I agree but I like how he goes people take this way too seriously it's all about having fun. I've been modelling my whole life and it's about relaxation and now since I've been out of the military it kind of helps me take the edge off and relax. Thanks again Andy keep it up at love your Channel.. from one of the mediocre modelers.

The resemblance to the KV series is not a accident. The designer Josef Kotin designed the SMK to meet a 1937 requirement. Kotin also designed a single turret vehicle with a shorter hull. The shorter vehicle met with approval and was adopted as the KV-1. IIRC there were three tanks sent to Finland for combat testing. The SMK, the T-100, and a KV prototype. SMK hit a mine and was disabled. It was so heavy the Soviets were not able to retrieve it for two months. The T-100 was not reliable and had very poor reliability and was not adopted. The SMK didnt do much better. The stand out performer was the shorter hull single turret vehicle based on the SMK. This vehicle did well and was adopted as the KV-1.

Small correction, the KV tanks were actually a parallel design to the SMK from the same design bureau, instead of the SMK being designed from the KV tanks.

The detail of the SMK is good, it's the paint job that brings out that detail. You use tried and true idea on each of your builds which make it a lot easier to do. Thanks again Andy for letting us in on the build so we can listen to what you are doing step by step.

Wow, Andy, that is a cool looking vehicle. As you mentioned, the tracks dont look too bad. When you do them one piece and only leave one linkl open, you might try to do that at the peak of the sprocket, that way the links get pulled together and into place once you finally monte them. Did that on several tanks now with a great result. Even on sprockets with larger teeth like T-55 for instance.

If you ever lose the clear lenses or don’t like them, the easiest thing to do is paint the inside of the light bucket a bright silver and mix up some five minute clear epoxy and add a drop of it into the bucket, enough to fill it and let dry and you’ll have a great headlight

The KV1 is based on the SMK, not the other way around. The SMK was a called project, but the turret got it's use in the later KV1 built by the same people who made the SMK, at Kirov's factories.

Love it! Alltought it was kinda stoopid idea 4 a tank (imagine to be the commander and give directions to the driver, tell him to stop every time a turret have to open fire, load your main gun, be aware of the battlefield...), it still looks fearsome... Very glad you did choose that model. I was hopping to see you building it when you show us the new lot... Great job, as allways!

This tank was really used in Finnish Winter War,but got one hit into tracks and game was over...Funny thing was ,that this tank stayed in place till the end of war ,because like Russians,so even Finnish had not so powerful tow truck to tow it away...after war was towed and scrapped..

Andy, what type of thinner do you use with Tamiya panel liner for weathering? I had clear coated a project with testors spray dull coat and then tried using some testors thinner (the little glass bottles) and Tamiya panel liner to weather but it ended up causing my base paint coat to strip

Nicely done as always, but just a quickie query; you used to gloss coat before decals to minimise silvering, now you matt coat. Why is that. I thought the silvering was predominantly caused by decals going on to a ‘rough’ surface (matt coat being microscopically rough compared to gloss) and air being trapped between the decal and surface; do the latest ‘sets’ and ‘sols’ alleviate this issue?
@crackerbarrel6965

Interesting - so you laid the decals over a flat clear coat and not a gloss clear coat. No problems with silvering?
