Miss, I hate to put this to you but I don't think you were told exactly what movie you're watching. This is blood, guts and carnage! The Predator or Yauja wants to go against the most dangerous game to earn honour and glory. Humans are called Pyode Amedha - the Soft Meat That Fights with Weapons in their language. Hunting humans is a privilege only few Yauja earn. This one is not just a full-blooded hunter, he has a full trophy cabinet of skulls at home of some of the most dangerous beings in this galaxy. Meaning he is an Elite Hunter. Strictly speaking, this should not have happened. Arnie got insanely lucky! Billy kicked the bird because it was eating the strung-up soldiers! Dillan is a CIA field operative. They are soldiers. This is the field. It is not a matter of out ranking. It's a matter that he did something stupid in enemy territory and Sgt Mac gave him a short sharp lesson in reality. The team is a special rescue group of the Green Berets. Category A badasses! And they are in Colombia. Wires under tension vibrate, which creates heat, making them visible to the Yauja's infrared vision. Jim and John Thomas came up with the idea of a hunter whose species evolved on Earth hundreds of thousands of years ago. Something like the dinosaurs if they had survived to evolve; half mammal, half reptile. Combining the best of both. They were taken off Earth as slaves by an alien insectoid species. They were hunted and used as gladiators for generations as amusement for their captors. Although, what they were actually doing was a pure Darwinian process, that created the first Predator, as only the strongest got to mate. This larger, more powerful, more aggressive Yauja led a rebellion that freed his people. They were irrevocably changed by their experiences at the hands of this alien species. This Yauja became the first king and his dictates became the laws of the Yauja people. They became hunters, first of their world's most dangerous prey and in so doing they repeated that Darwinian process. Only those who survived; the strongest, the most powerful, most aggressive Yauja got to mate. Their children continued those traits and took them out into the galaxy with their enslavers technology. For thousands of years, this process continued. The Yauja took their own evolution into their own hands and bent it to their will. The reason why they tearout spines isn't just a claim the trophy, it's in order to take the spinal fluid from the most dangerous species across the galaxy and return them to Yauja Prime to be studied. They want to take the best of every species and make it their own. Billy understands the Yauja, his ancestors encountered them. He knows the Yauja wants to fight the ultimate prey. To face someone when its own life is on the line. That's the glory part! Billy sacrificed himself so his friends had time to get away, knowing the Yauja couldn't refuse something this honourable. It's against their nature. This is also why the Yauja has marked Dutch. He has seen the honour, the respect and the skill. He understands that Dutch is the superior warrior and everything he is looking for. To take Dutch in combat, would be the highlight of this hunt. His glory would be great! He knows the females will go nuts for him when he returns! You keep asking, where did it come from? You saw the ship drop him off at the beginning of the movie! The Yauja Shift-Suit/camouflage is affected by water, yes. Once it's dry, it returns to full functionality. What you are witnessing at the end of this movie is tribal, powerful combat. Dutch is offering to go one-on-one to distract the Yauja, so it doesn't go after Anna. That level of honour and sacrifice is not something that can be refused Dutch is giving the Yauja everything he longed for on this hunt and the Yauja honours him by preparing his weapons as if he is going against the most dangerous being on this planet. Fun fact: the Yauja's self-destruct took out enough rainforest to cover a hundred city blocks and the jungle grew back thicker and fuller within 10 years. You need to watch Predator 2. It's based on the novel, Concrete Jungle.

26:05, Billy is cutting himself to deny the Predator the honor of drawing first blood on him. It may be at this moment that Billy finally realized what the Predator is and figured stop running like prey. Notice Billy wrapped the cord of his medicine bag around his knife. Perhaps that allowed him to get in one good lick before he died. I can't remember if the novel tie-in specified. Adhering to their twisted sense of honor, the Yautja admired Billy's bravery by making sure to remove and clean his trophy later.

