ohhh I like that thought, have the key on a spring like the ignition in a car. Might keep that idea for a future project, I think for the ease of use a push start button will do. I even looked up a R35 GTR push button start button, but couldn't justify the price haha.

Yeah man, no doubt there's been many years of frustration and learning, but I feel I'm at a stage now where I have made enough things that I can really enjoy the process of taking an idea into the real world without too many hurdles 😄 Or, it may honestly be I've matured to know that things go wrong, mistakes happen, but it's the trying that matters, which leads to the joy 🤙

Hey Cam! you can use Noctua fans they are pretty silent and high performance! there are black ones but you can spray paint the fans to match your asthetics!

I had a Noctua cooler in a previous build, the classic beige! I'm not sure how I'd go painting a fan blade. They probably put a lot of R&D into the tolerances between fan tip and edges of the housing as well as surface finish. May make no real difference, but I'd prefer to try a white option out the box. Hopefully the AIO's stock fans aren't noisy 🤞

Also that thick acrylic looks incredible. I like that you decided to recut the hole - my immediate thought was to dremel something but your solution is much smarter :)

Yeah Adam I'm so happy they're onboard the project. I really love when organic relationships form simply from them watching the desk build series. As for the acrylic, yeah oddly enough I didn't even think about grabbing the drill until after I'd re-cut the hole. Crazy how the lasercutter has become a tool in my workflow.

You should remove the plastic cover from the radiator so that the hot air doesn't get trapped inside, otherwise your CPU may overheat. You can also replace the fans with Noctua fans, which are a lot quieter.

Oh yeah for sure it's coming out before I turn on the PC, I've left them in there to protect the radiator fins whilst lifting metal bars and bolts around it haha. Didn't want any damage before I even get to turn it on haha

I run open frame setups for years now, they are awesome because you have access to everything and cleaning is literally just blowing over it with some compressed air, due to the open nature, the pc can run on very low rpm as there is no case unnecessarily trapping hot air, so it is easier to cool components with colder air, my gaming pc only needs the fans turned on when I play modern high demand games, so it is completely silent when working or browsing, if you are comfortable having a giant noctua air cooler on your pc running it completely fanless on like 85 celsius ingame, you can do that as well

Yeah Tommy, Acrylic panels and laser cutting is such a beautiful combo. Sure you can 3D print all of the brackets too, with varying strength depending on material, but acrylic sheets have such a pure gloss too them that's unmatched 👍

Have you considered threaded inserts or using the cnc to carve out the bolt shape to get them flush? Looking awesome!

That's an interesting idea, I do have a countersunk bit from the desk project, so I could do that with a drill press. For the style I'm after though, I like the exposed button heads and hardware. You'll see in part 2, I'm planning my design to show off even more bolts!

How cool is it?! I cut a 10mm square for fun, as it makes a 10mm cube. Crazy thing is my new xTool P2 machine can cut up to 20mm acrylic, I don't even know what I could do with 20mm.

That's so cool Aaron, Love that it's rack-mountable! I was originally looking at building into a rack mountable form factor so I could use a pelican rack mount hardcase for transport. May still in the future, but figured I'd start simple now. Custom water-cooling is something I look forward to trying in the future one day.

Ive always wanted to make a custom PC case and this is amazing so far The roadblock I had hit was the I/O shield dimensions, but you have made me realise I don't need to cut out an area exactly the same shape, but I can just go over it!

yeah I planned out an IO shield panel, then realised it wasn't needed for this motherboard. But in general, you can always make your own panels to put over it, or leave it off if it's an open build 🤙

Yes parametric CAD would make some of the modelling a lot easier. Currently trying out Ondsel which is a FreeCAD port, hoping it'll be a good free option.

I've considered them a lot, the reason I use the carbon fiber composite ones is to simply not scratch things. I'm always measuring little plastic objects from electronics, and fear if I uses aluminum I may accidentally scratch a plastic surface easier than with the composite calipers. Either way, I do need a better quality unit, mainly with one of those little wheels for fine adjustments.

Heya, If noise is such a concern for you than you know you need to do a lot more than to put a "barrier" in front of fans. First off, putting said barrier too close to the fans creates turbulence, as well as limiting airflow, so it's good that you have managed to avoid it in your final design. Second, obviously quieter fans are something that you are going to have to buy, i know people recommend Noctua for obvious reasons, but the brand Arctic sells similar performing fans, in White, at a much lower price. Lastly, and this is also important to noise, you wanna face your radiator with the tubes on the bottom, otherwise air bubbles might form causing more noise in the pump. I'm looking forward to the next part, and hope you read into these tips because it would feel great to have the community more involved in this project.

Hi CarbonPanther, Appreciate the feedback, yes a barrier won't stop the noise but deflecting sound away will at least reduce it by the time it reaches my ears from a 2nd or 3rd reflection point. I love the Noctua range, ran one of their coolers on a previous build, but yeah no white. Thank you for the suggestion, I'll have to checkout the Arctic range if the stock AIO ones are too loud. Great tip about the pump noise, I do know to ensure the pump is not at the top of the loop to reduce wear and noise. But I forgot that air trapped in the inlet side of the radiator could also make bubbling noises. I'll have to test it and see, as there currently isn't clearance for the pipes to be at the bottom as they'd hit the feet of the case. Looking forward to showing you the final part as to what ends up happening!

Inkscape is such a great tool for vector path editing, plus fun trick is to then import the SVG files into TinkerCAD if a custom shape extrusion is needed. 2020 is really well priced especially for how useful it is, adds up if you need a lot of it but for small projects, when you need some strength between 3D printed or lasercut paths, I'm loving it!

