Building the Ultimate "Toy Hauler" Pt. 1!

A go kart hauling trailer is something we've wanted to build for a long time, and today, we finally make it happen! Using scrap pieces of metal shipping containers, a trailer hitch receiver and accessories, and some wheels and tires from Go Power Sports, we build a very capable and lightweight trailer! We test the trailer out by dropping a fully dressed small block Chevy V8 on it (over 600lbs!) and pull it behind our 550cc Little Tikes Cozy Coupe go kart. For being a 10,000 RPM CB550 motorcycle engine, the Tot Rod go kart tows very well!

I really like this show. Instead of a huge shop with 10s of thousands in tools and project cars most people can’t afford they show you how to do stuff that could be done by an average guy. It’s a good motivation to learn fab skills.

You guys should look for a cbr 1000 rr that you can rob the engine off, and revive the drag rail with it. That would be cool to run at the drag strip.

When I was a kid we got a lazy boy at goodwill and some snow skis made the sled chair it was a blast but a pain to haul back up the hill

Trailers are Designed with Flex in Mind. Ever see an empty flatbed behind a Semi? Like an Arch Bridge. Put your axle a bit behind center and It'll Be Fine!

you guys should try steel-it , its a primer you can weld through/on because there is stainless in it! its a great cheap solution and covers everything!

You should have put the axle about 4 inches further back. Keeps it from weaving if you have to carry something that weighs more towards the rear. I don't suppose though, that that will be the case. I remember a friends boat trailer. Axle was midway. Trailer was not made for his boat which was a straight six Chevy 250 w/stern drive. Tongue weight was almost nothing. I think it may have been slightly negative. Weaved like crazy. Yes, this is just a little itty bitty "garden tractor" trailer. That may be going 70!! It'll Be Fine. Just keep John's "Throne" forward of the axle. :-)

575 pounds The identical external measurements made the 400 SBC readily interchangeable with other Chevy engines, such as the 350 CID small block engine, across many of the Chevy and GMC truck and Chevrolet car lines. Engine weight was also similar at about 575 pounds.

If you want it to pull straight make sure the measurement from the Hitch (mark a spot on top of where the 1 7/8 ball would be) to the end of each Hub and if they are the same the Trailer will pull straight , if they are not the same it will try to pull to the side and wear the tires quicker

The wood will increase the structural integrity. If you rivet them in place you'll have a very strong mechanical advantage. Or in simple terms it will take the spring away and make it last longer.

A little bit of flexing isn't necessarily a bad thing in this case. A little bit of give in the frame will keep the load from over-stressing the rest of the frame. Even the trailer for semis have some flex built into them on purpose just for that reason.

Speaking of go karts and big engines, saw your clean ass Chevy Chevette sitting outside there! Should drop a nice aluminum headed 406 sbc in that little baby! Talk about a sick ride!! I've been in one fully caged and tubbed with a nasty 355 roller motor 4500 stall with a glide and let me tell you with a set of 356 gears and a light weight car, you did everything you could not to throw up from the acceleration on the back wheels! Just got to cage them well being a unibody of course, watched a guy blow the rear window out and wrinkle the roof of one that was a half fast job with a mild sbc! IDK just a stupid thought lol. Otherwise as always, an awesome video guys keep it up! We love to see you playing! I mean workin! LMAO! 👍