Drawing first blood is an honor thing, but it's also a huge confidence boost for the person who draws first blood. Not to mention a big morality debuff to the person who gets injured. By starting the fight out with a self-inflicted scratch, you can sidestep losing the advantage in a fight.

Why do people talk about peoples' height like it's an achievement? It's more of a handicap to be above average height. It gives no advantages, only lots of disadvantages. Especially freakishly tall people: only a handful can use it as a way to make some money in the movies (no more than talented normal-height people can though) or back in the day in the circus.

This movie could have been called "The Governors" because both Jesse Ventura and the Schwanzenegger became governors of their respective states: Minnesota and California. The second Pedator movie does answer some, but not all, of your questions. And it has some fun twists. Definitely recommended if you enjoyed this one. It's cool that you drew some parallels between Predator and Alien. Consider watching Alien vs. Predator (aka AVP). It's not the greatest movie in the world, but it does develop both stories in interesting ways.

That's why Carl Weathers once (jokingly) announced his candidacy for governor of his home state of Louisiana, because as it stands now, "Predator" and "The Running Man" are tied for most future governors in a movie, both with Schwarzenegger and Ventura. But if Weathers had become Governor of Louisiana, it would have put "Predator" on top. He was joking about running, of course, but I think he should have done it.

AVP 2 the fps game on PC in the early 2000's was great though, although short lived compared with Halo and Unreal. It was so much fun playing as Predators with their various weapons, cloak, and physical skills, and as a variety of Aliens, and of course the humans(Marines and Corporates) too... host's would call a ban on the SG(Smart Gun) because it kind of ruined things. Knife fights were fun tho. Sadly, the servers went down and no more online support after about 2007 or so....still fun in single player to some extent, despite the dated graphics by today's standards. They need to make a new version. The diversity of gameplay depending on race(alien, predator, and human) really made AVP 2 a good game.

26:05 Billy cuts himself as a taunt. Denying his enemy the honor of drawing his blood. 26:28 kicked, not shot. As "Dutch" observed earlier, the Predator did not shoot her because she was unarmed. She doesn't look like she really has much, if any, experience with military rifles, and the Pred already killed an experienced team one by one. She would only be redesignated as a target if she fired a gun, and die as well.

I always say that the big difference is Arnold deferred to others in terms of film making. He didn't know Jack about screenplays or cinematography or the auteur theory. All he knew is if he had any say he wanted to work with quality people and let them do their jobs. Sly came to the biz with bigger ambitions. He wanted to act, write and direct. When you look at his filmography you see Sly when he's not directing himself he's often working with journeymen types. Rarely did he team up with any director with a following, especially in his prime years. Arnold on the other hand when you think of his prime he's just usually paired with a director with a strong vision or sense of style that understood exactly how to use Arnold best or get him to bring his best performances out of him. Milius, Cameron, Hill, Verhoveen... Arnold in his prime worked with a murderer's row of directorial talent. Sly? Not so much. And it's why, now decades later we see that Stallone, while still iconic and with characters like Rocky and Rambo under his belt, his truly stand the test of time entries into the pop culture canon pale next to Arnold's. The quality of Arnold's films began to wane when he started just showing up for the paycheck and didn't fuss about who was at the helm.