It's UNACCEPTABLE ! (/s, in case you don't read comments when they look negative) There are thousands of hours of content of people making PC build, if not milions ! Now how many of these are custom pc build? Alright, there's some, there's people even doing it 100% 3D printed. But how many videos on youtube, are there, of pc build using extrusion, laser cut acrylic, and that is open ? 11min and 11 second. This is unbearable. BALANCE NEEDS TO BE RESTORED ! We need more of this, we need thousands of hours of this ! If you next video isn't 1000h longs, I'll start a revolution ! On a more serious note, I simply love what you are doing, keep it up !

hahahaha Sttreg, look it did get my attention haha, mainly for the capital letters, but I do go down the comments one by one 😜 As for your question, 11min 11 seconds until I post the final part! haha. I haven't seen another project like this one, it may be out there, but I really wanted to lean into the way I built the desk by using accessible materials and methods. Sure you can get places to do sheet metal bending for you, but it is a lot easier to get lasercutting done, worst case, cut with a jigsaw and drill holes. So I'm hoping this project inspires others with the possibilites of what they can build with V-Slot hardware and at home manufacturing. As for other content, dude, I'll reference some of his work in part 2, but @Modsbybenq www.youtube.com/@Modsbybenq is absolutely incredible in the Custom PC space. He's 100% inspired a lot of this project, just in seeing what he does with 3D printing custom panels. Thanks for watching man 🤙

I bought the design files for your table, and am planning to make something very similar. I currently have a gaming PC that I'm *very* happy with, in a Fractal Define R7 case with no windows, sound insulation on all the side panels and front. It's very quiet (at full bung, it's quieter than my previous PC was at idle, and also way quieter than a single 5V PSU I have for my LED lights! What I'm aiming to do is use your desk as a basis, put some fixed 40/40 alu legs on, with 20/40 braces, and then build out a PC shelf under the desk for it, and possibly work in some cable routing solution at the back of the desk. Looks like about £150 - £200 for the aluminium for your parts list, with no extra hardware or acrylic or other bits costed yet Is your PC going to be on the desktop, or underslung? Or is that a surprise? 😃 Either way, it's looking good so far!

Nice work on making the PC silent, I remember when BeQuiet added acoustic foam to the inside of their panels, such a good idea. Under shelf for the PC would be perfect with V-Slot/T-Slot being able to make the shelf the perfect height. It'll go on the top right side, I've left the area empty as I knew one day I'd be putting a computer back there, finally the time has come haha.

Hello.. friendly idea here. I liked the appearances of the radiator in the frame at 10:45 into the film. any chance you might move the fans to the other side of the radiator so you done see the fan except for it's edges?

I did consider putting the fans on the inside, mixing between the push to a pull configuration of airflow. But when you see the final part you'll see the fans play a big role in the design aesthetic.

hey man. awesome as always! the setup is so so sick and your workshop is also becoming a real powerhouse. so amazing to see those thick crystal clear panels being cut! something else caught my eye today: is that a 5axismaker you've got there next to your xTool P2???? do you have/could you make some videos on it? i haven't seen you use it as far as i remember, but its an incredibly interesting machine that has intrigued me for years. their marketing and exposure are a bit limited. would love to see it in action if thats what it is you've got there, or whatever that beast is if its something else.

Appreciate you following the series, it's been really rewarding to see the desk and now PC come to life. Yes that is a 5XM, you're right minimal marketing is an understatement, so hard to find example use cases and finished products machined on it. I haven't used it yet, was gathering dust at a local business so I've inherited it to try and get it running with a somewhat simple workflow. So far my plans are to run it as 3 axis, and then explore tooling paths for 5 axis jobs in it's form factor.

Is there any worry of static buildup on these build materials? I'm not sure how sensitive everything would be but wouldn't want parts dying from something preventable.

Well given most PC Cases are metal frame with a clear acrylic window bolted on the side, I figured it'll al be fine 👍 Doesn't rule out EMI though, I'll have to see if the open frame design causes issues with nearby electronics after it's built. But my desk does have a lot of LED lights and unshielded electronics haha

Is there a reason you use tinkercad over something like onshape or fusion 360?

It's free, that's the main reason. Since KZfaq is my job that I earn money from I require commercial use licenses of any software that's paid. Tinkercad does the job as a great non-destructive privative shape modeler. For mesh modelling I use Blender, will be seeing some of that in the final part of this project. I have also started trying out Ondsel which is a Freecad port, as a more powerful free CAD option.

I would love to do the desk build but only the interface however the 3d model is one piece and I can not cut it. I would love help to either 3d print or make out of metal

So you want to make just the interface hub? that's not a bad idea, could be a 3D printable option. It been designed to work with V-Slot that's cut at multiple angles so that you have the screw in points. But a 3D Print only frame, could work, would need to add holes, or inset threads so that the acrylic panels can bolt into something.

yes! The Engine Start button in the desk will turn on the computer. The buttons in a PC Case wire into the motherboard, so I'm going to simply run wires from the desk over to the motherboard 🤙

Whoa that looks just like the Komp Case ITX-TOWER II. Those case layouts for sure inspired my placement, main issue was the ports out the top, so I've bought that very flexible riser cable to hopefully pull off a rear IO vertical GPU build.

yes I will see what the stock fans sound like, and then try some alternatives if there's audio issues. In reality, it'll be quieter than my laptop, so I'm excited for that at least!

I have an idea! (2 to be precise) Why don't you add a screen to the build like this kzfaq.info/get/bejne/mMWRoc1oxp2Wp30.htmlsi=YFXpTk0YiATEWKYS And you can make a table which can wireless charge anything, not only at a specific place but anywhere on the entire table and try to add touchsensor activated lights like the stars in the night

OMG, why V-Slot? That stuff's for 3d printers and costs 3times as much as regular 20mm Item or Bosch compatible T-SLOT extrusion! You want T-slot extrusion, not V-slot!
