I've learned from this series that I would much rather have a great position and lose on time than have a bad position and lose on the board. For the first one, I just need to practice more so I can play faster and easily win. For the second one, I have to study the opening and position and try to learn to play better which is much harder to do.
@DerickMasai
@DerickMasai 3 жыл бұрын
I disagree on the first point. Look to many GMs and IMs and they'll tell you sometimes you just have to make a move when you don't know what to do because you're not playing stockfish who sees the endgame possibilities after 1.e4. Time is a piece on the board that you have to master in addition to the ones you move. There is absolutely no point in spending massive amounts of time on a move only to be flagged and tell yourself "but he's gotta admit I was in a good position there". The only reason Aman is doing this is because of the lesson otherwise I can assure you he doesn't go in to a game with that mentality that being flagged in a good position vs losing on the board is better. As to the 2nd point I wholeheartedly agree. I've always wanted to study openings but never given it priority and just made the same moves robotically every time. After this video I'm getting an openings book.

Both are part of the game, and a loss is a loss. Your opponent could also have a better position had he used more time to think. That being said, If you usually lose on time, but have a winning position, you are on the right track

Probably also worth noting that he routinely loses on time so he can spend more games in a given rating range. It's about teaching people at various levels, not trying to speed run.

Guys please help me out here. Regarding game 11 ... If you are black pieces and play the Sicilian c5 against e4 ... After 2. Nf3 you play d6 ... If your opponent plays c3 (delayed Alapin) (as occurred in game 11)... What does Aman consider black's best response to be when white plays the delayed Alapin ? Nf6 ? (obviously without taking e4 so white's Queen does not fork you with Qa4+) ? Or some other response ? Thanks !

@bigboy2217
@bigboy2217 Жыл бұрын
It really annoys me knowing he’s throwing when he’s this good, but I got over it. He gives you a gameplan and mostly executes it, which is just using your king and pushing pawns + some tips to make that work. Flagging is good because he can give premise advice and purposely lose, meaning he stays in lower rating ranges for a lot longer. He’s not going to do complicated endgame theory because one, people in that rating range likely won’t have it either, two, endgame calculation is often very long, sometimes 15 moves or more deep making it too hard for this range, three, the value of the game was already extracted from the earlier phases.
@Eidenhoek
@Eidenhoek Жыл бұрын
@@bigboy2217 Four, it also imitates the player possibly thinking longer on earlier moves, putting themselves in time trouble. And five, he's playing at low time controls for more games. Give yourself 10-15 minutes for a "normal" game and it won't happen as much.

Man, I really enjoy the lessons but please play for a win then explain the extra details during the match debrief. That way we get to share more on a position we're already familiar with and see your thought process on how to convert the endgames vs ours because being flagged is skipping these sections altogether.
