This is Part 3 of my multi-video series showing you how I made my Paulk Workbench! This workbench was designed by Ron Paulk who has a ton of experience with contracting and woodworking, and his design represents his knowledge of both great utility and mobility. The two-part top allows it to fit in a van or a truck, and makes it easy to move around the shop or take on site. It’s also incredibly sturdy! I documented my entire build and I’m excited to bring you this comprehensive and instructional multi-part video series on how to make it! Great idea taking Ron Paulk's workbench a step further and incorporating your Dewalt table into his design. I have a small/shop garage and always looking how to get more use out of less space. I watch Ron's videos a lot because of his use of a track saw... every morning I watch two or three woodworking videos to try and pick up ideas and by the way good video and sound!!!

Great job!! Thanks for posting this. I ended up building a simple rolling cart myself instead of a shelf. That way I can just shove it out of the way real quick if I want to use that end for another purpose. Well...that was one reason. The other reason was I couldn't quite figure out the best way to adapt the Paulk Bench plans to a different saw than Paulk used. I probably saved a little bit of work since I never used the pipes and didn't add pipe supports inside, but this way is a better space saver. Thanks for the great videos!!

Well, watched all of your videos for the Paulk workbench and I've got say it was an absolutely excellent job of both filming and explanation. Next Spring when the warmer weather returns, I plan to build the same, but I may well leave the dog holes out of one of the torsion boxes - screws, nuts, washers, nails etc are forever rolling down them on my existing worktop so keeping one half clear of holes will keep the air less blue when assembling. Subscribed and pressed that bell.

Great job . I built the paulk work bench and put it on castors it is a great set up. I also built the Ron paulk miter saw station with saw horse legs. It works great.

It's unlikely that I'll ever build the Paulk workbench, but the outfeed table is such an awesome use of space! I might incorporate this design on a 2x4 framed work bench. Thanks for sharing!

@@diywithandrew Good timing- Just built my bench and started the table saw shelf last night! I ended up just framing a "box" out of 3/4" ply instead of using the retractable rod system. It makes sense in my application, because the saw will be stored in that spot and the bench is staying the in the garage. Thanks for sharing your build and ideas!

I ended up with 2 table saws because the base of one got a bit mangled. I think I'm going to tear it off and use it for this application. Then, the new one with the good base can be my worksite saw. This is really awesome.

I'm a fan of Ron Paulk and really luv this design. FYI: I noticed you had a bit of room on the top of your Table that holds the Table Saw and thought it might be possible to add a bit of extensions to that area should the need arise and depending on the material used. Granted the Table Saw is centered on the Station but sometimes I've run into situations where a bit of extension could be useful. Just a thought... Cheers...

Like this and thinking about build the Paulk bench for my garage shop. For leveling the saw I'm thinking about using 4 grub screws, similar to what you might use to level a throat plate on a saw or a router plate, inserted into the notched wood pieces which sit on top of the pipes.

Awesome work, on the side of your 745 fence there should be a section of fence you can flip over which give you a shim to pack it up to the same height as the top of the saw for when you have the fence extended. I saw on one of your cuts you weren't using it, might make things easier.

Maybe I worry too much, but I would definitely consider putting some steel or aluminum bracing on the bottom of the table saw holder, as well as extending the blocks that rest on the pipes on the inside (or maybe a cross bar to make it a more complete box?). The first to keep the shelf from breaking off if you're working on something heavy, the second to keep the walls from bowing out over time.

Very nice job. What are you doing for dust collection? Just bring a vac nearby and connect to the back of the table saw when you need it? Something more permanent under the table?

Thank you! I attached a hose to the saw and rest it on the inside of the saw horse to hook up to my shop vac when its time make some dust. Hope that helps!

@@diywithandrew Just finished my Paulk Smart Bench build and playing with Dewalt table saw alignment. The dust port exhaust hits right on the bottom of the table. Serious hose bending required. Looks like you solved this by creating space between saw and workbench?

Just built this last week, & yes there was sag. I used 28mm stainless steel poles. Going to incorporate an adjustable leg to level up. Also noticed the sable saw moves as I use my sled so going to set some pieces with grooves for the saw to sit in to sturdy it up

i feel like the saw may slide on the poles and jam the rear fence onto the bench, did u install something on the poles or cradle to stop the saw sled sliding on the poles maybe a locking pin? as its all easy to disassemble I might make it so poles pull out to make bench lighter when moved, still looks more stable then those scissor table saw stands that dewault make

Thanks for the comment and I understand the concern there. Because of the weight of the saw and the stand, there has never been movement with the stand on the poles in almost 4 years of use. If anything, I think there could be stoppers placed on the bottom of the saw stand/tray to keep the saw itself from sliding on the wood stand/tray. I’ve had that happen a few times. But as far as any issues with the poles, I’ve never had any. Once I pull them out and place the saw stand and saw on it, it has stayed firm until I’m done. Also a quick tip, whenever I have moved the workbench myself, being able to reach inside and move it by holding the poles inside has been very helpful. Good luck on your project!

What is the suggestion for the end of the pipes when the shelf is on to keep it from sliding off? This may not be an issue but I have a preventative mindset...want to avoid injury or cost of needing a new table saw if it were to fall off.

Great question! I have had no issue with that. The two reasons are because it is 1) pretty heavy between the stand and the saw weight on the bars so it doesn't really slide or move at all and 2) I'm never pulling "towards" myself, and only toward the workbench which means there is no risk of pulling the stand off of the pipe. But that is my mindset and set up. Hope that makes sense.

I am pretty sure I did 1 1/2 inch holes. I wanted just enough slide but not much play.

I will have to find out whether it will support the weight or not. Noone want to see the saw falling to the floor while cutting wood. But the pipe option will be on my list now 😉

so basically, the weight of the table saw sits on a floorboard that has just glue and upwards screws into side boards that hang off the bar handles with just glue and screws... the DWE745 is 45 pounds... i have the DWE7492 which is around 57 ponds; do you think this construction is strong enough to hold that? thanks for your thoughts.

I was very excited about adding this to my new bench, but there are a number of steps in the video such as the galvanized pipes that are not mentioned in the plans. I'm surprised at this because I have downloaded other youtubers much more detailed plans for free. Why are these steps missing from plans that cost money? Reply

I found it quite ironic that the Paulk workbench was created, at least in part, to store tools and leave the table top free of clutter. That didn't appear to be the case when assembling this table saw shelf. Great videos nontheless.

Interesting observation! I hadn't thought about that but also I think that a new 'work flow' takes time to master. I found myself forgetting I had all that room underneath to utilize because for years I only had a flat top workbench. Thanks for commenting!
