Happy to see my Hammer Time sticker is still there. The students used to stop, get out of the truck and do the Hammer dance as they switched drivers.

My father joined the Navy prior to WWII as a turret mechanic on a battleship. His mechanical acumen with diesels became known and he was made a Seabee. He saw alot of action in the war and became highly decorated. Most Seabees during the war were older men with technical skills.

While literally a boy he learned how to overhaul an engine, drive a dozer, and trust his judgement. We tend to coddle our children. I say give them challenges. You'd be amazed by what they're capable of.

I really miss the Seabees. My first time away from home and I was proud to be a Fighting Seabee. I joined in 1981. Saw the movie at the Museum. Port Hueneme was a great place for training. Spent free time at the beach.

Petty Officer, with all due respect, The Fighting Seabees will NEVER be outdated! My dad, a retired EOC from NMCB-25, gets up at 0300 to watch that movie if it's on.

Was fortunate to meet some WWII Seabees that actually helped pave the way at IWA Jima (SP) for the Marines. A great generation it was. It was an honor to meet them and listen to them. Your grandfather is a great American and this retired Seabee salutes him

Do Seabees still go to Shepard AFB for training? I was a Marine going to school at Shepard in 1996. One day it snowed and the roads were icy. The Seabee instructors gave us a ride to class in their 5 Ton truck. #myassridesinnavyequipment 😎🤪

Pretty much the same as that and the engineers in the Air Force. Not sure if you all did combat training though. And it was cool that while everyone else wore Navy dungarees we wore our greens.

My late father was in the Army 116th Combat Engineer on the island of Tanna in WWII. The CO addressed them in formation one day and told them they were going to welcome a company of Seabees for training. Dad always spoke highly of them. They helped build two hospitals, bridges where needed and fought malaria. I wanted to be a Seabee but washed out in basic with a stomach full of ulcers.

Fort lost in the woods looks a lot different than it did in 99. I wonder how long my old barracks room was out of commission after my roommate flooded it.

@stemmentor97003 жыл бұрын
Port Hueneme has changed since then. I went to A school there in 79, 2 battalions in PH later. Recall being in them cattle cars being hauled to the back areas of the base. Crazy EOs and CMs loved to get folks going with their driving. Lol. Good memories. This old EA learned one thing the hard way. Wait for a ride instead of riding in back of dump truck on dirt road. Man, I got thrown around like crazy. (They warned me) but seriously think they hit every pothole they could. EAs know how to get even. It’ll never forgot that 20 min beating.
