God bless, I’ve been there when waiting for a back surgery and was in bed for ten months, it’s important to keep moving your ankles and legs and whatever you can do while in bed to keep your strength if possible. I hope you will recover your health and wish many blessings over you. It’s amazing to watch this KZfaq channel and I watch a lot of other homesteading channels as well. Take care and just wanted you to know I’ve had some experience of what you are going through. Take care and if you haven’t tried adult coloring I highly recommend it. It was a very relaxing activity for me and brought a lot of color into each day. 🥰❤️🙏🏻🇨🇦🍁

I love the idea of canning this without sauce! I can imagine using it of course with BBQ sauce, but also making it into enchiladas with red or green sauce, fajita bowls, onions & peppers with Italian seasoning, mixing into stir fry, or quick chili, etc.

My grandparents had a couple little houses on their farm as the oldest sons got married. They were called the “Weaning House”. My mom was the youngest of thirteen children. She was born in 1935. Each son was given a milk cow as a wedding gift. Love the idea of continuing that tradition.

One of my favorites: center cut pork roast, pour apple butter or apple pie filling or applesauce with blueberry chutney or pie filling on top of roast.along with some Dijon mustard. Add small amount of chicken stock, salt and pepper. Roast in oven 20 minutes per pound. Serve with mashed potatoes and turn drippings, sauce and whatever else is left in pan pour over sliced pork. It’s so good

I've been following Bunkie Life for years now. We'd love to have a couple on our property in the future too. Only issue is our municipality isn't keen on short term rentals. And yet they ask the community their opinions on how to bring more tourists to the area with zero places to stay. Thanks for always being so inspiring!

I like to pulled pork for sandwiches. But I cut my roast in half (if it's big), add some spices, put it in my Instant Pot for 90 minutes with 2 cups of water, let it naturally release for 15 minutes, pull it out and it will shred like a dream. I then put it in a pot on the stove and add my BBQ sauce. Thinking about makes me want to make some this week. lol

Jessica at three rivers homestead. She has eight children. That she home schools. When she empties jars. When she has seven or nine jars. That are empty. She does something to put in those jars and they go down to the cellar. So in other words she does not have empty jars. I think it's a great idea. And she can everything. Nobody can have any dairy. Or peanuts. She can't have wheat. . But she's always making jelly. She's always working.

Chelsea - yes, sticker shock on canning jars is a thing. I'm just about one half hour South of Seattle here in Washington State. Thank heaven I stocked up on jars long ago and still have plenty available.

I'm currently clearing out freezers and pressure canning venison from a few years of meat. It is such a good way to use lean meat! I call it stew meat, some people call it cube meat, but it's good for lots of things. Getting ready to hopefully get more meat this fall. The canned meat will be handy for some of the things that may happen soon, just in case.

Living off the land, in my opinion is the best way to live and enjoy life. I wanted to also share a tip with you. You had talked about certain smells can last for days. My gramma, after a day of heavy canning or preserving, depending on what it was, she would about a cup of distilled vinegar on to boil. It took any strong smells out of the atmosphere. Just a trick she taught me years ago. It works well especially for the stonger smells

I was drooling over all that pulled pork, my absolute favorite meat! Recently had it with sweet potatoes and cole slaw. So glad to hear you want to make some onion jam, but even better is Bacon onion jam! When I finish making it I use a hand blender to make it more of a spreading "jam" consistency. Excellent on meatloaf, grilled cheese sandwiches, baked potatoes, pizza, potato pancakes. etc! Thank you for sharing your excellent canning info and homestead updates. (I even dice the onions for my french onion soup as I see no sense in have a long piece of hot onion possible smacking you on the chin when you eat it, lol)

Nice job on the pulled pork. But, I have a suggestion for you! I make a ton of pasties every year - so chopping onions, yeah, I get you. But!!! I purchased a vegetable chopper from Amazon - if you google vegetable chopper, many will show up and I love it! I cut the onions into maybe quarters or a tad smaller and put it in the chopper and slam down the top and voila! Chopped onions! I do the carrots and potatoes that way as well. Mine is older - but it looks to me like any of the current offerings will work the same - you don't need the real expensive ones, at least I have never seen the need for it. In my book, that little kitchen tool is a game changer.

I highly recommend a commercial meat slicer for both onions (French onion soup & other caramelized onion recipes) I’ll include a link, but I got mine from a restaurant liquidator. (Couple $100 or so) i also was able to use it to thinly shave raw frozen meat for stir fry and on roasted and well chilled for deli style sandwich meat. I like the roaster better than my multiple crockpot method for sweating onions ❤

Snow fall is expected to be anywhere between 10-20 cm (4-8 inches) in the next 24 hours and temps of -8 to -12 C during the day (17F- 20F) and in the minus teens at night time.
