In this video I do a dummy fit for the new liners and check how we are going for liner protrusion.
Here is a link to the Kangaroo Stew where I bought it and got it running.

Hi Lance. I kept talking back to you saying the correct numbers on the gauge. A very good video and we'll explained, not very easy to do when your watching what you do through a monitor. Keep up the good work Lance 👍👍👍👍👍👍

Cool, thanks, It is bloody hard looking at a 70mm screen 5 foot away but you do need to yell louder.

It's worth noting that some of these liners, probably been made in India may protrude because the liners are a bit tall, I have had this, if this is thecase you can machine them and not worry about the pistons, it's a real pain because, if you have to start having extra machining done the costs escalate.

Not had to machine any yet but you never know.

Hi Lance , it would also be possible to get a measurement using a good straight edge and feeler gauge accross the top of the liner for those of us who may not have the DTI tool.

Yes for sure just average it to allow for if the liner is not sitting dead straight.

Hi Lance, you say .002”-.008” sleeve standout but my book says .003”-.0055”. Was there a revision to the book at some point?

A little more is good. The figure is not as important as having them all even. A thousandth or two will not make much difference. The old gaskets were paper and would compress more.

Just loving this video series thanks Lance. I'm not a mechanic but a bit handy, I've only rebuilt a 12a Mazda rotary and a 161 from my HT Kingswood, both when I was a young fella. I just bought a Tea20 on a whim because it was in great working order, even brakes, and it was only $1600nz complete with towball linkage and a tray, why wouldn't ya?. Doesn't need any work that I know of but the more I watch, the more I want to pull it down for giggles 😉 I have a dial gauge handy so if I set that up on the block can I run that over the liners to get my depths successfully rather than make a gadget? I assume so but we know that assumption is a mum of something or other. Many thanks, Jason.

G Day Jason, Yes any dial gauge will do if you can guarantee a even surface. Sounds like fun.

Hi Lance, you mentioned that if your block and liners had both been machined down, you would need to check that your pistons didn't come up too high. But what could you do if that were the case; could you actually take some off the piston heads too?
@BundyBearsShed

Yes you can machine a little off the top if needed.

Hi Lance, thanks for another excellent video on fitting the liners. Unfortunately it came a few weeks late for me. Having fitted new liners, pistons, gaskets etc on my Ferguson 20 TED I discovered a few weeks later, before starting the tractor, that there was water in the oil. Having removed the head, liners etc I am convinced that the leak is under the head gasket. There is virtually no indent in the head gasket around the studs. Having studied your video I find the liners are too close to the level of the head of the block for comfort. I have already purchased Loctite 151 for the bottom of the liners as demonstrated by you. I am now wondering what my options are for the top. Will I fit an extra pair of gaskets under the liners to raise them or use the loctite 151 on top of the liners under the gasket also or perhaps both. I have to get it right this time. I think your videos are essential viewing for the amateur taking on this exercise which I embarked on during the Covid19 lock down. Your advice would be very much appreciated before I go any further with this project. Very pleased to see your wounds heal. Your incident brings home to all the hazards of cutting trees or branches with a chain saw. Keep up the good work especially on the Ferguson 20s Jim

G day Jim, Fitting two sets of liner seals is ok to do as long as you can keep the liners all of equal heights, no problem there at all.
