In this episode, we got to explore the Suncor Base Mine and compare some of the largest trucks on Earth.
Witness the process of oil sand mining from start to finish as we journey through the shovel pit, analyze the extraction process, and observe how these massive trucks carry their loads to the crusher for processing. We got to see how these mechanical beasts work in harmony to support our oil-dependent world.
Special thanks to Suncor for showing us around. Hope you enjoy and learn something new along the way! #mining #construction #heavyequipment

People don’t realize how big of deal this is and it’s a testament to what the buildwitt guys are doing. Suncor doesn’t let anyone in to film and document their operations. Instead of vilifying them like many publications do he actually shows a positive picture

@@AaronWitt Have you talked with CAT about doing a tour of the 797 plant in Decatur IL ? Only place in the world they're produced. They also make the 777 trucks, and the 800 series compactors along with the bigger frame grades and a few other things. Facility in Decatur is something like 125 acres, and theres also a huge Dozer plant 2 hr away in Peoria IL, along with a Komatsu plant in Peoria as well

What does the dispatcher do?
@72lololol
@72lololol Жыл бұрын
@@AHomelessDorito Dispatchers use a program to essentially tell the trucks where they need to go. The dispatchers goal is to optimize the amount of trucks they need per each shovel to never have a shovel waiting without a truck being there. They also need to make sure the hoppers/plant is getting the correct blend of material so they can optimize how they extract the oil from the sand. So when Aaron went into the truck and shows off that panel that said the operator had 19 minutes left of their lunch break that was the Modular dispatch panel (Modular is just the brand of panel and the makers of the dispatch program there are also others such as WENCO). On that panel the operator will get a message telling them to go to X shovel or X hopper/dump.

@@72lololol What kind of autonomy is used on the self-driving truck and how does it work with your dispatch system?
@72lololol
@72lololol Жыл бұрын
@@philipwallstedt5685 I worked in the manned operations so i am not an expert on the topic, but Suncor uses Kamatsu's AHS system the way it works is essentially there are 2 different programs running Modular Dispatch and Frontrunner. Frontrunner being the system used to actually control the AHS trucks. But the trucks are pretty well fully autonomous the way it works is by supervisors in the pits drawing lines for the haul trucks then the haul trucks using their super precise GPS systems will stay exactly on those lines. They also have a whole array of cameras and lidar on the front and back of the truck where they will sense nearby objects and stop if needed. But they fully back up to the shovel and dumps and will dump off on their own. @Aaron Witt just released a video on them as well that talks about them a little further.

I was in the mining industry running equipment off and on for almost 30 years and I drove Hall trucks anywhere’s from a 35 ton up to a 290 ton Haul Truck some had sidewall’s or skirts that the mining company adds to the truck after they purchased it so in all actuality a triple 7 is an 85 ton truck made by cat which is an awesome truck that I drove for many years in the beginning of my career, in the end I was driving 290 ton trucks and the reason why it ended is cause I am now almost fully blind. I got glaucoma, but it is what it is. I Loved That part of my life as an equipment operator it was the best part of my life other than my wife and kids of course. I’ve only mind copper and gold All my Mine experience has been in Nevada. But this is the first time watching this channel I’m going to subscribe and thumb’s it up and continue watching. So keep up the good work boys. …late…

What people don't know is that millions of years ago that Bitumen layer was the ocean floor. The Bitumen is what's left over from the organic matter left behind. The water sand he's talking about is actually million year old sea water trapped under ground. Before they can open up new ground and remove the over burden they drill deep wells and pump the sea water out for months sometimes year before mining!

I visited the Syncrude mine back in 1984. At that time they were mining the bitumen with massive draglines and windrowing the bitumen in to large windrows. The windrows were picked up by a large wheel excavator, much like the ones you see in German coal mines, and placed on to a conveyor belt and taken to crusher and the processing plant. That method fell out of favour due to the corrosive nature of the sand on the conveyor belt. Syncrude changed to the shovel/trucking method seen here sometime in the early 90's. Great video!

They've had Autonomous Haul Trucks for over 10 years. They put Cabs on the Trucks so you can go with or without a driver. Australia uses alot Autonomous trucks its only been the last few years that it's allowed in US. John Deere had Greenstar 20 years ago where tractors could plow Autonomous but Farmers didn't want it because they liked to do the plowing themselves.

Thank you so,so much for field trip to (Oil Sands mining ⛏️) you "ROCK" my best U-Tube videos friend. Your explanation of the whole process of separation of messy "OIL" is the best. That shovel operator has to get an A+ in my Humble opinion for seeing that Rock with Dinosaurs preserve, that operator needs reqignishion big time for History preservation. The things people don't understand about OIL SANDS mining ⛏️ is the company is cleaning the earth, plus providing natural resources to POWER are world. That ground is contaminated, the mining and cleaning up sands, returning what's left, makes the mine cleaner than before mining started. You are the greatest for videos and speaking about the big equipment that it takes, the big super size machines must get their lower works just grinded on 24/7 with that oil/sand mix, high maintenance required.

This Bucyrus is huge, but imagine that On minexpo 2000 Bucyrus international announced new electric rope shovel. Model 795B with bucket capacity 135 tons per pass,. It will be able to cut bank heights up to 22.8 m and will offer a cutting radius of 26.6 m. Operational weight of the machine 2041 metric tons.(More than WK-75 or P&H 4800 currently two largest rope shovels in production) but sadly after CAT buy Bucyrus they canceled this model and now not have plans to shovels larger than 7495, this is very sad, WK 75 and 4800XPC is two kings for now