Stallone is weak. Outside the Rocky movies, almost everything he does is humorless power fantasy. I love that Arnold can take roles where he doesn’t look good all the time, but stumbles, fails or is made fun of throughout the story.
@miguelvelez7221
@miguelvelez7221 8 ай бұрын
@@maxducoudray For whatever reason, his personality, his input on set, Arnold's films do have self aware elements. Just think of how he has a catch phrase across different films with "I'll be back". They parodied it in LAST ACTION HERO. Stallone has "Yo Adrian" but that's for one character. That said I think Sly's best work is his earliest on the scene. ROCKY, FIRST BLOOD and the less well known NIGHTHAWKS. Sly shows A LOT of range and is doing character work for real. None of those characters look, act or speak the same. I think in terms of raw acting ability Sly outclasses Arnold. The ending scene of FIRST BLOOD is a tour de force. Like Rocky in the third film Stallone got too comfortable, he wasn't the hungry newcomer anymore. Once he is established the effort is either not there or it's put into the oddest projects. When he was coasting you would get a lazy Rambo sequel or TANGO AND CASH. When he was oddly passionate you'd get COBRA or OVER THE TOP. I think another thing that hurts Stallone's output was he eschewed anything high concept or Scifi or fantasy for the most part. Sly has almost nothing like CONAN THE BARBARIAN, TOTAL RECALL or THE TERMINATOR in his body of work. The closest are JUDGE DREDD and DEMOLITION MAN. And that's on Sly himself because he really chose his projects poorly for a long stretch. I think some films Arnold did could have easily started Sly. Sly could have done either PREDATOR or TOTAL RECALL easily in his prime. But just as SciFi and Fantasy was taking off Sly basically rarely if ever dipped his toe into those kinds of movies.

This film has the distinction of having three politicians in the cast. Arnold Schwarzenegger went on to become governor of California (2003-2011). Jesse Ventura went on to become governor of Minnesota (1999-2003). Sonny Landham ran for governor of Kentucky but was defeated in the Republican primary. Sonny then ran for the Kentucky state House and was defeated. Sonny then ran for US Senate of Kentucky and was defeated.

One element of this movie that may not be obvious in 2023 is that it came out at a time when there were tons of generic action movies. Billy is a Native American tracker, who can read the ground like a book. Again you see Arnie’s real-life good friend Sven, who kills one of the hostages, then kills him with “knock knock”. Blasting away with every gun into the jungle were often done by troops after being ambushed, just hoping you would hit something or at least make the enemy keep their heads down or withdraw. Names in this film like ‘Jim Hopper’ would appear in the TV series ‘Stranger Things’ as a tribute to how popular this film is. Metal and other man-made objects would stand out from the jungle environment in the Predator’s infra-red visions. Mac died with a hole through his head. The Predator would not blow up a skull and be denied a trophy. Bunnytail! Finally someone said it! “Who’s camouflaged now, M………r!” With the situation reversed, the ambushed Predator fires blindly at the jungle hoping to hit something! Actor Kevin Peter Hall who was in the Predator suit was also the helicopter pilot who rescued Arnold. He played Harry the Bigfoot in the film and series ‘Harry and the Hendersons’. All your questions will be answered if you continue with the sequels.

Also, Jean-Claude Van Damme was the original suit actor for the 1st design of the Predator, with some of his shots being used for the reference passes for the Cloaking fx, but they fired him after the redesign because JCVD was difficult to work with and was also too short for the new look Predator, so they got someone else in who better suited the size they wanted

When they had issues, Arnold recommended they go to Stan Winston. Stan didn’t really know what to do, but he remembered some Rastafarian artwork in JoelSilver’s office. He was on a plane to Japan sketching dreadlocks and quills. James Cameron was sitting next to him and he started making suggestions like, “oh I always liked creatures with mandibles” and other various things along the way. This was the first Arnold film I saw and I was very surprised at the twist and progression of the plot. I'm not into dumb action movies and pointless shootouts and explosions, but this movie wasn't heavy-handed, it just got more and more exciting. And the alien had a fascinating mask. When it takes off its helmet and roars - that's one of the highlights for me.

You asked so nicely for people to leave comments, so I'll share this: The first time I saw this movie I was about 10 years old and at a birthday party. Apparently I was the wuss of my friend group, I spent a good portion of it covering my eyes because the idea of an invisible monster was terrifying. After it ended I had to walk home in the dark (relatively normal; it was a small, safe town and not a long way) but as soon as I stepped outside I started imagining those glowing eyes in the trees. I ran my ass home as fast as I could, lol. I waited until I was a more appropriate age before I watched it again and could appreciate how good it is.

