Bulletproof For BJJ

Күн бұрын

Have you felt a bit down at Jiu-jitsu? Feel like you are in a slump? BJJ presents many challenges physical and mental. Life can throw a lot of challenges at you but what do you do when BJJ is getting you down.
You are training hard, fighting through injuries, taking beatings and struggling to fit in with team mates. Some days you are gonna suck and it can make you feel dark.
How do you handle it mentally is important.
JT & Joey discuss how to deal with the mental trial and tribulations that are part of the BJJ journey. Having an approach to deal with bad days is the key to staying in the game and not over thinking, so you can get out of your head and back onto the mat.

Hearing that you taekwondo career basically ended at 25/26 and only after that you started BJJ is really reassuring to me having started at 27. I gave up boxing at 21 after doing it my whole life and quit once I realized I wasn't gonna be going to the Olympics too. Cheers mate.

Thanks guys. I was just roughed-up by an aggressive brown belt and am now nursing a nerve pinch in my neck. This helped me overcome the bummer of needing some time off.

35 year old who just started in February. Thanks for this. I've been really going through it the last couple of weeks, coming out of class in a dark place and have been contemplating quitting. It feels like ppl want to say stuff but are too scared, so instead they act passive aggressive.

I get you bro. Started at 39 about six months ago. Have had plenty of tough times and feel like quitting every week to be honest. There's days I do pretty good with rolling and days I forget everything and have new people tap me out. One of the hardest things I've ever done. My goal at minimum is to at least make it to blue belt so I'm just trying to endure. Hope it's going better for you now.

@@olleolausson yup I've gotten that treatment before. It'd gotten a little better after I competed in February I felt like that got me some more respect at the gym, even if I didn't get first place. I've learned and am still learning that BJJ is a marathon. Sometimes just keeping up with your classes and sticking with it helps your mind state as you get used to it and the gym gets used to you as you keep.coming and they can't get rid of you.

BJJ sounds difficult for an outsider. If they listen to all the "downsides" podcasts, most would never get started. They would ask themselves "why would I do this to myself?"

That’s a great point. I guess our content is generally aimed at those who already train, so it’s assumed they know the benefits of BJJ. We’ll look to do an episode aimed at those who havent started yet. Thanks!

Pertaining to the drugs for injuries: Stay away from that crap. Very few people have had injuries anything like mine and tho it sucked, I didn’t take any pain medication. That stuff wrecks you. Seen it so many times. Btw: in a motocross wreck I broke my left arm in 18 places, left femur, right wrist, 3 ribs, both ankles, back, collarbone, etc BJJ injuries are nothing compared to motocross. Just accept it and be stronger mentally than your body.
