If anyone is wondering what happened around the 15 min mark, it’s an example of why you must regularly deep clean your airbrush. I failed to do so after completing PoW and it had become gunked up with paint. I had to disassemble it and run cleaner through it in order for it to function correctly. So remember, clean ya stuff!!

Awesome vid. I looked up the paint. Most sides say it never had red hull. Hood may have had a black hull for a brief time but never red. So yeah the red hull is strange. "Below Waterline: Surviving D495 Reports of Docking contained in ADM 136/13 (the ship's books) confirmed that everything under the waterline, to include the propeller shafts and rudder, was coated in Peacock & Buchan's anti-fouling paint (which was only supplied in grey and black). While there is some anecdotal evidence that Hood may have had a black underside around the time of her loss, photos taken as late as 22 May 1941 as well as footage of the wreck itself show the underside colour to be lighter than the black boot topping. This, combined with previous use, strongly suggest her bottom was coated in Peacock & Buchan's anti-fouling grey. One thing is for absolute certain: Hood never had a red bottom."

I built this kit,and I heard a roumer that the Hull was never red, identical on HMS ood web site and they confirm it,i must admit that the model looks very strange.

I've built this very kit. it's a wonderful build. imo trumpeter 1/350 kits are probably the best for the money

I really enjoy watching this series of videos. It reminds me of my early schooling days when I also used to assemble and paint model ships such as the Bismarck etc. Not just ships but also WWII warplanes. Most plane and ship models were from Airfix and later Japanese companies like Tamiya. If I am not mistaken, the Hood was over 1,000 feet long and when it first came out it was the largest warship in the world.

Not just HMS Hood. She’s “The Mighty Hood”! (And had she not blown up, who knows what she might have done for the rest of the war).

Attaching that name to her was part of the reason she got into trouble. A false sense of being something other than just a Party boat with very little combat experience. Then combine a knuckle-headed Admiral and it's gulg-gulg. (By the way, if BISMARCK had sailed with the planned compliment of other warships, England might have been forced to surrender.)

I would advise against using green frog tape. It's a stronger adhesive than the yellow and I have had it pull paint off the model. Get the yellow one.

Hmmm I don't think I've ever built a ship that didn't come with a red hull unless larger 1/200 kits. Also those old school Testers enamles are finicky with an airbrush and need some thinning.

The fowling line (or boot topper line if your ex royal navy.) actually lines up perfectly where the top of the citadel would be. And at full load. You wouldn't want to see the line because that means the citadel is waterline. Unfortunately it didn't save her from that one shell landing short and hitting that unlucky spot. But just a fun little fact.

Most (but not all) of Trumpeters ship models are made in upper and lower halves with the bottom in red plastic. Not sure why: they could easily be done in the same grey as the rest. Probably because most ships are painted red below the waterline, although again, not all. Some French and Italian ships were green down below.

My Trumpeter 1:700 Hood also had the red plastic for the part below the waterline

Sea Lord, yo ushould try some newer brands, like Flyhawk or Very Fire. Their kits are REALLY awesome, the molding finesse is incredible. You don't even need photoetch. I like Trumpeter's offer (perhaps the widest out there), but their adjustments are often fiddly, at best. You nearly always need some putty to make the hull... I like your build vids , keep em coming! :) Try to dilute your paint more precisely, I can see that yours is WAY too diluted when you are painting the hull ;)

At 1:15 I see another 1/350 Trumpeter kit behind your air compressor. Seems like an Arado AR 196. Possibly a Graf Spee or an Prinz Eugen kit? Also nice to see some fellow Modelbuilder in the WoWs community. And thx to your vid I now kinda want a Hood too. How would she look like next to my 1/350 Richelieu I wonder.

I seen a 350 prince of wales in a shop yesterday that woupdve gone great with my 350 Repulse. But i refrained. I want to eliminate my pile of shame. So this video is bad for my health atm XD

Are the lines the same on console as on pc? Because in your ‘best battleships for 2022’ video i cant see any of the ships that you are talking about?

@@dutchthespitfire3204 Hood were plan to build 4 ships, make using the 1942 Hood as a reference point and make a same type of ship ?

@@user-ms8qg2rz5s Hood was a admiral class ship and 4 of those were planned but only Hood was completed but the original names for the other 3 ships were re used by the RN and some of the ships that got those names are already in game

Man you must have limited experiance building ship models. You need to expect that every surface will have to be primed and painted. And the parts will have to be washed with soap and water to remove any mold relese and throughly rinsed to make sure there's no soap reesidue left behind. If you don't do these steps you can wind up with your paint not adhearing to the parts!

I’ve never really bothered with priming the hulls of my models and all seems to have gone well so far, I’ve completed 8 so far with 6 still on display. Granted I haven’t painted much on them as they have all been left in their neutral grey color (except for smoke stacks, tops of masts, deck, anti fouling coat) with the exception of PoW and the flight deck of Enterprise. I’ll probably be applying primer to the Hoods bits as I’ll be handling them after they get painted. I am using enamel paints which are a bit tougher than acrylics, I do think that’s where a bit of the disconnect comes in
