Building Short, Hinged Switch Points

Some special trackwork, such as the complex lapped turnout shown in this video, requires switch points that are hinged. This is the only way to get short switch points to freely pivot.
This video shows a technique I have developed to produce very free moving switch points using spikes soldered to the points inserted into the throwbar.

I know this is 11 years old, but that complex junction is remarkable. I'd love to see how it ended up and where exactly, it was used!

I remove the cladding on the PC board used for the throwbar tie. I etch off the copper using etchant, however, it can easily be sanded off. I just rely on a friction fit to keep it in place once installed on the layout.

Why not use this "spikes in the throwbar" system even on conventional turnouts where the point, closure rail and wing rail are one solid piece? Seems to me this would be less rigid than soldering the points directly to the copper cladding on the throwbar.

So if you were to build this turnout on the workbench, the throwbar would fall out? What attaches the throwbar to the spikes? Is it a friction fit? Are you removing the copper cladding on the PC tie, or can you buy the PC board material without the copper? thanks for sharing
