Mark you've probably covered this already but is KZfaq your full time gig or do you have a full time job other than? Your videos have also helped me become a better installer on numerous levels.
@renaissanceman71459 ай бұрын
It's my understanding that he has a full time job outside KZfaq, which is car audio installs, teaching same and other like his website, for example.

Most people only watch a few videos to learn. Then they make their own and move on. He doesn't get enough views per video regularly to make a living off of yet. But it is a good amount. Tons of subscribers and some videos have a ton of views.

Have you ever had issues with putting the enamel straight onto the MDF without any primer? I tend to undercoat / sand with Zinnser BIN shalac primer, its not cheap but goes a long way and helps aid in a glass like finish once you add paint either acrylic or oil base enamel, I've also vinyl wrapped MDF using this priming step with wild results!!! love tuning in mate awesome work!!!

I'm very curious of the reasoning behind the equipment choices here. Is it mostly because it's a channel sponsor? It's been a while since I've seen single voice coil subwoofers picked for a build. It looks like you're probably planning to power them with that 1500.1. Is that correct? The specs say these subs are rated for 500w rms, are you planning to feed them under 400? (assuming the amp makes right at rated power) I might have missed it, but what's the net airspace and port tuning on this enclosure?

Mark what if someone mounted 8s or 12 in there rear deck with a sound deadening treatment and pine bored on top with the panel on top of that an a board under with like cone style surround

I don't build boxes so forgive if it's a stupid question. It looks like the back of the port is not as wide as the front. Would I be correct is assuming it is half the width of the front due to being only one side once it bends to the back ? Or is it actually the same and just an illusion ?

If it's happened before why wouldn't you adjust the measurements instead of cutting out bracing?
@CarAudioFabrication9 ай бұрын
It's a LIMITED space. You can't just magically make the box larger than what the vehicle would allow. And it's not actually an issue, I can easily remove the material as shown in the video.

Hello Mark , I have been following you for years now and I have been into car audio since 1985. I realize that I just aged myself but I’ll continue. I just purchased a 2010 Mini Cooper Clubman after my Insurance company decided to total out my prior car after hitting a deer. I’m contacting you because I am curious about what you would recommend to replace the factory stereo system in my Mini since part of the display and controls are built into the speedometer/everything else gauge. The car has the Harmon Kardon three way component speakers in the front and I believe that there are 6x9 speakers in the rear. The reason why I’m looking for your opinion is that in my previous car I was using four 15” subs and I loved it. The problem is the space is far less in my Mini Cooper but I still want to get the thunderous bass that I love. Any suggestions for me ?

@@CarAudioFabrication can you use a water base paint, or latex paint with no type of sealer for MDF? I've seen people say you need to use a sealer to keep it from swelling.

Mark I've watched lots of videos on painting MDF and can't find a lot of good info.. Is water based paint ok without using some type of sealer?
@bfisher3639 ай бұрын
MDF will work with multiple coats of water based/borne finishes without a problem. If you you want to cut down on finishing time, you may try glue-size which is a mix of PVA glue and water as a sealer, or you may try E-Z Vinyl Sealer by Mohawk/Behlen. Then apply your water based finish.
@jasonerosewrx9 ай бұрын
@@bfisher363 thanks for the input. Didn't know if it would swell being water based.

aaand a question! when using a overhand router like this in the vid, i have one, and 10/10 times i use it, that damn bit gets thrown into outer space more or less! i dont bottom out the bit in the chuck, and i torque it until the plastic parts starts making cracking sounds in the router (too hercules tight in my opinion). Starting it, it works okay, but after like 30s of cutting, the bit flyes away and i get andgry again, and use whatever else i can find in the garage to finish the project....
@bfisher3639 ай бұрын
Are you referring to the flush cuts around the 7:30 mark? If so, make sure your router base is stable and use the right hand trick (if you point your thumb at the edge you want to cut, your index finger points in the direction you need to cut/move the router in). As for the cutter depth in the collet... always leave around 1/8" (3mm) between the shank and the bottom edge of the cutter when tightening the bit in the collet.

Great vid Mark. Anyone or Mark, been out of building enclosures for a couple of decades, built 'um for a couple of decades ;) I know a lot has changed, but the principals are all still there. Wanna build an enclosure for a home, slot ported single 12". Have the thiele/small parameters around my desk somewhere. Can anyone point to some software now that I can input my specs and space allotment and it will spit out the tune/pieces to cut etc? Thanks a bunch, been watching Mark for years. Cheers.