Special Operation teams train an insane amount so they can predict each other's moves and preferences this is key to their effectiveness; Dillon (Apollo Creed) has been running a desk so long he is out of practice throwing off their routines. These types of teams have and respect rank but in field and off they are brothers first rank second. They need to talk and act fast, so ideas need to be conveyed quickly to preserve the mission effectiveness and safety of team members. Jesse Venture the "sexual tyrannosaurus" who operates "old painless", was a Navy Seal in real life who served in Vietnam war.

It's a macho action movie that turns into a slasher film halfway through, but with action heroes instead of campers. The thing is the Predator's honor is very self-serving. It's hunter's honor - they want a good game, a 'fair fight'... but they don't actually expect to lose. Just like lion hunters don't really expect the lion to get away or be hurt.

This for me is underrated for the performance Arnold gives, and so much of it purely physical as the cast gets whittled down and there's less need for dialogue. By the final act we are almost in a silent film and Arnold gives his all letting us know everything going on inside of Dutch's mind. The atmosphere and the way they light Arnold to give focus to the whites of his eyes works with Arnold's movement and reactions to make for pure film language telling us a story we are invested in. There's far more to recommend with this film beyond just appreciation for supposed 80's cheese I think.

Whether any of that sounds like an improvement is besides the point. Soderbergh wanted to highlight Spielberg's mastery of film language, blocking and telling a story with visuals. I think PREDATOR getting a similar treatment would be interesting. McTiernen's film could also be stripped of dialogue and its iconic score and you would still be into the story being told just from the visuals.

@@NeilEvans-xq8ik It's not about intelligence per se. The defining value is how you use your mind and therefore how oriented to reality you are. Some thinkers in history will make a big deal about work, labour and "muscle" as the driving force behind human survival, progress and flourishing (Marxism for instance). But what is on-show in the film, is the obvious physical deficit that any human would have against a Predator, combined with a specific human that defeats it using his thinking rather than his physical ability. Dutch is trusted by his men, for a reason. He is the leader of an elite army rescue unit, for a reason. He works out how they are being hunted and how he can kill the thing that is trying to kill him. Throughout the whole film he is the most rational human there. It's not until the very end that the Predator realizes he's not hunting just another "dumb animal" by his standards.

Fun fact: Jesse Ventura(big guy with the minigun) named his autobiography "I ain't got time to bleed", was also former governor of Minnesota.(funny because Arnie was also gov of California). But I won't get into politics here. That interracial bro fist handshake in the beginning has aged well, imo...it is so iconic, and a symbol of unity, and brotherly love! The Predator code of honor and cockiness in wanting a worthy opponent is part of what makes them so cool, but weak compared with Aliens, who have no such concept, and only care about breeding and spreading their insect-like race. So many clever things in this movie, like disguising the heat signature with mud. If you missed the UFO landing in the beginning, it starts off like any regular commando type movie, then your mind gets blown when you discover there's an alien creature hunting humans. 10/10 one of the best movies, and without the whole romance or womanizing of the only female character. Only kill species that pose a threat or challenge, which ranges from deadly predators to armed warriors. Killing unarmed civilians, children, or pregnant individuals are deemed as acts of cowardice and are punishable by death or exile from their clan. Their hunts are recorded by their helmets, which are later played back to their elders to judge if they are worthy to rise in ranks.

Ventura's multibarrel ubergun is a Minigun (ironically, since its not mimi). Weapons like that seem unlikely to be human-carried in general, they are extremely heavy, go through lots of ammo real fast, and need a battery to power the motors that operate it. Kind of tough to carry all that through the jungle, but that's pretty much the core of Jesse Ventura's character. Ventura was a pro wrestler for a long while, and would become Governor of Minnesota as an Independent. Miniguns are usually mounted on a boat or chopper. Larger examples are mounted in aircraft, or as is the case with the A-10, the aircraft is mounted to the weapon. The Amazon is in South America, primarily Brazil. This is supposed to take place in Guatemala, so the river is likely the Motogua. Apollo's character is CIA, while Ahnold's team is paramilitary mercenaries, not active duty, and answer in no way whatever to the CIA.

