Bully looks lighthearted outside, but very dark inside. And I'm not saying only the asylum, but many other things! This is the reason why the is game very, very special!!!

One thing that always used to unsettle me about the Asylum when I was a kid was the fact that the orderlys drug Jimmy after catching him. Just seems like it'd be kind of dangerous to drug a 15-year-old.

Very interesting video. The level used to creep me out a lot when I was younger. Looking back you're right, it's an unexpected serious moment inbetween the satire and childish humour the rest of the game has, there wasn't anything funny about it,it's just very creepy.

The reason Theo disappears is probably because Rockstar didn't want to bother programming him to be able to operate outside of the asylum.

This asylum was planned to be a disturbing and mysterious place before the game's release, with complete mysteries to be solved. But they had to remove a whole lot of things before releasing, that explains why we don't got enough to go on and solve the myths. They cutted out a lot of shit.

This place creeps me out back then, and still now. I also remember that there was a patient who walks abnormally fast. This game has some dark stuff, even an outgoing cheery person like Christy would talk about committing suicide sometimes. I also remember that in the biology classroom there was something in a jar that looks like a baby.

When I was a kid the asylum was my favorite area in the game because of how mysterious and different it was to the rest of the game, along with areas like the Carnival, Cemetery, and The Hole. I remember hearing some of the patients voices you played! Especially "WHYYYYYYY DID I DO IT? WHYYYYYYYYY" I think it may be because I turned off the in-game music at night while my parents slept, but I have no idea. I distinctly remember hearing that one. I played it on the ps2 at the time and had a disc my mom had found at a yard sale but I no longer have it though I wish I did! There were many instances during playing that version of me discovering weird glitches, seeing things that I knew felt unfinished (like the hole having a table to bet at, with a bell and etc. I knew at the time that it was strange to put so much detail into a small thing that doesn't do anything in the game. I remember when I was fuckin around and decided to shoot a spun gun at the c block door, and when I saw that there was an animation there I was so intrigued! I immediately had to explore. The game has never ceased to amaze me in some way, in all the years I've played it. When I go back to play Bully, it always feels like I'm visiting Bullworth, a childhood memory filled with old friends and fun. Also, I reached the ending of Consumo for the ps2. You literally have to just keep eating until it ends, if I remember correctly the limit is 3000 lbs. And it was VERY difficult. The last moments of the game are glitchy, as you basically have to stay in the very center of the screen and move extremely carefully. I know I won it lol so it has an end

I think the NPC thing is a result of Rockstar changing gears on how they used the NPCs. The NPCs in Bully are all unique and have their own characterization unlike most street NPCs of GTA and Red Dead titles that are randomly generated or often just reused character models over and over again. Somewhere in development they made the choice to have all the NPCs be unique, and that is when the Asylum had to be emptied. It was probably one of the last things worked on and they struggled to make it function without making tons of new peds. So they simply hoped no one would notice the duplicates and removed all the inmates and hoped people wouldn't look in the cells.

For some reason I have always kind of assumed that by "the watcher" he is referring to the orderlies. However, I have always wondered about the statue, it feels kind of odd to have a statue like that in an mental asylum. I actually don't agree with your last point about the x-rays. I believe it is more creepy that we don't know what that is about, making us think and Imagine what it could be. A great source of horror and creepiness comes from vagueness and the unknown that we can't explain.

That x-rays were probably taken from the patients who were being tortured. That's why we hear screams when we enter - those screams are from those patients howling in pain. But that's just a theory tho.

You forgot to mention the pig drawing in the lounge area, the picture of that Dr. Watts-looking character standing next to what looks like an alien, and that the inmate you mentioned is named Fenwick in the files. Great video nonetheless.

It would have been nice if there were side tasks related to the asylum after you get the orderly outfit. They could have had unique inmate characters inside their cells (who you can't actually touch which removes the beat up problem) who give you quests or you smuggle stuff in to them xD

Is anyone else noticing that the character created entirely for Happy Volts looks like Trevor Phillips from GTA V? I wonder if part of his creation was them revisiting that for scholarship edition, or going back for things to put in Bully 2...

I have PTSD relating to psych wards and mental institutions due to my experience of being admitted to them. Bully's take on a psychiatric hospital such as Happy Volts Asylum is interesting to see. While it has many cliche tropes, there's still a lot of realism to it.

The Watcher, the benches with the rounded sides, and the morgue, I'm starting to think this used to either be a funeral home or a church that got bought out by the Happy company

Nathan, I think Rockstar wants to show us that Jimmy's the crazy one, with no one being in the asylum and Jimmy being there when we go there.

Cell block c is so detailed it must have been a place for a mission at one point, until they scrapped it.

I know this is an old video but one time I was in happy vaults I was just roaming around I got caught but I didn’t actually get caught by them I was running past them all the sudden I heard this girls voice saying remember “if you aren’t apart of the happy vault you are in denial” or something like that lol

Another creepy thing, what the most people probably didn't noticed, is in Blue Skies. There is a place where sometimes a townie (most of the time it's Otto, idk why) spawns 1 second after i look in this direction, in front of a wall. Then he instantly just walks into the wall and disappears again that way. I know, Bully is full of weird and funny bugs. But that is just creepy. I mean, WTF!?

I found out in that X-ray room there’s a door that leads you to the back of the asylum, and I believe you can get stuck there, similar to the cell glitch. Passing out still leaves you there.

The first mission that I went into the asylum was the most intense

Jimmy can get a security outfit and you can go anywhere in the asylum.

There's also some strange audio clips in the electric room implying therapists and surgery as well as escaped or poor behaving patients.

Actually that's not an emergency room. If you look at the walls, you can see that it is actually a morgue. That only adds to the creepiness of the place even more.

Watching Theo patrol the lounge when you enter the Asylum without a mission is hinky AF. Scariest thing in Bully by a lot. He patrols in a triangular path that seriously looks inhuman.

"Lighthearted" is not the word I would use to describe a GTA game set in school where bullying can send you to an insane asylum in real life. It's full of evil English humour about sex, alcohol and violence. The orderlies were afraid if the watchers going on a "stampede" if the statue was damaged. I think they are supernatural beings. The jokes about cousin sex are so overexagerrated that you can't take parts of them literally, as if the person truly had no chin. I like that the two guards outside the asylum can be killed and then the yard is secure. No more guards or police spawn.

Anyone else ever experience this? One time when i was playing through, i had used the clothing cheat and wore the orderly uniform my first time there. I want to say it was after a cutscene that i started playing as an orderly, couldn't open doors to leave, couldn't attack, etc.
