Hello Dr. B. My name is Monica Mendez. I am currently studying to get my BA in Psychology, then later my Master or Phd degree to focus on mental health and substance abuse and treatment. The question I have, and not for medical advice, but for my own notes, do you incorporate the butrans patch in place of any of the pill form combinations?

I am definitely looked at differently the minute anyone finds out I am on suboxone. My quality of life is 100 times better. Have kept the same job for years now, and I never miss days. I have even started working out and taking better care of my body. But with all those changes and positive outcomes I am still told that I am using and not clean. To be considered clean you have to be off all substances, period. It really upsets me that People look down at me because of it.

This story seems so similar to mine. I suffer from chronic pain, anxiety, and hypertension. I was put on Tramadol ten years ago, being told that I would not become dependent. Now I’m on the highest dose and have had several procedures on my back with no luck, and increased pain. And yes, my quality of life has not been good. I truly have hope now with my doctor prescribing buprenorphine. Thank you for your empathy and encouragement.

I am writing this 3 years after the video was posted, so you probably won't ever read it but here goes anyway. (A little aside-note first, it's weird that I have only just come across this particular video,as I have been following you for a long time already, but that's by the by; KZfaq doesn't always "notify" even if it's supposed to). Dr B, I am a big fan of your work, you really are a very special, good person and I think you are great. I wish I had the money just to visit California and find you, JUST TO SHAKE YOUR HAND! I have often said in "the comments" that I wished that I had had a Doctor like you, back in the UK when I was a Junkie for many, many years and then again more recently when I came to France where my ex-wife comes from, where i did a Cold Turkey severage off the Heroin, Methadone and Benzos all at the same time. Our reasoning was that once I had got over the initial acute withdrawal symptoms (which went on and on and on for SO LONG, I swear I didn't sleep for more than half an hour in THREE months!) , being away from big towns and not being streetwise in a foreign country, I probably would not bé able to get my hands on any Heroin. But instead I ended up with a Morphine habit, and I can honestly say , i would much prefer to have just had Heroin ! Anyway the Circus continued for many years until i had lost everything. Eventually I found the help I needed in staying off it, too late for my marriage, but just in time to repair the relationship with my children.... I just wish I had had a Doctor like you, who understands perfectly and seems to have compassion, which is very important and lacking in many "Doctors". I am waffling now, there are so many things i want to say, but I will cut it short and just say, Dr B, you are a wonderfull person and the World (not just the Junkies and other addicts) needs people like YOU. Thankyou Dr B, I wish you all the best, I appreciate you very , very much. 🌞

So happy I found your channel. Started at 24mg about three years ago with no plan from my Dr. for tapering. I was able to bring myself down to 2mg/day on my own. I've been able to go a little over a week at cutting that last 2mg in half but always go back on account of my mental state. I hope I'm able to come off this medication. My husband and I are seeing a fertility Dr. trying to get pregnant and we haven't been successful. I always wonder if this medication has anything to do with that AND if I ever get pregnant 🙏🏼 I'd like to be medication free. If anyone has any advice, I'd appreciate it. Great channel. I I'm so glad that I found you! You're answering a lot of questions I've been looking for answers to for years. I was in a suboxone treatment program for several years now and I tried to get off of them but I have also deteriorating disc and joint disease I've had three different types of surgeries two hip replacements I am had the cervical procedure with plates and screw assembly and I suffering a lot of pain not just there but in my feet and everything else and Suboxone is a wonderful pain management tool but they still want to keep me on in the treatment program where I have to do a urine every month and all this time I've only shown one dirty urine. And that was for amphetamine but I cleaned it up. But I started with a doctor who started me on tramadol that was supposed to be non addictive and work like percocet and everything else well 20 years later I was heavily addicted 60 pills a day for years and suboxis will got me off I don't wish to ever go back that way but when I try to get off the Suboxone I was definitely sick I'm allowed two pills a day but I try to stick to one I continue working on what I do I am 5 59-year-old male and like I said my surgery is include two hip replacements and a cervical reconstruction replacement assembly this can joint disease arthritis and I live in a high stress environment as a chef. But one thing I would like to add doctor that you don't see with patience is here that I see in Philadelphia is heroin patients selling their Suboxone for to get high neither heroin or fentanyl. One thing I would like to add if you don't want to do narcotics get on the Suboxone and if your doctor doesn't offer you to type of advice this doctor does you should run I do now know that I am addicted to another medicine but I don't overtake it I'm allowed two pills a day like I said I only take one maybe one every other day. But I want it off the medication to pain medication I don't want to be dependent on any type of pain medication and I've had all kinds of medication I've been on fentanyl patches I've been on oxy 20 30 or 50 for whatever they are and the worst was the oxy ir-5s cuz you would just open them up and put them on your tongue you would be nice and high but nothing satisfy me more than tramadol 50 mg and everybody I know who is on tramadol this time is gone addicted to and can't get by just on one pill a day they have to have it and now it's gabapentin they tried to ram that down my throat years ago and I couldn't take it. The one time I took it if they prescribed it at 600 mg three times a day for first time user and I took the two tablets and I almost tore my daughter's head off came quite agitated and it didn't do nothing about it did not relieve the pain for me at all now I never touch the stuff gabapentin is one medication I will not mess with. The first pill I took the one that got me hooked I was 32 years old taking my first pain pill his Percocet and I still remember that day and I chased that dragon for almost 30 years and I never got the same high again and I don't ever get it again.