The mini in minigun is a reference to the fact that is a much smaller but almost identical copy to the M61 Vulcan. The mini used 7.62mm rifle shells whereas the Vulcan was classified as a 20mm Autocannon which was considered a artillery shell And a “gun” was typically only used to refer to a fixed or partially mobile artillery, autocannon, or machine gun placement. Pistols, Rifles, and sub machine guns are firearms, not guns. The M134 minigun was initially manageable at a mere 84 lbs, unloaded. Ammo was about 150 shells to a pound, firing up to 600 a second. The M61 Vulcan was 248 lbs and required external hydraulic feeds. Ammo was 3-4 shells per pound, and also fired around 600 per second.

"...why'd he kick the bird..." Because it was eating the dead people, and he was upset about that. "...I know you like working alone..." It's not that. Giving away their position is a threat to _all_ of them. If the enemy detects where they are because he made a stupid mistake like that, they could attack their small group with larger numbers, negating the _very needed_ advantage of surprise for a smaller force to deal with a larger one. In other words, what he's telling them is that if he threatens the safety of _all_ of them again, out here in the jungle where 'chain of command' is a mere nicety and _survival_ is what matters more, he'll kill the guy rather than letting him risk _all_ their lives with his incompetence. Remember that they were forced by higher-ups to take him with them. Now, Dillon has the option of just not following and hanging back until the thing is done, then he won't be giving their position away, but if Dillion _chooses_ to continue, he can't be allowed to threaten them all just because he wants to be there. You talk about a 'superior officer', but out there, on the battlefield, rank doesn't matter. That's what this shows. Dillion was in charge back at base camp because rules and regulations and so on mattered more than skills, but out in the jungle, when it's do it right or die, rank means _nothing._ This shows up later as well with saying Anna is Dillon's baggage, if they fall behind they're on their own. "...where is the Amazon even located..." South America. However they're not _in_ the Amazon. They're in a rainforest (believe it or not, there's more than one). This one is supposedly taking place in Guatemala in Central America. It was filmed in a tropical jungle in Mexico. "...automatic machine gun..." A minigun. And no one can use it like that. No one _human,_ anyway. You _can,_ if you are strong, hold it and fire in roughly a direction you would like, but only in _extremely_ short bursts. Each bullet fired is like getting hit with a three pound bean-bag. The minigun usually fires 3000 rounds per minute, or 50 per second. Even a full second on auto-fire would be like a 100 pound person jumping into you (reduced some because it's not all at once). When those guns are used in real life, they're almost always on a tripod, and that tripod has _hundreds_ of pounds of sandbags holding it down, _or_ it's _bolted_ to a something like a truck or helicopter or wall... and more often the sandbags because, let's face it, 100 pounds jumping into the side of a vehicle is _going_ to send it off course. If you want to see someone fire one for about half a second and get _shoved_ six inches or so backwards, sliding along the ground, and ending up twisting some, you can watch that here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/fpt2msiB1a2qh3U.html "...how you gonna look nonchalantly behind you at an explosion..." Experience. Lots and _lots_ of experience. After it's happened a few dozen times to you, you get to the point that you recognize which explosions behind you are a _threat_ and which ones you can ignore. ... The trick is surviving long enough to _get_ that experience. "...I don't know why I wasn't expecting this level of violence in an Arnold movie..." Maybe you watched Twins? Or Jingle All the Way? "...this guy and his pussy jokes... I wanna hear another one..." Ask and ye shall receive: What do the Mafia and a pussy have in common? One slip of the tongue, and you're in deep shit. What do you call a Roman soldier with a smile on his face and a piece of hair between his two front teeth? A Glad-he-ate-her. What do you call an Oscar winning film about a vagina? Lawrence Of A Labia. Boy: "Want to hear a joke about my dick? Never mind, its too long." Girl: "Wanna hear a joke about my pussy? Never mind, you won't get it." No Vagina Jokes. Those aren't funny. PERIOD. No Period Jokes either. Women might ovary act. One day on the farm, a little boy kicks a cow. His mama says if you kick the cow you get no milk. The next day the boy kicks the pig. His mama says if you kick the pig you get crappy bacon. The day after he kicks the chicken. His mama says if you kick the chicken you get no eggs. His daddy walks through the door and kicks the cat. The little boy says to his mam: "Should I tell him or do you want to?" A girl came to her mom and said "Mommy! I've got 5 dollars!" Her mom said "Where from?" "Tommy from down the road he dared me to do a cartwheel," she replied. "Dear that boy is just trying to see your panties!" her mom told her. The