It is a well acted scene, I can’t knock it. The guys hiding behind the rocks probably could have mopped up that entire attacking force if they had better weapons and perhaps some explosives. I thought the wounded man would perhaps pop up and draw an enemy volley, giving his friends some time to reload, maneuver, or retreat. But they just gave him a coup de grace. But again, a well done battle scene.

disagree with some comments. The Ottoman army operates completely according to the statutes of its time. the British infantry also behaved in the first Boer War - tactics of company columns with firing volleys from stops. at the time of these events indicate as rebel caps rifles (muzzle-loading), as well as Morgan-Henry rifles from one rebel and Turkish infantry. a blow at bayonets at a ban to move faster than 75 steps per minute? from a distance of 100 meters? This was after Verdun in the First World War, when it became clear that the network needed to quickly cross the no man’s land. even in 1915, the British infantry went on the attack in full growth, with a step (the officers stopped trying to duck or go to the run - they maintained their alignment in the line) it was this weakness of building with the rate of fire of weapons and caused unjustifiably large losses of the British in the Transvaal, the Turks are organized and disciplined conduct the offensive, and the Bulgarians, using the tactics of the Boers, they shoot. but considering that the film shows only one Martin-Henry rifle from the Bulgarians, two twin-barreled guns and a rifled musket charging from the barrel - there are doubts about such excellent shooting. first they must shoot at a shorter distance than the Turks, round bullets without pyzhe and conical drilling of the barrel. second, the success of the actions of the Boers directly depends on the Mauser rifles on their weapons - without these rifles, this effect was given by long-barreled muskets for hunting snipe. the Bulgarians have only two rifles with rifled barrels the rest of the 19th century trash with muzzle loading and spherical bullets and even with short barrels - where does the sniper accuracy from each shot come from? here realism gives way to propaganda, which is expected, but like in all such films, it diminishes the heroism of turning it into a circus ...

@@mihel1640 No, I'm saying that this tactic lasted in the infantry until the First World War. Martini-Henries, conversion rifles used by the British African colonial forces during the Zulu War, this is sometime in the 1860s. Before the Liberation campaign of Emperor Alexander 2 (Russian-Turkish war of 1877-1878), the Turks reformed the army and made mass purchases of new weapons, so they did not have their own production. The British sold them the very rifles with which problems were revealed in Africa.The French trained officers and soldiers in European battle tactics. Considering that following the results of the Liberation Campaign, Bulgaria became independent, the events of the film cannot be later than 1878.

@kry kry Well movies are never going to be objective story telling. I always see everyone bitching and moaning about a inaccurate movie scene or calling it "propaganda". They are ment to be good stories. Braveheart is historically a mess but it is a fun movie to watch as the epic poem of William Wallace is mostly fictional but would have been fun for a Scottish person to read. Of course people will take it at face value but it is the historian's job to deal with the products of that. I imagine this was made for Bulgarians to watch and have some pride and fun with the story of their people. So whenever someone is complaining next to you while you are watching a movie remember to say "it's just a fucking movie.".
@antiochusiiithegreat77215 жыл бұрын
@kry kry Well I would argue not to look for the side that had "moral superiority" in history. I mean I see it as different groups just looking out for their self interests. I mean the only war we Americans fought against Ottomans were against the Ottoman Vassals of the barbary states over shipping rights. Then again most of the mercenaries our marines hired were Turks themselves. Was there a moral side to this war? Not really just powers looking out for their own self interests.
@antiochusiiithegreat77215 жыл бұрын
@kry kryThe only thing you can do is make your own movies from a Turkish perspective. Ultimately movies made by former enemies and subjugated people will not be complementary of the Turks.

@Accelerated We were conquered for 500 years. During that time, we were basically helpless due to the lack of armaments to defend ourselves. There were many "yeni çeri" who were basically soldiers taken by force by the ottomans at an early age and separated from families. They, later on, were given land by the sultan which they manage and profit from. They would have bulgarian slaves to work the land for them for little or no pay at all. Even though there was significantly low chance of success, there were MANY revolts and independence attempts throughout the whole time. The attempts were then avenged by the ottomans by slaughtering the civilian populace including children and women. The European press and NY times even talked about some of those atrocities but the countries never did anything about it. In the end, the russians knew that they would find a lot of support against the ottomans in their war effort in the Balkans, so they sent troops to reinforce our liberation efforts and we fought for our indepence against uneven ottoman regular army forces coming in to crush us.

THIS IS AN EPISODE FROM THE 2017 BULGARIAN MOVIE, "HEIGHTS" ("UPLANDS") = "VUZVISHENIE." The movie is based on real events that transpired in 1872, and is dedicated to the struggle of the Bulgarian patriots for freedom and independence from Ottoman Turkey. The Empire of Bulgaria was set up in the 624--681 period, but was destroyed by the Turks in the 1396--1417 period. It was resurrected with Christian Russia's help in 1878. I shall not comment on the quality of this battle scene. Please keep in mind that the tactics adhered to by the Ottoman Turkish Army and other militaries of the 19th century was VERY DIFFERENT compared to modern methods of warfare. We should not forget that the Sunni Muslim Turks have slaughtered or taken away as slaves over 150 million Christian civilians (Armenians, Bulgarians, Greeks, Serbians, Croatians, Russians, Romanians, Hungarians, etc.) between the 1070's and 1920's. Among them were 20 million Christian Bulgarian civilians (including some of my relatives in Macedonia), who became victims of the Turks between the 1340's and 1920's. The contemporary ISLAMIST Turks are dreaming of resurrecting the Ottoman Turkish Empire (1299--1923), which was built on the dead bodies of millions of non--Turks and non--Muslims. Greetings to all TRUTH--LOVERS from an American descendant of ethnic Bulgarians from the region of Macedonia and Pirot!
