (integrated circuits) and write my own software to enable communication between hardware and software running on my PC, so a basic understanding of C++ will be a plus.

I was so excited that I finally found someone who posted a video explaining in detail how to use microcontrollers with MSFS, only to be extremely disappointed that Part 2 was never made. Such a shame.

Great video. Looking forward to the next one! Just a quick question, could you use an Arduino as a HID to control all the switches, button etc and then another Arduino to receive events from the sim and output a led for example? Thank so much

Thats amazing, maybe you can divide it in shorter videos, so you don't have to do all the work at once. If you could start with a tutorial on how to get the data from the watcher to arduino and back i would apreciate it much :) If you have a 3d Printer i could send you some nice throttle and rudder files to bring your fs experience to a next level (even so I used the Arduino as HID :) )@@ProjektAlpha

Ziom, co dalej z projektem, wiem, że wsiąkłeś w "grę słów krzyżówkę" ale na litość boską, musisz z tego wyjść i dokończyć tutorjal, naprawdę, świetnie się to ogląda, no i jak zwykle, pełen PRO! PeEs Nawet nie wiedziaem, że tak świetnie nawijasz po amerykańsku, bez kitu.

I prefer to use Arduino since I already have it. Will you have a follow up video where we can create our own little project controlling switches and LEDs. I am interested in making a little GPS controller with a few buttons and 2 rotary encoders. I just need to see a few simple examples about the process. I can take it from there. Of course the section about the documentation would be also useful

Woah this looks like fun. Is this for ANY version of MSFS or just 2020? I'd been hoping someone would post this exact video. So - if I create custom controllers for FSX2004 version of MIcrosoft Flight SImulator will they also work with 2020 when i get it? OK after watching to the end I realise how hard it is to READ what's on my laptop screen so I may have to output to my 40" TV or get better reading glasses :) Are there any books teaching this stuff?

Hi! Sorry for missing your comment :(. I had to take a break to get things up do date at work. In the meantime a great microcontroller has been released by Raspberry Pi (Pico) and I'm considering dropping Arduino and using this new board. However, I must make sure all required libraries are available and working (i.e. LED display drivers, etc.). I'm already testing it and I will soon come back with the rest of the episodes.