next day the girl comes to her mom and says "Mommy I've got 10 dollars!" Exasperated, her mom says, "I told you don't trust that boy!" The girl responds, "NO mommy! I tricked him! I didn't wear panties today!" Two women are standing on the bridge and one says to the other, "You know I want to pee off the bridge like men do." So she goes to the side of the bridge and squats over the water and pulls down her pants and says "You see that canoe down there, I'm going to pee on that canoe!" And the other woman says, "That's not a canoe, that's your reflection." "...I just wanna know how they move so quietly..." It's a lot easier when the camera isn't set to pick up sounds. ... ... In a more realistic setting, practice. "...so it hunts for sport and for fun..." Remember Anna saying that this thing, which has visited before, is called "The Demon That Makes Trophies of Man". Trophy hunters kill for sport and fun. Although (not mentioned in this movie, but in comics and maybe one movie), the species doesn't do this _just_ for fun. It's also a sort of 'coming of age' test. You have to hunt something _dangerous,_ using skill and tech to win. The more dangerous the prey you hunt, the more honor you get in succeeding. This is what leads to the movie 'Alien vs Predator' movie. "...you just wanna fight him with a knife..." Remember what I said above about honor? Same sort of idea here. Billy knows he can't win. He knows that running as he did won't work. So he's choosing to end his life honorably by facing it head on with as traditional a weapon as he has available (likely he'd have preferred a spear, but didn't have one on hand). The exact symbology of all of it... is most likely a mishmash of vaguely Native American things, without being really connected to any one of them (though I admit this is a guess on my part). "...why did he kick the gun out of her hand..." Remember earlier? "It didn't kill you because you weren't armed." He saved her life by _stopping_ her from _becoming_ armed. At no point during this did the Predator see her with a weapon. She is, thus, harmless. The Predator killed the one _injured_ soldier who _had been_ armed for the same reason a responsible hunter of dangerous prey (like hippos or lions or whatever) will track and put down any wounded animal, it's cruel to leave them. ... This makes less sense in their specific case, but it follows the same sort of idea. You don't leave wounded animals out there to suffer. Finish them off, even if they're no longer dangerous due to their injuries. But at _this_ point Anna can get away because the Predator doesn't _care_ about her. You see this same sort of 'hunter ethic' in the second movie, too, where the Predator refuses to kill a potential prey for reasons that every hunter would agree with (but not one that came up here). I don't wanna spoil it, just in case you choose to watch. "...it just kinda singed his shoulder..." It hit his _weapon_ instead of _him._ As such the weapon was destroyed (which is why he didn't try to find it), but he was mostly okay. "...does the mud help with the heat sensor, too..." It would... for about 30 seconds. Then your body heat would warm it up, and... no. But then, again in comics and so on, they're not using 'heat vision' exactly, it's something else. "...where did he come from..." In the opening moments of the movie, you see him get dropped off by a larger ship in space. So... yes, he's an alien. "...I feel like that thing is smarter than to walk into an obvious trap like this..." It fell for the _first_ trap with the net. It's really more about being overconfident. It likely figures there's just one left, and as far as it knows that one isn't even armed anymore, just injured. It may be expecting something closer to Billy's resignation and death. Plus... it's relying on its camouflage and armor to protect it. "...why'd he drop him..." Honor. Dutch is out of weapons, shown he's capable. Sure, the Predator could win _now,_ that's _easy._ But that's not a _fight_ anymore. That's Dutch running out of weapons. No, no, no. _Clearly_ this has to come down to something else, so that he can go back and admit, "Yeah, he got me with a few lucky shots, but then he ran out of weapons. So instead of shooting him, I took him down with my bare hands!" Much better story. "...I don't understand this thing's motive..." Yeah, neither do I. I mean... I use the word 'honor', but... honor makes no sense to me. I think it's kinda dumb. "...what you want me to watch next..." I'd recommend Spaceballs... because in order to watch it, you have to have seen a number of other movies which are _also_ awesome, and if you haven't, they'd be good for reacting to as well. Those movies are: Planet of the Apes (1958), The Wizard of Oz (1939), Alien (which you've seen), Raiders of the Lost Ark (or just see a poster of it), Star Trek the Original Series (which you've seen), and Star Wars: Return of the Jedi (though if you haven't seen 'A New Hope' and 'The Empire Strikes Back', you should watch those first, especially if you can get your hands on the de-specialized editions where they don't have the 'improvement' made to make it more in line with the prequel trilogy). Great reaction! Have a nice day!

