It burns itself into place basically. It will be less prone to coming off before schedule. Shoes come off more easily than you’d think, especially if you have horses that aren’t stabled.

Yeah it smells like when you burn hair.

I don’t think they get upset with the sound. The smell I don’t know, I have never actually witnessed it done to a horse for the first time. I can only extrapolate. Horses are flight animals and they tend to spook more at things they see (even small mounds of sand in the arena, believe it or not) or sharp and sudden noises. Smells don’t tend to spook them.
