Bulbul is not just a revenge story its a masterpiece showing atrocities against women in our society and how if she will cross the so called line of limit drawn by the society she will be considered witch she didn't only kill her enemies but also evil devils present in the society and hence she was also considered as devi by some people bulbul is more than merely a divine revenge story

Also, Indronil shatters the same feet mercilessly, he wanted to give freedom to by asking his wife to wear shoes. ( As in those days, women were not allowed to wear shoes). Such brilliant writing.

For me the scene I cried was her struggle to save her life. She was not giving up. She jumped from branches on tree to survive. And then she stands and look around everything is turning in to ashes. Fire ate up forest. Scared and in pain, crying in silent she dies!

Happy to see the atrocities Indian women face , finally being addressed by the film industry . Most of us can see little slivers of our own lives in the scenes . Hats off to the women and men behind this movie .

Her sister in law was one of the instigators, who added fuel to fire. Women subjugating other women to torture is sad to say the least. This is an aspect that needs to get highlighted & rectified, at the societal level, at the earliest. The review is structured & gripping. I wasn't planning to watch this movie because it seemed to be around a supernatural theme - a genre I don't quite enjoy watching but I am glad I saw this video essay. My dear review, this movie has to be unique as the story is based on KADOMBARI DEVI'S SUICIDE NOTE( who was RABINDRANATH TAGORE'S sister in law) & Tagore's novel CHOKHER BALI. Just churel part is added. I think any Bengali can easily find the connection.

I’ve watched Bulbbul around 6-8 times, and each time without fail I notice something new, whether it be the veiled meaning of dialogue, or a subtle, but deliberate set design choice. Leave it to Bollywood to chastise and leave poor reviews on a film that is so revolutionary, so beyond anything this cesspool of an industry has ever produced. Look through Indian cinema, and you will not find anything that even comes close to Bulbbul. One of the main complaints of critiques were that “the story was predictable, we already knew she was the chudail.” Little do these idiots realize that this story isn’t positioning itself to be full of twists and turns. It gives you the answers immediately - the point is to simply go on this breathtaking visual journey, and experience the beauty and pain from Bulbbul’s eyes. It is predictable in the same way the life of a woman is predictable, she is bound to be hurt. Bulbbul is quite literally the South Asian version of Pan’s Labyrinth. It incorporates Bengali culture, Bengali ghost stories, the story of a girl all in one - but of course this film will never receive that acclaim because it was directed by a woman, and tells the story of a brown woman, of sexual assault, of subjugation, things that still occur today that nobody wants to see. This is the only film that does the imagery of Kali Ma justice. Kali Ma raises Bulbbul to hurt the men that hurt women and children. It is not pretty, but deeply violent - and effective - but of course, the violence and extent of feminine rage is continually underestimated. Not to mention, the soundtrack is genuinely one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever heard. As a Bengali, Bulbbul is my Joker. There will never be another like it. It is the closest I have seen to a perfect film. It will forever be my favourite film.

Just a thing, the painting shown when Indranil is beating Bulbbul is by Raja Ravi Varma, it's called Jatayu Vadham. Symbolising Indranil as Raavana clipping the feathers. This story is the real story of Kadambari mahendranath Tagore. Isme Satya ..... Rabindranath Tagore hai. It's just , writer has extended the story by writing a little more about the revenge... So that he can escape from copyright ng at the same time .. give some masala touch to the end of the story.