Prey is also excellent (For me at least, second only to this original.) Predator is such a great subversion given how it starts and other 80s action flicks where the meat heads would just tear any threat up on screen. Here, all their strength and weapons are virtually useless, the Predator so far surpasses them that for the bulk of the time its just making sport of them. Its only through a mixture of luck and Dutchs cunning that the Predator is finally brought down. (Im pretty sure this was all very deliberate as well, even the subplot turns the whole action hero thing on its head.)

I agree. Very different tone, but a fantastic film and a genius reimagining of the predator storyline

A Predator, a species FAR more advanced than humans, wipes out an entire modern day elite special forces unit, but a 90 pound sTrOnG wOmAn from the 1800s with sticks and stones can handle this one no problem because "they don't think she can" You would like that fuckin trash

Yeah, and everything about it was totally unexpected to me. I guess I had this idea of what I thought it would be like and it was completely different, which left me pretty bewildered throughout the movie. Really great stuff!

For the next Arnold movie check out his breakthrough movie that put him on the map .." Conan The Barbarian " ( 1982 ).. best soundtrack/ score.. real stunts and fight choreography..great cinematography..best narrator ..even with flaws..it's good..the best sword and sorcery movie fantasy in my opinion..because of the realistic feel ..all those others are fun only none have a more effort put into them to consistently have the realism ..no cgi everywhere..no claymation ..more sword than sorcery

Bunny, this was my favorite Predator movie until Hulu made a prequel based in Saskatchewan during pioneering era. I can definitely recommend skipping the others as they were way lower budget and super archaic (although there's an Easter egg at the end that refers to the 2nd or 3rd one regarding a musket)

You need to re-watch this after you react to "Prey." "Prey" turns a number of "Billy's" cryptic lines into really cool dialogue. Once you watch "Prey," everything "Billy" does and says makes complete sense.

This is supposed to take place in Central America, during the Cold War. Dillion is supposed to be CIA. Soldiers and marines often dislike the CIA. The intelligence agencies provide them with information, but that information is often incomplete or they have agendas of their own that they don't make regular soldiers aware of. This tends to breed distrust and animosity. In the alien's society, rank and prestige is based on how well one does in the hunt. The tougher and more dangerous the prey a hunter manages to take down, the higher their standing in society. That means they spend a great deal of time traveling around the galaxy looking for the toughest prey possible.