I am a recovering opiate / opioid user. I retired from a major law enforcement agency in California were I served the motoring public from 1981 thru 2002. After relocating to the state of Arizona in 2006, I started a complete dental reconstruction procedure. I had over 600 needle sticks to my gums for root canals and post / crown placements. I was prescribed Oxycodone for the pain and after 6 months, became addicted to the medication. While residing in Arizona in 2017, I ran out of the Oxy meds and was experiencing severe gum pain. I was introduced to black tar, foil and a straw. The pain was controlled almost immediately. I continued to use black tar until I saw my dentist the following week. After refilling the Oxycodone script, I noticed that the ability to control gum pain was not as effective as the black tar. Hence, I became addicted to black tar until 2018 when I went into a 38 day treatment facility. I was given Subutex, starting out at 8 mg twice a day for 38 days. After completing a 10 week IOP, my Physician Assistant started a tapering program. Today, June 19, 2022, I am prescribed a 2 mg tablet of Subutex twice a day. I have tried to taper to 2 mg a day, but experience withdrawal symptoms 12 to 14 hours after taking the 2 mg tablet. Will I forever be on a 4 mg daily dose of Subutex? Thanks.

I don't see why suboxone would be prescribed for chronic pain when transdermal buprenorphine patches are available. They're far less abusable and equally as effective if the appropriate strength patch is used. Less social stigma too.

Hi dr. B. I'm 66 years old. I was addicted various pain medications. 3 years ago I got a prescription for 20 mg Suboxone film form with little or no instructions. I managed to reduce my dosage to 1/32 of one 20 mg, dose. A very tiny amount, but I'm having difficulty getting off of this tiny amount. My withdrawals are restless legs when I'm in bed and it prevents me from going to sleep. Any advice?

I stopped on 2mg and I knew I wasnt going to feel well. So I had restless arms and legs for over a week no sleep for a week. Just the odd hour here or there. Felt sick in the stomach with cramps and hot flushes and cold sweats but it wasnt as bad as when I was smoking 1 grams of heroin a day. But being an addict the moment I felt well again I went out and scored some gear. Nearly 20 years later I'm back on methadone for the 3rd time as I cant do subutext anymore. I always have precipitated withdrawals. From them.

This drug is way more powerful than given credit! I wish i would of known this because this drug less is more because it binds so tightly and for so long a very small amount will cover most of the receptors! I'm down to 2mg a day from 8-16mg a day for years. If i would of known this I would of used 4-8mg in the beginning and after a month down to 2-4mg amd then down to 2mg. At 2mgs i feel good and 4mg now that Im at a lower dose I actually feel the 4mg compared to last year I'd take 16mg amd not feel it at all just no withdrawals!

Less is more with this. I wish I would of started low, kept it low and tapered off of it for a total of maybe 2-3 months instead of years

This is just my experience and not advice but in my opinion people are taking more of this than necessary and staying on it way longer than it was intended for

A great thing is that much less likely to ever overdose on Buphrenorphine. They could help W. VA emergency rooms by flooding the streets with it. Stops craving, reduces pain (trigeminal nerve, ow! had a baseball sized meningioma hacked out of my temple, crainotomy cut that nerve) and vy gentle high, do 60 min yoga am, meditate twice a day, ride my bike, 3 qts warm water, flax seed in my cereal key to stay regular. I skip dose 4 days ea. month, to improve effectiveness, sometimes more. Costs 30 dollars a month. If I want to get high, can crush and snort 2ml, coconut oil before and after, to protect sinuses. Never exceed 2000 cal diet, avoid meat. All well. My candy lady doctor talked me into it, saved my life (she had prescribed 400 oxy 20 ir before that, (me begging) she ended up losing her license, very sweet person, met her in burning man parking lot 2009)

Doctor I think you generally a good doc that cares ...I'm sorry to say you don't have many choices when getting someone off drugs and keeping them off ....I see why you don't like kratom ...I see you loosing patients .....do you tell your people that there never getting off the subs.and how hard it will be to get off and how long it will take to get off ...I'm sure you don't there is plenty of data that shows the long term effects of subs .....I wish you had more choices but don't talk about how bad kratom is and how good your subs are with 1 case study ......I bet he still on subs ....get him to cut down on them and see if you see a changed person ...or don't give him subs for 3 days and see if you can see changed person lol you know ...I know you know but I guess you would not have job if it wasn't for subs.....

Hi Dr.B I’m on Suboxone for Kratom use. I was wondering what you think about that. The kratom was killing me. I was on very high dose, and Suboxone has given me the opportunity to get my life back in order. I think it would be great for you to do a video on this. Kratom is very popular now, and it’s destroys ppl in the end. It needs more attention!

I have been suffering from sciatica for ten years, am a 66 year old recovering addict that "had" 24 years of clean time (I took more oxycodone than prescribed for only pain until 4 months ago), and have been on insufficient levels of buprenorphine/naloxon 8mg generic Dr Reddy strips for six months because the doctor will not go to even 24 mg (I'm prescribed 16mg/daily) because he doesn't allow patients to go higher than 16mg/day. I find that taking 16mg in the early morning and 16 in the early afternoon works best for my spinal stenosis/arthritis/sciatica pain and cannot find a doctor who agrees and accepts new patients on Medicare insurance in my area of SC. My primary care doc has never prescribed suboxone and won't for me, I saw here yesterday and asked. This video offers me hope, but I just need to find the "right doctor" and the pain, at times, makes me want to overdose with something else to end my good life because of pain levels every single afternoon and evening day from 6-10/10. Perhaps we should talk.
